Manchester United vs Hull City

This is the second game in less than 72 hours for both teams. We have strong reserves who can start or come off the bench to freshen up the team. Do Hull, or do they rely on the same players every match? It should be a comfortable home win.

I read somewhere (MEN I think)that Hull have used the exact same starting 11 for the past five or six matches, but that one of them is suspended against us.

Last 2 times I've been to Old Trafford:

We've won 2-0
Ronaldos got both of the goals
Both goals were scored in the 1st half
Rooney nearly scored with a chipped effort

I'm going today too so 2-0 seems a good bet :)

Infact, the last 4 times I've seen united at all Ronaldo has scored the 1st goal

That's a bit like me.

I'm heading to the game too, got here about an hour and a half ago, and was at the West Ham game.

But my last home game before that was against West Ham, when Ronaldo scored first, so there might well even be more goals this time.

3-0.

Even though in my starting line up I've got Ronnie, Rooney and Berba - I hope Tevez and Manucho play some part.

Could someone PM me a stream? Preferably a Ustream. How does one go about finding those btw? I couldn't find one on ustream.tv's search engine.

I'm sure Tevez will make an appearance - as for Manucho, i was less than impressed with his reserve team appearance against Bolton. Wants too much time and space in the box with the ball at his feet.

just wondering if anyone has come across any good downloads that work with mac for streaming the footie?

We should win but i get the feeling it could be a 1-1 draw. That Geovanni always scores when he plays against us so we need to score at least 2 to win the match  :(. Come on United.

They're doing well but i'll be stunned and pissed off if we don't beat them. Especially at Old Trafford.

Yeah, scoring once is more or less 'always'.

Twice - i believe.

His goal knocked us out of the Champions League a few years back iirc.

And seeing as he's probably only played against us maybe 3 times or so he has a point :D

GOOOOAAALLLLL!! Vidic 4-1 from a corner...

Looks like we will cruise to a comfortable victory now!

I wrote something up for those who couldn't watch the match and still don't know what it was about...

Teams:
Manchester United: Van der Sar, Neville, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Ronaldo, Carrick, Anderson, Nani, Berbatov, Rooney. Subs: Foster, Giggs, Park, Rafael Da Silva, O'Shea, Fletcher, Tevez.
Hull: Myhill, McShane, Turner, Zayatte, Dawson, Marney, Hughes, Boateng, Geovanni, King, Cousin. Subs: Duke, Barmby, Garcia, Mendy, Halmosi, Folan, Ricketts.

1': We're off!

5': Goal! (Ronaldo) Reality sinks in for Hull. Ronaldo grabs a Berbatov pass, turns and fires, the ball squirming under Myhill. 1-0.

6': Hull win a free-kick. Geovanni smacks it with plenty of venom, but it rises over van der Sar and the bar.

8': Evra puts in a fantastic challenge to hook the ball out of the box, Vidic beaten (!). Evra then flattens former Red Devil McShane to win the ball again. Evra's been awesome, but Vidic's not happy against King and Cousin.

9': Berbatov flicks the ball over Boateng and plays in Nani with a fantastic through-ball. Good cross, but Ronaldo just misses the end of it.

11': Good atmosphere here at Old Trafford.

12': Geovanni plays a clever through ball into space: So much space, in fact, that nobody was there to collect it.

12': And Boateng decides to show Geovanni how to pass the ball to nobody with a ball down the left towards Evra.

12': There's been a goal for Rory Delap United. One patented long-throw, Ricardo Fuller getting on the end of it. Easy.

13': Ronaldo shows off his massive chest by insisting it wasn't a handball.

14': Rooney finds some space down the right and wins a corner.

14': Nani takes it short, Carrick crosses but can't find anyone.

15': Hull struggling to find the ball a bit. When they do, Berbatov forces Zayatte into a throw-in.

16': Rooney goes close! Shocking amount of space just outside the box, Rooney hits a shot but it's rising and goes just over the bar.

17': Geovanni tries from about 50 yards. Unlike David Bentley, it struggles to get as far as van der Sar.

18': Unable to do through-balls down the right, Hull hoof it up instead and Turner catches it - to give to Manchester United for a throw.

19': Nasty tackle on Nani by Turner, who is booked for the foul. He'll be alright once he gets some magic spray.

20': Foul on King by Vidic. Yank yank yank - not the Glazers, but Vidic and King's shirt.

