Manchester United vs Everton

Wayne Rooney is reportedly desperate to play against his old club in the FA Cup semi-final tomorrow but he won't get the chance, not least because he's nursing a minor injury at the moment.

"When I pick my team, no matter what it is there will be critics voicing a concern about me not playing my strongest team," Fergie admitted.

"Not everyone agrees with changes. There are some supporters who want me to play my best team every game.

"That is impossible. If you look at Wednesday`s game you are off your head to think I could play the same team again."

Well, nothing surprising. There will be the usual voices about United's perceived lack of respect shown towards the FA Cup but then if we win there will be moans that the Big Four are dominating the cup... so doesn't matter.

Reports say that Van der Sar, Berbatov, Rooney, Ronaldo, Ferdinand and Anderson are all expected to miss the game... It will be an interesting line-up I expect. Something like this:

Foster - Brown (oh yes, he's set to return), Evans, Vidic, O'Shea - Park, Scholes, Gibson, Nani - Tevez, Welbeck or Macheda

Looks fun, doesn't it?

If its too weak i fear we'll go out, and that will do no good for our confidence that is so vital for us now. lets build on the porto win make sure we get through tomorrow and get our level back.
I know a few need a rest but...

I'm expecting and hoping for a strong team. Momentum plays a huge part in the final weeks and I don't think resting all the players and going out will help all that much in the long.

They will be changes, but I'm not expecting wholesale changes.

Foster
O Shea Vidic Ferdinand Evra
Nani Scholes Fletcher Park
Tevez Rooney

Subs: Kuzscsak, Fabio, Evans, Macheda, Welbeck, Anderson, Ronaldo

Berbatov has been well rested with his injury. He needs games to regain his sharpness.

Rooney, Vidic, Evra, and Carrick are likely in need of a break.

Then it is only a game away from a show piece final at Wembley, and that may sway SAF to play a near full team. We can never second guess SAF.

I hope Ronnie gets another goal or two, United could really use an in form Ronaldo for the rest of the season things will turn United's way if they do.

I think we'll see our full strength cup team out there (ie Tevez>Berba, Foster>VDS, Nani starts)

Sir Alex Ferguson is determined to keep Manchester United's trophy trail on course at Wembley on Sunday afternoon when his team meets Everton in The FA Cup Semi-FInal.

Current World, European and Premier League champions United have already lifted the League Cup at Wembley this year, but Ferguson wants to add to the season's trophy haul.

While sitting top of the Premier League and with a place in the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League secured, United are now focused on The FA Cup this weekend as they look to win the competition for the first time since 2004.

Sir Alex said: "We’ve been to Wembley and lifted the League Cup, but it doesn’t really matter to us what we’ve won already this season.

"When you’re in a competition as important as The FA Cup, that is enough to focus your attention."

"There’s no let-up in my desire to win this competition, it’s a great tournament."

Sir Alex was also in charge of United the last time their opponents Everton visited Wembley in 1995. On that day a Paul Rideout goal gave the Blues a 1-0 win, On Sunday, though, Ferguson is aiming to avoid a repeat and line up a return to the stadium for The Final next month.

"We’ve lost three Finals in my time at the club, on penalties to Arsenal [2005], in the last few minutes of extra-time to Chelsea [2007] and the 1-0 defeat to Everton.

"When you look back, part of you thinks ‘we should have won that’. But it happens in football. We’re just determined to make it to another Final."

I'd like to see Macheda and Tevez up front today. I think it would be a just reward for the way Macheda has helped to resurrect our season.

Without Ronaldo and Rooney we'd be in serious trouble. Everton are very hard to break down, we need at least one of them. Resting Van der Sar would be fine, I'd trust Foster doing his job properly.

It will probably now be down to Berbatov to open things up.

1327: Little bit of FA Cup team news for you, very early clearly - we understand that Edwin van der Sar, Wayne Rooney and and Cristiano Ronaldo have not travelled with the Manchester United squad and will play no part at Wembley today

:nervous:

good news. honestly think its worth the risk, tho in a way i'm surprised ronnie isnt on the bench.

Interesting if Rooney, Ronaldo and VDS have been rested. We should still have enough. I'd guess the team would be:

Foster

Gary Nev, Rio, Vidic, JOS

Park, Fletcher, Scholes, Nani

Berbatov, Tevez

Leaving a selection of the likes of Welbeck, Macheda, Evans, Rafael, Anderson, Giggs, Fabio and Carrick on the bench. Still a good side with the prospect of seeing some youngsters get a game.

Was Rio's latest injury the back again?

I think he should be rested, we can't risk Rio. He's so important for our defence and we know Evans-Vidic has played great together before.

waiting for the nani backflip ..
a 40 yarder to top ronnies goal

From Craig, in Newcastle, obviously, via text on 81111: "Is Michael Carrick playing today? Thought he just walked past me in Newcastle!"

Most likely bullshit but thought I'd stick it in here.

Gutted for Rooney, he would have played with a broken foot today!

Yeah i would have had Rooney and Ronaldo on the bench at least! Perhaps a Kiko start? My revised team:

Foster
Rafael Rio Vidic Evra
Nani Scholes Fletcher Park
Tevez Berba
