He'll be good if we play him right.

If he's simply just a holding midfielder and it's his job to just stop their attacks and pass the ball on to a more creative player ahead of him. (Basically like Luiz when he plays CM, and that's not just a 'hair' comparison) then Fellaini will be just fine.

Fellaini's main problem so far has been Moyes playing 4-4-2 which puts a lot of pressure on our CM to be creative, which it just isn't. If Moyes plays more a 4-2-3-1, or 4-3-3 shape, Fellaini will do great. Thing is, Moyes won't.

A CM of Fellaini, Carrick and Kagawa/Mata could work nicely, with Rooney/RVP/Januzaj swapping around up top.

Lovely jubbly

Im sure Moyes who pretty much made Fellaini's career knows how to play him right. We need him fit and kicking the shit out of people on the pitch.

Anyone know if he's in contention for Fulham? sorry for the ignorance, all I've seen is he's back in training.

Last week in training, the pics had him in a cast of some kind still so I assumed he wasn't in contention for Stoke but, Moyes said at the end that he actually was a possibility. So do really hope he is. Would like to see him paired with Fletcher, with Fellaini being the deeper player.

You need to take up yoga, Mike. You've got a very negative energy at the moment. Plus it'll make your missus think you're deep and that.
feck that, she's always on at me to go to yoga with her. There's no way I can give in at this stage.

Sucks for him. I seriously want him to get fit and get a run of games.

Personally I think players should have their groins removed when they first sign for united.....

Don't worry, the team has been essentially castrated already. No need to remove the groin now.

I was completely against this transfer but even I didn't think he'd have this many problems. It's truly been a disastrous start to his united career.

Worst transfer we have ever made. A very overpriced player who is not good enough to play for us and he's never even fit anyway.

Certainly looking that way isn't it? I think most people expected this when we announced his signing anyway, so at least it's not an unexpected disappointment.

If you give in on this she'll let you win other arguments, like where to go on holidays, the colour you'll paint the kitchen, or whether you're allowed to take a mistress while she's away with work. Anyway, I've got a 2 & 1/2 drive ahead of me. Cheerio.

I'd like to borrow your crystal balls, if that's ok?

He missed just 11 league games in total, over the course of his last two seasons at Everton.

Sorry, I didn't expect him to be injured. I just expected him to be one of the worst transfers we will ever make.

He'd be facing stiff competition for that accolade but we should probably give him a bit more than 8 games in a United shirt before throwing him under the bus.

Before he joines us, the last time he missed a game because of injury was in may 2011.

Sure, but I'm not expecting him to be significantly better than he was at Everton.

There is just something wrong with either our medical staff, medical facilities or training methods that players just seem to get injured so easily. It surely can't be down to luck or coincidence that our injury record has been woeful for the past few seasons.

Jaysus. Ashley Young was the same. Never missed a game when he was at Villa. I remember thinking that might have been a factor in deciding to sign him. The Old Trafford hoodoo soon put paid to that.

I'm not even going to mention the name of the most recent player to join us with an exceptional record of staying free from injury :nervous:

ITS ALL MOYES' FAULT FOR HIS STUPID TRAINING REGIME. HE NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM AT HIS OLD CLUB!

True. I don't get how we can have so many injuries every season. It was just the same during Fergie's last years at the club. I think it started around 2007 when we always had players out because of injuries. Can't remember it was that bad before, though in 2002-03 it was horrible during the first part of the season as well.

Yup, last match when we had to throw Carrick at CB reminded me of those fecking days when we played Fletcher and Carrick at CB because everybody else was injured.

Jezus give him a chance atleast....

I have seen plenty of him at the Belgium national squad, he has got more than enough quality to be a good player for us. First of all he needs to get fully fit before he can actually go on a serious run of games. He needs to be played in an appropiate way, not sure using him as the deepest man in a two man midfield is his best role, he is used to play in a 3 man midfield in the Belgian national squad and also at Standard Luik, he never was the deepest man there but was used in a more hybrid role (defensive aswell as offensive). At Everton he has played as the deepest man aswell as an attacking midfielder and he did great there, so in fact he may be more versatile than alot of people think. Also give the guy some time, he has played 6 games in a United team that doesn't work at all and is coached by Moyes who is still finding his way, hardly enough time to settle in wouldn't you say. On top of that he has never been entirely fit whilst here. He has been carrying a whrist injurry and sustained a back injurry. Whilst giving him time to heal from the back, the club decided to have the suggery for the whrist at the same time, which explains why he has been out for such a long time.

I think it is very unfortunate for team and player that he has sustained a groin injurry right before he was getting back to full fitness and could actually make his comeback in the team. We actually could really use him atm, looking at our mifield options.

I find it baffling the amount of unfair criticism he is getting. We have overpaid to get him, that is for sure, but that is down to Moyes and Woodward waiting too long to get the deal done, they could have done it a month earlier and they would have paid £6m less. He has been very unfortunate in his first season here, not playing for months due to a set of injurries. But for gods sake give him a minimum of respect like we give to all players, he needs to get a fair chance just like everybody. Calling him our worst transfer ever, while he has't even played more than 6 games so far is just embarrasing to be honest...

Bébé who just made his first transfer to professional football (he was playing in the homeless cup before that) to a team that was playing in the third division in Portugal, on whom we did no scouting whatsoever and just bought out of blind faith in Quieroz and spend £7m is a far worse transfer than Fellaini.

Berbatov who is our second most expensive signing coming from Tottenham for £30m is also an example of a transfer that is worse. Lazy fecker is no more than a midtable player.

Anderson and Nani that have completley failed and for whom we overpaid aswell and wasted years hoping they would realise their potential are worse signings than Fellaini as far as I'am concerned.

Veron, Djemba Djemba are also transfers that turned to be absolute flops.

Brininging in Owen from Newcastle, spending a fortune on Hargreaves who was more injurred than fit....

There are plenty of examples of transfers that are or could be seen as worse than Fellaini. When the guy gets to full fitness and has been given a fair chance (1 or 2 more seasons beyond this year) and the sitation about him hasn't changed, then yes he could be seen as one of the worst transfers ever. We are far from that, he has played 6 fecking games, be patient with him, support him like the rest of the team and give him time and a minimum of respect. He might even end up surprising you in the end. I have far more confidence in Fellaini than I ever had in the fat lazy brazilian Anderson (whom has been here for 6 years !). Atleast Fellaini isn't know to have such a history with injurries (this year will be a one of) and he is actually knowsn to train hard and work hard for the team he plays for, and I have seen alot more of him at Everton and at the Belgium national team than I have ever seen from Anderson or from Cleverley for that matter. Just give it time, and stop being so impossibly negative towards Fellaini, its really unfair !

It was a poor decision by Moyes to go for Fellaini but he's on the squad now so we might as well accept it and figure out how best to use him. He's not a deep lying midfielder nor even a very competent holding midfielder, but what he does very well is attack the goal at the end of across (the opponent's goal, to be clear!). He can be used as a second 10, so to speak, in desperate situations late in games.

But there simply was no justification for spending 27.5m on him.