22': Goal! (King) Easy free-kick, Cousin gets on the end of it and heads easily into the net. Vidic's having a mare. 1-1.

23': Carrick fouled by Geovanni, free-kick.

24': Ronaldo draws a foul from poor McShane, who's no match against Ronaldo.

25': Nani decides to do the samba with Geovanni, bumping him off the ball.

26': Vidic fouls Drama-King. Vidic doesn't look too good out there.

28': Goal! (Carrick) Fantastic counter-attack. Carrick scores on his return, bottom-right corner. Myhill had no chance. Through McShane's legs and off the post. 2-1.

30': Ronaldo finds an illegal amount of space on the right, and Ronaldo smashes it into Myhill and out for a throw.

33': Fantastic interception by Vidic to win the ball. And then from the resulting counter-attack, Rooney's through-ball is just too heavy for Ronaldo. Seconds later, Gary Neville (!) charges into the box like Evra does, just misses the ball - anything on it and it would have gone in.

34': Good determination by Evra to win the ball off King.

35': Ferdinand now barges forward and gets into a dangerous amount of space, but is forced wide. His pass misses Ronaldo, who somehow manages to win the ball back in the 6-yard box and the ball goes straight at Zayatte.

36': Nani shoots about a mile high and wide with Rooney lurking outside the box. Perhaps the hair's making it hard for him to spot?

38': Anderson makes another jinking run through the middle and gets crowded out. Cousin tries another Bentley effort from the halfway line. It goes about a mile high. Rooney then gets caught offside.

39': Hughes tries to volley the ball and he doesn't connect properly, going harmlessly towards van der Sar.

40': McShane somehow gets beaten by Nani in the air in the 18-yard-box. The header goes to Rooney who doesn't quite get it on-target.

41': Evra jumps with Turner and ends up going right over him. Perfect 10. Somehow wins a free-kick.

43': Good run by Berbatov; Rooney goes down easily, but wins a corner...

43': Goal! (Ronaldo) ... Which Ronaldo scores from a Nani corner. 3-1 to Manchester United.

45': 2 minutes of added time.

45+1': Berbatov fools everyone, including Ronaldo, with a through-ball that nearly misses everyone. Vidic then gets an iffy challenge in and loses the ball.

45+2': Half-time. It's mostly been one-sided, with some rather poor defending by Vidic.

Half-time ratings:
Manchester United: van der Sar 6, Evra 7, Ferdinand 6, Vidic 5, Neville 6, Ronaldo 7, Carrick 6, Anderson 6, Nani 7, Rooney 6, Berbatov 7
Hull City: Myhill 6, Dawson 6, Zayatte 6, Turner 5, McShane 5, Geovanni 6, Boateng 5, Hughes 6, Marney 5, Cousin 6, King 7

All scores, courtesy of the Guardian:

Chelsea 3-0 Sunderland (1-0 if you only count goals that are onside)
Man Utd 3-1 Hull
Middlesbrough 0-1 West Ham
Portsmouth 0-1 Wigan
Rory Delap 1-0 Arsenal
West Brom 0-1 Blackburn

46': We're back!

47': Turner fouls Evra, who had ripped down the left again. Bit of a nervous start by both sides.

48': Ronaldo's panna fails and he loses the ball, not that Hull are capable of retaining possession. A Neville throw finds Rooney, who slides the ball across the goal. It comes off a defender and Berbatov somehow steals it, and it strikes just wide to the left.

49': Anderson fouls Geovanni in a dangerous position...

50': ... Which goes wide. Corner off Berbatov perhaps? Referee Mike Dean disagrees.

51': Marney tries to find Geovanni with a header, but Neville's too good for him.

53': Ronaldo! Flashes it wide after a lovely ball by Berbatov.

54': Anderson fouls Geovanni.

55': Ronaldo's free on the right, and he finds Berbatov, who can't quite shoot. Then Anderson finds Ronaldo, who charges forward, one-on-one, for his 100th league goal... And Zayatte wins it back. Short corner comes to nothing but United win another one, Rooney to take long...

55': Goal! (Vidic) ... And Vidic makes up for his mistakes with a bullet header. 4-1.

58': Hull City substitution: Hughes comes off for Mendy. Nothing really to shout at for Hughes.

60': A lovely high through-ball from Ferdinand nearly finds Rooney, who can't quite get on the end of it.

61': Mendy wins a corner off Evra. Hull's first corner of the game.

