Manchester United vs. FC Schalke 04

I seriously wouldnt mind something like this. Resting pretty much everybody that should start next week. A bench of VDS, Vida, Carrick, Giggs, Rooney, Hernandez ... just in case. And fletcher to bring on at some point.

supposedly fergie said berbs, owen, and scholes are all on for weds.

I just don't get it. Rooney and Chicha might need a rest but fielding a weakened team in a CL semi final despite a advantage just feels wrong. What if United concede a pen the first 15 minutes and get a red? Then it's game on. No matter what Fergie says, I think he would value a third CL win over another league title but maybe he just thinks Barca is a task he can't overcome with this squad.

We're gonna have one hell of a bench for this game, whichever side is put out!

With the big guns on the bench just in case

We are not going to lose to Schalke by three goals, all these red card and a penalty scenarios are about as feasible as those Gary Neville to score in front of the Kop before each game at Anfield. We have a key league game coming up and we cannot risk our best players in a tie we have won barring a miracle. And please do not post "they scored five past Inter", those were different circumstances and a much weaker team against them too.

Id personally rest every attacking player we intend to start on sunday against Chelsea, we only need to avoid conceding 2 goals and we're through, and its not as if our back up options aren't good enough to score past Schalke at OT anyway.

Also rest Ferdinand/Evra and Van der sar.

Should be enough, resting:

Rooney
Hernandez
Giggs
Nani
Carrick
Anderson
Ferdinand
Evra
Van Der Sar

The reserves need to get the job done. We need to give our main players a proper rest so they're fresh for Chelsea. Last season, Chelsea rocked up to OT and did us because of their superior sharpness.

VDS - have a safe pair of hands. A 'rest' would not make such a massive difference for a goalie.
Rafael
Smalling - need Rio fresh.
Vidic
Fabio
Valencia
Park
Gibson
Scholes
Owen
Berbatov

Give Rooney, Hernandez, Giggs, Carrick, Ferdinand, Evra and Nani all a rest.

I actually would like to see Berba and Rooney start versus Chelsea. It's at OT and it seems that a lot of us have forgotten who has scored most goals in the Premiership so far, most of them at OT.

berba should start against chelsea and chico later if we need it.

Sorry but after last year, I'd be skeptical about that

Nani, Fletcher and Rafael for Valencia Park and Fabio...who I think should all start against Chelsea.

Some players could get rested, but we shouldnt line up too weak. An early goal from Schalke, and things could get messy

Damn, I thought the game was today! Ah well, I will root for Madrid instead then.

Pretty much agree, except I'd play Nani for Park and O'Shea for Fabio. Also
possibly Fletcher will be deemed fit enough to play instead of Gibson.

Should be strong enough in the circumstances, but I'd certainly want the insurance of a couple of the top players on the bench.

Don't think SAF will rest all the key players as he'll want to clinch this. Imagine the lift Shalke will get if they see our reserves are starting. They did score 5 in Milan, let's remember. His team selection vs Arse might be indicative of who plays on Wednesday and who plays Sunday.

Seeing that Rooney missed today's training with 'a tight hamstring' I'm pretty sure he'll be rested tomorrow night.

As much as i want a full side to play, I think Roma 2008 when we won 2-0 in the away leg is a good indicator Fergie will rest players. Not Sure about Berba and Owen, Ive a feeling he might go 3 in the middle Carrick/Scholes/Fletch with 2 of Park/Valencia/Nani playing wide with Berbatov up top

Its a big cliche I know but the 1st goal is huge

cant see giggs playing tomorrow, and fletcher is down for 45 minutes.
Id say gibson could join scholes in the middle and nani will prob start instead of valencia

either way i hope we get an early goal to calm the nerves and take it from there. We could do without a strained nervy game here

The most important week of the season, Champions League semi-final and last three league games and look at our injuries and suspensions...

● Wayne Rooney (tight hamstring) - "we'll see tomorrow"
● Anders Lindegaard (knee) - back in training
● Owen Hargreaves' season is finished

I don't remember when we had such a squad at this stage of the season.

Available Squad for Schalke, 04/05/2011

Dont want to tempt fate, but we have played European football for 55 years and there has not been one result in all those hundreds of home games that would see Schalke go through, so at least we have history on our side !!

Expecting Rooney to be left out now after missing training, even if it's just a play to show Schalke respect but rest him ready for Chelsea. Fletcher was said to get 45 minutes, but I think we're more likely to see him start in a midfield three and play closer to an hour. At which point I'd probably bring Michael Owen on, depending how the game is going. I'd like to avoid using Carrick and Giggs, but if the above substitution happens, I'd expect one of them to come on for Berbatov to sure things up. Rafael to come and play on the Right Wing over Valencia in the second half if all goes well. Gibson might get in the squad, or even start. Same can go for Obertan, Fábio and Brown, but I think they're a little less likely.

I just want a smooth, comfortable performance. But I see us winning it with a somewhat edgy 2-1 in a closer game than in Germany, even though we're at home.

We'll beat at home and we'll beat them...er, already done that.

Berba to seal the game for us.
