Fletcher is NOT the DOF. Nor has he ever claimed to be. From your post you clearly blamed Fletcher for the mess.

John Murtough is the man in control of ALL footballing matters.

Fletcher is there to help determine if those we are signing are the right sort of players that are needed for the club. As far as I am aware no other club does this. Whether or not that's a positive or a negative on the club is another matter entirely. But for heavens sake, stop criticising Fletcher for a job he is clearly qualified to do.

Oh and he has ALL the experience needed to do the job because he has played for the club and has been a loyal servant for many many MANY years. He knows what it takes for a young player to make the step up, he knows the mentality required to play for Man Utd. Not some hipster signing that posters such as yourself may pine for.

Not a suprise as under woodward we had one of the most bloated scouting networks around. To the point where on occasions multiple scouts would turn up to scout the same player for the same game and not realise their colleagues were also at the game.

It needed fixing glad action is being taken.

I think Fletcher supervises the DNA tests
 
We had 58 scouts when Woodward was there. So many that reports were being filed and not read or acted upon. When Ole was in charge like Mourinho before him, he didnt trust the scouting reports and had a personal scout for himself to identity targets. Richard Wells or Simon Wells was his name. He wasnt one of the 58 on the books.

Thats how farcial our scouting network is, that two recent managers appointed their own scouts to scout for them directly rather than trust any of the 58. Ridiculous number of scouts btw.
 
Murtough does seem to be a lot more proactive than Woodward.

That is only half the battle as he still needs to do things well rather than just doing things to do them but it is half the battle. I thought Bout was highly rated but I might just like his name.

Are you kidding? What makes you believe that I think Fletch is the DOF?

If Fletcher is the guy to determine that, then we deserve everything that we have been living through. God what does he do, ask questions about United history to see whether the player we will sign is a fan? Who else has that position? If that's the case that you are making it to be, what the heck he does on the touchline? Why does he place the transfer negotiations? It makes no sense at all.

I am not an hipster poster whatsoever. Just because he served for years does not mean he is qualified to do the job. Go on then fill the management squad with O'shea, Bellion then. Why did we fire Ole then? He played for the club years and years.

Your arguments for Fletcher is so inept that I am not gonna bother to reply.

This is why I have said that I think Ralf is not speaking out on the players etc on his own. He has been around far too long to be so naive in what he says. He must have the backing of Murtough to keep saying such things all the time.

That's so sad if true.. So not counting the well known or PL players those thousands of scouts have produced what in the last 5 years? Lindelof, VDB, James, Telles, Bailly, Fred? Not a very impressive record.

Yep and I’m beginning to wonder if Rangnick’s mandate as interim as much about assessing the squad and preparing for the rebuild as it was about having any sort of success on the field this season.

How would everyone fit in together. Murtough is staying, so are there any jobs big enough for Ralf and/or Mitchell? I think one of them in charge of recruitment and contracts would be a good move, but then what would Murtough and his assistant DOF do?

I think that's been clear from the very start. At least that's how I saw it when they named him as an interim who will be staying on to consult.

According to all the news Ole thought he had the deal in the bag until that idiot Woodward decided not to go ahead with the Harland deal because he had to pay an extra million or so to his agent and there was a release clause. The Dortmund came and brought him. Woodward is the one who has destroyed this club.
 
I don't know if we need to split into camps fighting over who should get credit.

I am guessing you have spoken to Fletcher and seen his qualifications to say he is underqualified.

Also, it seems you lack football knowledge, In Germany, technical directors do sit on the bench.

Finally, the reason Fletcher is on the bench is because when we fired Ole, all the coaching staff left and RR needed help on the training ground. He was there to help and has continued.

If you do some research, you will realise that people speak highly of him and his football insight.

A classic case being Maguire, who our scouts didn't think should be signed when Mourinho wanted him but then we caved and got him anyway a year later.

So it's not quite as black and white as our scouts being good scouts, it's also about the power dynamic between them and the rest of the recruitment process.

Still, hopefully this is a sign of positive change. If we're going to make changes now is the time to do it I guess.

If it's a lady then it wouldn't surprise me if that lady is the head of data science at Ajax, (Vosse de Boode). I've shared her work on here before.

She did a very good job that one time I saw her. As for Ralf this maybe the agreement he had with Murtough that as a consultant he is going to be the guy who is going to make all the recommendations to him? Many companies and big organizations do this so internally there is not much of a conflict and Murtough would have the paperwork from Ralf to show to the board what is needed. It is a huge difference rather than him going to tell Arnold that so and so player is not good enough etc.

I know this keep coming from lot of posters. Fact is, that list was ignored by Ole and he went with this cultural shit thing. So cut them some slack. Not saying they have been great but Maguire/AWB/James is completely on Ole and Phelan.
 
In that Athletic article on Bout/Lawlor leaving it cites Larsson and Chicharito as two of his signings... fecking hell if that's the best they could put together for the article on his time here.

Larsson wasn't even scouted was he, he'd already won trophies with Barcelona FFS. Hardly unearthing a gem