62': A booming through by van der Sar beats Evra and it's a throw-in to Hull.

62': Hull City substitution: Marlon King comes off, a good game from him, for Peter Halmosi.

62': Manchester United substitution: Carlos Tévez comes on for Nani, who's been a little quiet after such a good start.

64': Mendy flashes a cross-shot across the goal, but nobody bothers to try and get it. Goal-kick. Rooney appears to be shunted to the right.

65': Marney tries to find Mendy on the right, but it goes closer to van der Sar, who lets it go out for a goal-kick.

67': Comfortable from Manchester United. Hull City look out of ideas.

68': Geovanni tries a shot which is blocked. Ronaldo goes off on the counter, and Tévez tries from 30 yards. No danger of that finding the goal.

69': Goal! (Mendy) Mendy chips van der Sar, and Vidic clears, but it's gone over the line. 4-2. Sloppy play from Evra.

69': Turner gets away with a foul, having been booked. Free-kick on the edge of the area...

71': Anderson tries a shot, which clearly he's not going to score, and it flies over the bar. When is he going to score? Never, if that shot's anything to go by. Manchester United substitution: Giggs comes on for Carrick.

73': Geovanni and Hull break, and Geovanni tries from 30 yards. van der Sar saves well down low. Giggs tries a through-ball but he's on a different wavelength to everyone else.

74': Rooney fouls Cousin, another dangerous free-kick, which comes to nothing. Rooney wins a throw-in.

75': Rooney smashes a shot into Myhill after a good cross by Tévez and flick-on by Ronaldo.

76': Anderson avoids the attention of 3 Hull players, before deciding to pass. Berbatov gets in some space but no Berbaturn this time, the ball going out of play.

77': Hull lose the ball, and Berbatov doesn't manage to find Rooney quick enough. Rooney can't quite finish it, but wins a corner, which comes to nothing.

78': Another corner and Rooney volleys it - it comes off a defender and out for another corner, which also comes to nothing.

79': Halmosi tries from 30 yards, and it goes into van der Sar's hands. Seconds later, Rooney makes a gorgeous pass for Berbatov, who squares it for Tévez, who can't quite finish.

80': Penalty! Ferdinand puts his arm around the bright Mendy, who goes down. Geovanni to take... Silly, silly, silly foul. A Spurs moment? Surely, surely not...

81': Goal! (Mendy) ... And scores! Now the pressure is on... 4-3.

82': Ferguson looks furious. Those eyes would pierce anyone. Neville goes down but Halmosi looks in worse shape.

83': Rooney gets booked for a bad foul. We have a game...

84': Mendy booked for a horrible foul on Evra, lucky not to get sent off. The game's getting fierce.

85': Tévez gets booked for a tackle behind Boateng's back. There's a nasty element to the game now.

86': Hull City substitution: Boateng off, failed Derby County striker Folan on. A no-brainer substitution. Anderson tries too much and runs into trouble. Mendy waits too long and the ball goes out for a throw.

86': Manchester United substitution: O'Shea on, Anderson off. Time to shut the door.

89': The game's so tightly-balanced. Hull have so many forward, and it's a counter-attacking present. But only if they can win the ball back...

90': Giggs and Rooney lose the ball cheaply. Ronaldo (!) flies in to defend in the penalty area too. All hands on deck...

90+2': Berbatov goes close! Seconds before, Giggs too went close... Rooney slashes the ball in an apparent clearance which finds Tévez, but nothing happens from the resulting throw.

90+3': Full-time: Manchester United 4-3 Hull City (Ronaldo 5', 44'; Carrick 29'; Vidic 57' - Cousin 23'; Mendy 69'; Geovanni 82' (pen))

What a fantastic game. Hull City announce themselves as here to stay. Defensively awful from the defending champions, but credit to Hull City for never giving up.

apart from chelsea winning, it's been a good day ;)

Resultwise I would agree. BUT the performance today has been all about individualism.

Players not passing the ball quick enough to player with space and clear chance to score. Also, a lot of unusual defensive errors.

Complacency.

Hairdryer treatment required for next PL match against Arsenal.

I was left somewhat dissapointed. Yes we won, but the performance wasn't great by any means. Credit to Hull, they were fantastic. But we wasted so many chances (something thats becoming a very worrying trend of late) and defensively we were a shambles.

I'm happy with the 3 points, but dissapointed with the performance. I'm pretty sure Fergie will feel the same way.
