Manchester United vs FC Porto

Since I said how poor he was I've seen Eckersly a few times in the reserves and he played well.....but why the hell is he on the bench when we already have Neville as a right back.

Does anyone know how Porto line up? The only player i know is their CF Hulk and that image shows him in midfield... :nervous:

Did I get it right?

Uefa.com says Rooney up front, Park/Ronaldo on the wings with a three man central midfield: Carrick, Scholesy and Fletch.

Good line-up. Should be able to get the win, but it'll be tight. Surprised Gibson is not on the bench. Would be nice to have the option of some young legs in central midfield. Fletcher and Carrick could be knackered after Sunday.

I like that lineup for the first leg. Keeping a clean sheet is very important and Fletcher and Park in front of the fullbacks should help keep things tight.

Give Ronnie the freedom to roam around the pitch and sit down for a rest whenever he fancies.

oh oh....tell us you edited that post..

You generally dont get anything right...if you did get the team right, we might get beat

I edited it before the lineups. MJS quoted my post too:cool::cool::cool:

Have Uefa.com mixed up their positions up or are Porto playing with a very attacking line-up?

Yep seems much more likely than Ronaldo up front, even though personally I'd prefer Ronaldo up front alongside Rooney.

I think they'd make a good partnership.

4-3-3 always makes me happy though, and that centre midfield is magic. That'd be my ideal three centre mids in any game we played 4-3-3, even though Anderson and Giggs are quality in a midfield three.

If we have the game wrapped up early, Fergie may want to give the kids a run out. Neville is in case is he is needed, he wont feature if we play well would be my guess.

All I want today is to see Ronaldo on the wing.

He loses 60% of quality when he plays as a striker.

Thats a fairly random percentage stat.

With most people it is only a fact if it has some sort of stat with it... I've got a odd feeling about todays game, it seems when ever we are favs going into a game we tend to lose/draw :nervous:

Helton is a dodgy as feck keeper. He'll make at least 1 huge balls-up tonight, just you watch. :smirk:

Seems like your normal 4-3-3.

Sapunaru and Cissokho at full back, Bruno Alves and Fernando centre back, Lucho, Meireles and Rolando in centre mid and Lopez, Hulk and Rodriguez as the front three.

omg, just realised, we have Ronaldo....but they have......Rolando :nervous:

Not true, at all.

He's played well up front a number of times.

Same, Ronaldo's more effective when he's on the wings. But since it's a CL game I don't think Fergie want's to concede a home goal to Porto so he's relying on Fletch to provide more Defense for the back4 which mind you has been very shakey in the past three games.

Ecks can play right across the back four.

Goal.com says;

Manchester United (4-4-2): Van der Sar; O'Shea, Evans, Vidic, Evra; Ronaldo, Carrick, Scholes, Park; Tevez, Rooney.

Porto (4-3-3): Helton; Sapunaru, Rolando, Bruno Alves, Cissokho; Meireles, Fernando, Lucho Gonzalez; Cristian Rodriguez, Hulk, Lisandro Lopez.

So who's right?

Are the front three quite interchangeable? I always thought Lisandro Lopez was the natural centre forward so would play as the middle of the three, but Uefa have him out wide, with Hulk in the middle.

Also I think Rolando's the centre-back, and Fernando the holding midfielder?

Not Goal.com i can assure you

Carrick, Scholes and Fletch...might get a bit clustered in the middle. I wonder which of them will play the most forwards? Scholes plays a lot deeper recently, wouldnt be suprised if Carrick and Fletcher are giving more license with Scholes spraying passes from deeper.

Thats assuming we play 433 of course. I have a feeling that Fletch might be on the right with Ronnie up top...not sure what Id think of that to be honest.

Say we're one goal up in the second half, I would still hope we'd sacrifice one of the mids for Giggs/Tevez/Macheda and try and get a good lead going into the second leg.

Great team.

I've a feeling Scholes is going to have a great game.

3-0. Cruise control, hopefully
