Manchester United vs. Liverpool

Nani's been much better than Valencia. Kagawa is not doing himself any favours, I struggle to see him lasting the cull next summer... bring Janzuaj on.

Rooney doubling up as a midfielder and a forward which nullifies him a bit. He should stay further up but, if he does that, he won't be seeing a lot of the ball.

It's not been the response we were perhaps all hoping for, but we've played with a lot more purpose in patches. Liverpool have had too much of the ball though.

Tbf, we're doing much better than I expected with that midfield pair. Nani, Rafael and Giggs have been decent. So is Rooney. Kagawa is clearly not match fit - lot of mistakes. Buttner positioning is worrying, but that's nothing new...

Promising half from us. We have players out there who look eager but it's obvious they aren't sharp. Still i'd persist for the time being. They need the minutes and haven't done much wrong yet. I want more in attack. We haven't put enough decent chances together. The game calls for better movement and a bit more bravery in the final third. Liverpool haven't been stretched anywhere near enough.

We don't look threatening enough going forward and haven't so far this season and its starting to rustle my jimmies.

This has shown us that Nani is one of the best players at the club and should be one of the first names on any teamsheet. We all knew that, but now hopefully Moyes does. How can he possibly watch Young and think he has ability to match Nani.

Kagawa has been disappointing again, Buttner is terrible, our CM is asking for trouble as it's made of two players who aren't good enough there. Fortunately we have Rafael,Nani and Rooney for some decentish attacking play. Not really confident with the second half coming

Started well but then Liverpool came into it and looked dangerous. Overall a poor half of football.

Jones-Giggs midfield doesn't work, need an actual CM there. Smalling has been a rock and it's great to have Rafael back. Rooney has looked sharp. Buttner should not be playing LB.

Bang on as Moyes wanted need 2midfielders and need to go 433 and start pressing teams and then controlling matches again like we used too. To many times united are weak in the centre of he park for me compared to the quality we hav elsewhere on the pitch.

They've been able to bypass our midfield a bit too easily. Good job Suarez is rusty or we might be losing this.

Nani has been okay. Some great flashes. Give him more game time and he'll do it more consistently. Much better then the shite that we've seen from young and Valencia, who wouldn't be starting for mid table teams the way they've played in the last year (or ever from youngs point of view).
We need a midfielder on and it'll be a lot better from us. We've done okay considering giggs and jones are up against Gerrard and Lucas.

Nani has been our best player so far, Rafael an Rooney deserve mentions too.

It's telling that we're playing without a proper centre mid. Some illogical and pointless passing at times, but certainly an improvement on what we've recently seen.

Need to remember the likes of Nani, Kagawa and Hernandez have barely kicked a ball this season. If they can get something under their belt tonight, hopefully they can stake a claim for more starts in the coming weeks.

Its the normal Nani, one bit of decency followed by a brain fart. Beats 2 players....crosses into keepers hands. Rinse and repeat. Still the one most likely to make something happen though bar Rooney

So after about 3 weeks of being desperate to see Kagawa play hes now not going to last the summer?

The forwards have actually shown some good glimpses. As expected, it's hard to get a foothold in the game with the midfield.

Can't keep the ball long enough to get them on the backfoot for a decent period of time.

Not what so ever. I didn't actually even say he'd been bad today, just inconsistent as usual. One moment linking up lovely and the next strolling around and passing with no care as if it's a kick around in the park.

Of course if you dare say anything even close to negative about Nani on here you get hounded. Come in the match day threads with Young and Valencia though and see 50 straight posts of how shit they are.

This is simply not true. In 2010/2011, he was arguably our best attacking player. Add to that the fact he was consistent for the whole of 2010 and 2011. That's two years. In 2011/2012, he was our second best winger - he probably would have been our best had he not picked up an injury vs. Arsenal. The last sentence of your second paragraph suggests that it's common for some of us to berate Valencia/Young regularly, yet you're doing exactly the same with Nani, suggesting something completely ludicrous to aid your opinion. He's been good today, nothing special, but he's done nothing to warrant such an outlandish post.

The difference in attacking threat with 4 flair players, who actually move and look to do something is night and day, compared with the tumescent, uninspiring shit Young and Valencia have served up. We haven't got the break through yet but we've looked good going forward. I like what I see.

Give those 4 (plus RVP when fit) a proper midfield, play them regularly, and we'll see something special imo.

If you find a winger with 100% success rate on crosses, give the club a call.

He and rafael have basically carried our attacks down that right hand side. Some very good interplay among them. Both of them have looked very sharp.

Nani has been ok nothing special decent first half performance from him but hardly amazing

It's the league cup. Don't care if we win or lose.
Was the same under Fergie.. Moyes could do with a win after the slow start.. but this really doesnt matter.

Getting a good run in the league now that some tough fixtures are done would be far more important.

What.

Don't know what to make of our performance so far. I suppose we have done ok with no cm's but we need to be better in the final third. No amazing performances so far but Nani has looked decent and Kagawa has been poor.

We need more from the wide areas and the centre of midfield. Its strange seeing Nani on the pitch and not running at his full back. He's been decent but nowhere near as good as he can be while Kagawa has faded a bit after some moments of early promise. There is a big problem that our centre midfield doesn't move in sync with our attacks but then its not composed of centre midfielders...There does need to be more running off the ball. Too often we don't see overlapping runs being made, even from Rafael (who has been excellent on his return by and large). On the plus side Chico has looked sharp, shame it didn't come off for him when his hip shakes opened up space for the shot.

2 key passes, he's created as much as Rooney and has played the 2nd most passes of our team behind only Giggs. He's played a very intelligent passing game tonight, rather than step overs and wildly lashing the ball into the goal from 30 yards
