Manchester United vs Real Madrid

After thinking about this, its not the massive gamble we think it is. We are going defensive, with RVP playing the lone striker. We are holding out for a 0-0 ?

I think this is going to prove a masterstroke by SAF. Probably should've left out RVP too. That would've kept Madrid guessing.

Could've brought in a hobbled Will Keane for even more shock value!

I feel sick, I feel so fecking sick looking at that line up. We were brave on the Madrid selection, why are we not putting the best starting 11 out there that we have.

Why is everybody annoyed. If we're 3-0 down at half time fair do's but that won't be for lack of Rooney. I think Madrids fitness in second half was poor, we're clearly looking to wear them out in first half then bully them in the second.

Appears that way, and its a huge mistake. Playing defensive before kicking off and on home turf? fecking joke.

I hope Fergie has picked Giggs because he truly believes he can do a better job out there for the team instead of Rooney, rather then picking him based on sentiment...

Class fecking lineup, what's wrong with some people here? Absolute nuts some of you.

Yeah because our best player (or one of at least) being dropped to the bench in arguably the biggest game in years isn't going to be met with with questions.

Sir Alex has always been a gambler, that's why he's won so much for us. Not by playing safe. No way Mourinho saw this line up coming.

Probably something to do with madrid getting fatigued in the latter stages and we bring on Kagawa Rooney and Chicha. or maybe just 2 of them. Madrid will definitely be looking to attack from the start. It would have made a lot more sense to start Rooney and bring on giggs later. Hope this decision isn't because of any sentimental reasons whatsoever.

Looks like we'll be playing 4-3-3/4-5-1 with Giggs in central midfield. I'm disappointed to hear that Rooney's on the bench, it's probably because of a last minute recurrence of injury. I hope Nani takes this opportunity to shine, we'll need a big game from him now.

has to be some kind of a small injury. i cant believe saf would play giggsy over a fully fit rooney.

I think we'll be happy to soak up abit of pressure and look to hit them on the counter. I fancy our bench over theirs in terms of being able to change the game.

How the feck is Van Persie, Welbeck, Nani and Giggs playing DEFENSIVE? Are you on crack?

Some of you are fecking embarrassing.

Sorry but for the work Rooney puts into the team, especially for big games like this, i really can't understand why he's been left out. Instead we'll watch Nani be a lazy feck and try and be a hero about 100 times.

First point I think he's going in the summer, hopefully team SAF has picked will get the job done but I just don't see any reason to leave your best player out of your biggest game when there is no apparent injury.

I dont know how people can not question dropping the biggest player we have on what will be the biggest night of the season so far. It could be carnage, oh well. Lets hope it somehow works.

Who says Giggsy playing ahead of him? Maybe Welbeck is central, and on the evidence of the Bernabeu he has every right to. We'll have to wait and see, Rooney still has a massive part to play in this game.

some of the arse seeing on here, fecking hell.

8-0. welbeck. all of them.

Yes Fergie will pick a team for our biggest match in the season based on sentimentality. feck off people.

In almost every category I can think of, today's Rooney is better than today's Ryan Giggs. And that includes big game mentality, sense of occasion and all that.

I don't doubt Giggs will give his all, but there's no way he has the legs for this match. Shock early prediction, Giggs to expose the back 4 by mis-playing a penetrating pass and not getting back to cover.

To be fair it's not even that Giggs is starting over Rooney, it's not like clev has been in great form recently, Nani has only just got back in the team. Rooney just showed he was capable of lasting 90mins.

I suppose the thing I find most surprising is both clev and giggs playing. I expected one of them to play but not both when you have Kagawa who is clearly a better option as the more possession based attacker or Rooney as the alrounder/hard worker.

Hmmmn. Not sure what to make of this at all. Any line up without Rooney is a loss IMO, so I'm struggling to see why he is out.

Giggs will likely play primarily defensive to shackle Alonso. It's surprising though because Rooney could do (and has done) that kind of job very well in the past.

I wonder what the gameplan for Ronaldo is. Wellbeck on him?

Some of you grow a set of balls!!

Remember Roma in 2007? We started with Smith and Fletcher, two completely out of form players, and left one of our most in form players (Evra) on the bench that night! We still won!

If it works, it works! If it doesn't, then they were better then us! That simple!

Yeah because our best player (or one of at least) being dropped to the bench in arguably the biggest game in years isn't going to be met with with questions.

And you might go on to realise how important it could be for us to bring on a fresh Rooney in the second half if we're in need of a goal or doing a defensive job.
