Manchester United vs. Tottenham Hotspur

Brown is better on the deck.

So it will be an on form Bale vs.

Neville - no chance in hell
Sheesy - he would struggle
Rafel - would match him for pace but crouchatron would be over him
Brown - would match Bale for size and strength and have crouch in his pocket.

So, on that basis, we should expect Neville to play. Hope it's Brown.

As I've said before reversing the argument, Bale can cope with Maicon, but not with Emmerson Boyce. So you either you let Brazil fringe rightback stake a case against the number 1 one, or you basically put O'Shea or Brown on him to disrupt his rhythm..
That argument just doesnt cut it for me. Rafael would plain mark this guy while adding seriosuly to our attacking prowess. To hell with ''disrupting his rhythm''. He isn't that special. If anything having a fullback who forces him to defend would disrupt him far better than a tough marking one would.

Lennon, Modric, Van der Vaart, Bentley, Jenas, Huddlestone, Palacios, Pavylukchenko, Keane, Crouch ... I suppose they all get their specialist manmarkers too?

Bale would just dump that problem onto Assou-Ekkoto's lap, you need to have a defender willing to cope with both on their own, should AE and Bale get pass Nani or Park

Ekoutou would never survive Rafael and Nani without help. I assure you. Besides, Ekotou wont be leaving his half often with an inform Nani on pitch. I insist, one on one, Rafael can handle Bale very well. People forget how tenacious the kid is.

Funny Assou-Ekotto ventured forward on his own when Valencia was playing against him last season.

Agree 100%. People are going so far over board it's unreal. Anyone would think he was coming up against Ronaldo or Messi.

Well we don't know if Rafael's starting or not for one thing, so assuming he's even facing Bale is premature. Bale may even take a knock before the end of the week and then it's oooooh Lennon on the left, or Bentley on the left and so on...

Actually he is: his 3 goals against Inter were just the latest confirmation.

He's been putting in great performances for Spurs in almost every match since around the middle of last season.

I'm gonna go with Chief on this.

He's a good, good player. But we'll face much bigger tests than Bale this season. He's not good enough that we need to make special provisions on our own patch.

Bale is a superb player, not just good - he'll get even better too.

I'd LOVE him at United

fecking bullshit statement really. So what if he is in great form? Read what I said again. HE ISNT THAT SPECIAL! He isn't Messi or Ronaldo. People on here are talking him up as if he is in that he league. When he isn't even close to it. Bale definitetly doesn't need special treatment by our wingers and defence. Anyone who thinks so is an idiot. He is not yet that type of player in any shape of form. Not even close.

Exactly. This Bale praise is beginning to really irritate me. He is talented. But people are acting like he is the best bar none in his position in the last 20 years all over a sudden.

Bale is a good player, but I think he will end up as a full back despite this flourish on the wing.

I dunno about that. Redknapp made that mistake last time. I can't see him doing it again.

Methinks you doth protest too much.

It's pretty self-evident to me - and to most neutrals I suspect - that Bale is a special player. Beyond this I've no wish to get involved in discussions which attempt to define "special" or measure "how special".

Agree with the chief, Rafael will surely start.

We're at home. He's in good form and its only fecking Spurs. If we line up with some negative system where O'Sheas paired with Park or Fletcher then we've just handed the initiative to them to attack, and we will likely end up getting absolutely raped down that side. Pair Rafael and Nani and i would really fancy us to put Bale and Ekotto on the back foot. Neither are strong defensively so i'd actually expect us to get some joy down that side.

It seems to be pace that bothers our defenders (they are more than up to the task technically) but Kightly yesterday mugged Brown and Neville on more than one occasion, of all our right-backs I have the most faith in a 20 year old Brazilian kid.

Bale is Bale, some of his performances was dazzling this season with due respect... Would be a great match.. I mean young Rafa has gone against the Ribery's the Ronaldinho's already so a Bale test would do the lad the world of good, I can still remember keeping Ribery out of the game in the first half.

