Manchester United vs. Valencia CF | Champions League | 7/12/10

As things stand we get one of Schalke/Lyon, Madrid, Barca, Munich or Shaktar.

We've been very very good and yet find ourselves down.

Carrick, thanks a lot for ruining the record and potentially costing us top place and making us face maybe Madrid or Barca.

Ah give over, a few minutes earlier it could've been Berbatov who cost us it, a few minutes later it could've been Nani.

Carrick hasn't been the only player giving the ball away needlessly tonight. He's just the only one who was punished for it.

oh dear
the GD is if it ends 1-0 to valencia
then it'll be same points and equal head to head as we beat them 1-0 as well

if we dont lose, we finish top

Most of our play has been down the right via nani. Rooney has been drifting left a lot but less ball played down that side which why we might not be seeing much of him on the ball. We don't know what instructions Rooney is playing too. Will be interesting to see what changes are made to the playing style

Makes me laugh how Anderson produces a brilliant performance in the middle, making greats runs, intercepting balls, generally dominating, and then Rooney wakes up and goes on a few runs and has a great shot and suddenly he's the best player of the half.

I stand corrected. Just checked the table again.

Draw will be enough.

Sober up you Drama queen

In fairness Carrick did give the ball away on the edge of our penalty area and left the back four exposed, which is criminal at any level of the game and directly resulted in he goal.

What Carrick needs to do is forget the mistake. He visibly had a 5 minute shaky spell after the error. feck it and play your game lad.

Bring on Madrid. Sons of a bitches!

They put up some guys post on BBC Sport. "If United lose here that is the Champions League season as good as over. This is a terrible situation at the moment."
:wenger:

True.

Anderson has looked the most lively. Rooney had a good shot on goal but for the first 15 minutes he was hardly involved.

Berba has been disappointing. 3 good chances and he didn't look like a striker who has just had scored 5 in a game.

I've actually really enjoyed the game so far - we could on another day easily have scored 5, the chances we are making are at times really easy on the eye. Anderson looks the player we all dearly want him to be and Rooney is getting right into his stride.

Season defining did somebody say? well many believe Rooney to be key to out title aspirations this season and the crowd looked to be chanting his name, a goal for him in the second half and it could definitely be season defining but for all the right reasons.

We have been lively in attack but the cutting edge in front of goal has been as blunt as a spoon so far, Anderson and Rooney have both looked sharp and I was almost jumping out my seat when I thought Anderson was going to score.

We just need to keep playing as we are and a goal will come I feel.

This is probably the best we've played this season except for maybe the Blackburn game. We honestly should score today. Can't see us not scoring if we create even half as many chances as we did in the first half.

There was some talk after the last round that Valencia needed a two goal win the top the group. But that was incorrect wasn't it?

Champions League - Fergie hails Rooney 'courage' - Yahoo! Eurosport

If United draw or lose by one goal at home to Valencia they would win Group C, although anything more than a one-goal win for the Spanish side would see Los Che top the standings on the head-to-head rule.

I think Anderson and Rooney have been pretty close in that half for United's best player. Rooney did more in that half than your analysis suggests, he has been bright from the opening periods of the match alongside Anderson. Encouraging signs from both. Rooney's laid on two chances for United and also hit the bar with that effort. Anderson's made some good runs and played some creative through balls and also played very well.

Why doesn't Rafael attack anymore

He hasn't been bad defensively but he could've perhaps been deeper with regard to the goal conceeded.

Valencia are a good team, they have been pushing him back down the left ... fair dues for Rafael for not attacking on the backfoot.

Yep I've enjoyed it too, some very pleasing football at times. Hopefully we'll start getting the end of the move right in the second half. Like you say we could have had 5. A few goals to win the game and a good goal from Rooney to get him going before the Arsenal match would be ideal.

Bloody hell. There's been a few mistakes, Carrick's just been the one that has punished.

I forgot games ended at half time

The matchday thread once again lives up to its repuation.

This game is perfect for Hernandez really. The chances we're creating he's sure to put one away.
