Why are we crossing all the time? No target man and our crossing is poor!

Its the united way. The difference between this season and last wasn't tactics its performance levels.
We actually did better when Moyes stop trying to follow the united way and went with Kags/Mata.

Can't wait until LvG arrives and we actually move on.

Individually perhaps but pairing them together offers us nothing going up front. Add Jones as the right back, Young on one wing and a seriously out of form Nani on the other and the result has been this first half.

Yep I totally agree with everything you say but who else is there? Cleverley is dreadful Fellaini is a no that leaves only Giggs!

I'm of the belief that it isn't purely a case of having incompetent managers. The squad has been assembled to aid the wingers. The centre midfielders don't have it in their locker to play through the middle.

It's one thing to demand passing tactics, but if the centre midfielders have no confidence in tight spaces or to take on a man - what can any manager do? Throw Yaya or Ramsey in there, and without even changing a tactic, we'd be playing better in the centre.

We'd be better off with Joe Allen and Jonjo Shelvey in there - that's how bad things are.
You're speaking the truth there for sure.

Watching this on some stream where Joe Royle and Alan Curbishley. Anyone know what station it is?

We were just as bad in the first half against Norwich, then Rooney turned things around and Giggs was suddenly a genius.

I don't get the team selection. He seems to just want to pick whoever has been longest at the club. Moyes went for "experience" early on, and it was a disaster.

Whatever happens in the second half I hope this is yet another warning to those claiming we do not need a major squad revamp, we just need a new manager.
Ugh, I hate saying this but ... well put.

Too many crosses we need to go more central, bring Januzaj, Welbeck and RVP on and go something like:

--------------------De Gea-------------------
Jones------Rio-------Vidic--------Evra
------------Carrick----Fletcher-----------
----------Mata--------------Januzaj-------
------------------------Welbeck--------------
-------------------RVP--------------------------

Or something like that, give it a go atleast, Januzaj and Mata could drift wide too but the majority of width would be produced by fullbacks getting forward.

Wouldn't worry too much at this stage anyway, we have been the better team and remember we played much better in second half after dull first half in Giggs' first match last week

Yup. Dropped our best player of late (Kagawa), picked a winger who doesn't deserve to play for Manchester United on one wing (young), and another who has been injured or unfit all season on the other (Nani). Makes zero sense when you have Januzaj as well.

Also the obsession on crossing needs to stop.

But Gary Neville will be pissed.

Young has been crap; as usual. Off at HT, please...

Young and Nani - if ever there was proof that these two don't belong at United...

We have Hernandez and Mata upfront. Two short guys and we've tried floating cross after cross.

It's so stupid.

Not surprised at all. Other than Mata there's not another player in the front 6 many would like to see as first choice next season. At the back we have 3 who are unlikely to be here next season, and another playing out of position.

Can't understand the special treatment Young is getting here. The little that did go our way up front was his couple of good deliveries. For me, Nani should be the first to go in the summer. Absolutely useless.

Are you twats doing this on purpose so that we have to play in the Europa league next season?

Young has not been as awful as most are saying. Mata has been less than lethal. Carrick being further up is good.

I felt we were well in control of the match until the goal. But we have come back. RVP for Hernandez and we should be in.

If we wanna cross so much, might as well buy Andy Carroll then and settle for mediocrity

We have been absolutely awful. Every one out there have put on a shambolic display so far. I wanted to see how Giggs reacts when we do go a goal down. Now I will see it :)

Don't think we've been as bad as people are making out. Carrick and Fletch need to move the ball quicker, will agree with that. Young's been OK. Mata not in the game enough.

Bring Januzaj and Welbeck on imo.

If our wingers were any good and knew how to pick out players in the box then we'd be up by a few goals. Completely controlled the game until their goal against the run of play. We are getting it in good positions but the final ball is awful. Bring on Januzaj for one of the wingers, and RVP for Hernandez a bit later. Plenty of time to come back and get the win though.
That worked well when we had Ronaldo because we had him and Rooney. They were both fast and managed to stretch the defense out. Now we have no player who is as fast down the wing.

Regarding Hernandez...games like today prove why he is consigned to the bench in many games. He's a good player without a doubt, but leading the line against a team like this is never going to work. They defend in 8s and 9s and he needs space to exploit OR a seriously good delivery to get ahead of a defender and nick a goal.

You aren't getting that with 2014 Nani and Ashley Young, a marked out Mata and a midfield comprising of two players who want to hold and distribute from the back.

Kagawa would be quite useful today if we had him, to play him in midfield. He's better there then anyone else we have probably.

Complete reliance on creating from wide like usual. At least Young put in 2 or 3 dangerous crosses and Carrick another couple.

Young had 10 crosses that half

According to whoscored he had 10 crosses and 1 accurate cross and that was in the first 10 mins since then everything has hit the first man.

Yep I totally agree with everything you say but who else is there? Cleverley is dreadful Fellaini is a no that leaves only Giggs!
Perhaps play 4-4-2 against a team of that quality that is also playing 4-4-2? It's no good having Mata in the whole when his only passing options are to the flanks because Hernandez is so easy to cover when he's the only player with any moevement.

Why do we persist with playing wingers when we're obviously not very good at using them/don't have good enough wingers?

Is it a case of it being the only style United know how to play, 'The United Way'?

I have no idea why Welbeck doesn't start, he adds so much to the team.

Yep.

But but, what about the "United way".

Go watch videos of Van Gaal's Bayern (not the zombie year when the problems began. The first year there) and Ajax. High tempo, counterattacking possession football. He uses fast wingers to break as well. I think that's pretty damn close to the "United Way". Van Gaal is not a proponent of Tiki-Taka bullshit.

People moan and complain about Rooney but it's games like this today when he isn't playing that you realise just how important he is.

Given the strength of our current squad, yes. But some of the criticism is still definitely justified.

This is the worst I think I've ever seen either of Carrick or Fletcher play. Both should be replaced in the Summer as first teamers.

Giggs has a test now: Will he sub off Carrick/Fletcher?

If we wanna cross so much, might as well buy Andy Carroll then and settle for mediocrity

Said it before, will say it again, the way we played most of the time under Moyes, Carroll would be better to have as the striker than Van Persie. Sounds fecking weird but its true. Its the same today. Carroll rather than Hernandez would make us a better team.

When this is the case, you know something's wrong.
