Manchester United vs Hull City

What are the chances of Possebon getting some minutes? If we are cruising at half time I see no reason to bring him on, he should be on the bench.

He's apparently playing for the Reserves tonight. Could play against Hull if he only plays half the game, but this is a game we need to win and I think he's better off getting his fitness back in the Reserves for now.

Brown - Fergie's the No.1

Phil Brown is relishing the chance to take Hull City to Old Trafford to pit his wits against the Premier League's No.1 manager - Sir Alex Ferguson.

Hull have enjoyed a fabulous start to life in the top flight and sit fifth in the table with 20 points from their opening 10 games.

Brown's men come up against Manchester United on Saturday and the Hull boss is looking forward to a meeting with the champions after praising his opposite number.

"I picked up an award at the Sports' Writers Dinner on Sunday night from the northern sports writers for our achievements last year in winning promotion to the Premier League," Brown told the Hull Daily Mail.

"It was a great night and I was sat next to Sir Alex Ferguson on the top table.
Tough

"He was telling me about writing his programme notes for our game against Manchester United, saying who would have believed that his side would be coming up against ourselves below us in the Premier League table.

"I had a great chat with him over a few glasses of wine.

"We talked about certain things which are right in the game and certain things which are wrong.

"He's the No.1 for me and there's no better manager in the Premier League. After coming up against Arsene Wenger and Phil Scolari, it will be some test pitting my wits against him at Old Trafford.

"I know it will be tough, but I believe we can get something from the game.

"I didn't come into the Premier League to get beat and I don't enjoy losing. I came into the Premier League to try and win games of football."

They'll raise their game against us. Hull are a hard team to play against and we shouldn't be taking it lightly. Rafael won't start this game, Brown comes straight back in to help us be a little more solid defensively.

I'd rest Fletcher though and play Carrick to get him ready for the Arsenal game. Then get Fletcher and Anderson ready for midweek against Celtic, got a feeling Fletcher will have a great game against Celtic.

Watching some line ups posted and looking that Evans, Foster, Oshea and some others making the first 11 i wonder why so many people think it's gonna be an easy game. I ask myself why the hell some of you understimate a team that is above us in the fecking league table.

doubt people think its an easy game .. but we have a lot of games coming up and if we have to rotate , hull at home would be the fixture to do it in

It won't be an easy game, I doubt most fans are thinking that. And Sir Alex and the players won't be thinking that either. We've been watching football long enough to know that this is a potential banana skin.

I can see a few changes happening, Giggs, Park and Carrick being the more obvious ones. They won't weaken our team much, if at all really so it'll still be a strong line up.

I'm hoping Nani and Anderson start again as I thought both played really well in the last game and games is what they need now to continue the progress in the last year or so.

For any of the Irish abroad, my mate is living in England, and what he did was sign up for a sky account in his folk's address(in Ireland).

Then he brought the card over, and can watch RTE coverage, and Setanta live games. Bit more pricey, obviously, but worth it if you like watching the games at home, since you get to watch all the three o'clock games on tv.

dont think brown is playing so maybe another chance for rafael, however i think brown will start against celtic so we might see gary.

That would surprise me
Hull are a team that work hard and have a good team spirit that makes up for a lack of a couple of top stars, remember Greece at the Euros
If we dont score early ( As Chelsea did after 3 mins at Hull) I can see a certain amount of frustration amongst players and fans, making it an uneasy afternoon
On paper we should win easily, but we have seen it before when the obvious doesnt happen.
I shall be there, my brother is travelling with Hull, he is part of the management team. Many people in Hull think a draw is possible, but apparently the local Hull daily mail and the management want the Hull players to give a good account of themselves and not let heads drop whatever happens
They reckon they are playing the best team in Europe and want to give a good account of themselves.

Why would we rest Vidic when Hull's biggest threat is in the air?

Because with games against Celtic and Arsenal coming up, it's important that a lot of players get rested. Whilst Hull posess a strong aerial threat, Evans should be able to cope with it if he's going to make it at Manchester United. I know they're riding high at the moment, but you can't really expect Hull to pose an attacking threat at Old Trafford. I'd say a long shot from Geovanni is there biggest threat to be honest.

Neither Evans or Rio attack the ball all that well. Why not just play Vidic and Evans then, if we have to rest anyone?

Playing Vidic wouldn't just help cut out their attacking threat, it would help us keep possession for longer periods. Fact is, Hull's best option when they're under sustained pressure is to play it up to Cousin to hold the ball up and having Vidic there to challenge will only help us.

I'd say Rio is just as assured attacking the ball. Evans also has a great distribution from what I've seen, so ball retention shouldn't be a problem. If Evans is to develop, he could do with playing time, and what better game to give it than against a newly promoted team at home? He should be good enough to deal with Cousin.

Fair enough to think it's a good idea to play Evans, but Rio's played the most games out of all of our players this season and he looked out of sorts against Everton, so why not give him a rest instead?

Because to me that sends out a wrong message. Sure he's been immense for the last three years, but you've made a mistake, and Evans is coming in. Evans and Vidic would be fine as well. I just think that Rio is pretty much the most important player in our team. Vidic complements him very well, but I feel playing time with Rio may help Evans a bit more.

Basically, my point is that any youth defender hoping to break into the United first team should be ok against Hull.

Early goal, we'll kill em. Otherwise could be frustrating....but then I feel we're getting into our groove and this game should show it so I'm confident and looking forward to exposing our credentials.