That is because you are suffering from a classic case of stupidity. Because it is becoming pretty obvious you think Bale is as special as Messi and Ronaldo.

It is not my fault you do not understand what ''he is not that special'' means.

I don't have to define special, or indicate degrees of 'speciality' to for you to grasp Bale has not yet reached the level of players who need 2 markers. A level of player that the likes of Messi and Ronaldo are in.

Do you lot reckon we'll be playing with a front two of Berbs and Hernandez?

Seriously contemplating putting the little pea if my fantasy team this week. There's usually a lot of goals in United Spurs games

I would definitely bet on both of them starting, don't see why we should play with one striker at OT.

I guess it will be:

Fletcher Scholes Anderson Nani

Hernandez Berba

What do you mean its "only" Spurs?

We've struggled with our own form this season whilst Spurs have had some good results. Underestimate them at your own peril

btw Bale doesn't play full back this season, rather a wide left midfield

I hope im wrong but i just dont see Hernandez starting this one after 2 games in a week

It's a tough one. We can play Hernandez out wide for portions of the game if we need a bit more in central midfield, especially since it was Park who started against Wolves. Right Back is another difficult one to call. I'd like to see Rafael as his pace might be best to cope with Bale, and Fletcher would help double up on the defensive side of things. I wouldn't be surprised if it's O'Shea, though. We can also stick Nani on the right and Anderson on the left.

van der Sar
Rafael Ferdinand Vidic Evra
Fletcher Scholes Anderson Nani
Hernandez Berbatov
--
Kuszczak; O'Shea, Evans; Carrick, Park, Obertan: Macheda

Bébé could make the bench, but I can't really see anyone else having a shot at making the bench other than Gibson / Smalling / Brown. I wouldn't mind a start at Right Back for Brown either, but he played against Wolves as well and hasn't had all that much game time.

We have to win this one as well. Our next three games are must wins if we want to be competing - as it's a good chance to build confidence with six wins in a row in all competitions. Spurs H PL, Bursaspor A CL, and Wolves H PL. Then, we can go to Man City for a game that we can't lose high on confidence. A draw at Eastlands wouldn't be hectic as long as we can win everything up until then. After that is Aston Villa away which will be tough, but then we have five games that look very winnable (3 league, 2 champions league) before two huge clashes with Arsenal and Chelsea.

Hernandez will definitely start IMO. Fergie's a dreamer and he'll love to see what he can do in the form he's in.

Surely Little Pea will start after the week he has had!

Wouldn't be surprised to see Evra left midfield again. Same lineup as Stoke except Nev out.

Not underestimating them at all, just saying we should pick our best side and let them worry about how we line up, especially seeings we are at home.

I didn't say Bale has been playing at full back. I said that I would fancy Rafael and Nani to get at Bale and Assou Ekotto.

Oh God, I hope not. He's not a natural in that position and it shows.

I thought he was absolutely superb in the last CL game at full-back but regressed horribly when he was stuck out on the wing at Stoke, before finishing really strongly when he reverted to his natural position.

Park at left wing please. Either that or stick Fletcher right (to help double up on ape-boy) Nani left and try to re-kindle the Scholes-Carrick partnership of old in the centre.

Actually, that's an idea. Rafael in to help cope with Bale's pace, and we can still have O'Shea in for a third tall and strong player to better deal with Crouch in the air. Although, if Lennon is fit, we shouldn't be just concentrating on Bale anyway. Even then, we should be the team attacking more at Old Trafford.

The only other thing then is that we'll play Fletcher and Scholes in midfield with Nani on the right, which could put a lot of pressure on them if, for example, Spurs go with van der Vaart and two others from Modric, Huddlestone, Palacios, Jeans (which I expect they will, I just can't remember who's fit). But we'd have a big threat up top with Berbarito.

We'll see, it wasn't Evra's best position but I don't think he did terrible against Stoke.
