I've been one of his critics. Today he was my MOTM. Very good performance after such a long spell out. True box to box player. Delighted and hope it continues.

For all the hatred of him by this sites resident nutters, he really could have have made a difference during the run that killed our top 4 hopes. feck it.

Okayish performance but saw way better football from him in Everton. The more he feels home here the more closer to that level he will get and from that point hopefully he won't stop improving because in upcoming summer we gonna spend zillions.

Far too early to judge him even still but this was a promising performance.

A composed performance....A solid 7 out of ten. Didn't look out of place for the first time since he came here

Good reading, movement and passing....Hope he uses this and kicks on.

And this is coming from me. A guy who has always hated him since his Everton days

Exactly. He proved he wasn't such a bad buy today. When all said and done he was Everton's best or at the very least second best player.

Well done from the big man today. Still looked a bit rusty and you could tell he'd fatigued heavily by the 70 minute mark, but that's all expected in his first game for a couple months. As someone said earlier I hope he gets plenty of minutes down the stretch, has a good WC and comes back fit and ready for next season.

His sheer strength is ridiculous at times. Also liked the couple of occasions where he turned his defender and carried the ball forward. (Missed a sitter at the end of one such move sure, but at least he tried it).

He let our attackers play. That's all he needs to do. 7.5/10.

definitely one of his best performance so far, probably the best actually, because i can't think of many for sure.

he didn't look like a headless chicken off the ball today, he kept himself simple when he got the ball, look forward and pass to the nearest player available. should have scored as well. got a feeling once he get his first goal he is going to get quite a few for us from corners and freekicks. just need to get the monkey off his back.

A good sign he isn't lacking in confidence. There was two or three times where I was full sure he would have taken the easy way out and played a sideways pass or something but instead he turned his heels and left the opposition player nearest him flat footed by heading north with the ball.

I'm sure he can be an asset in the PL, but still have the concern that in the CL the refs will keep on calling fouls on him for just being near a player. It's really going to cramp his play. But lets see what happens vs Olympiakos...

Fellaini and Carrick were playing against a midfield more intent on stopping us scoring than competing for their patch. Although one of his better performances I'm reserving my judgement until we face better teams.

Not sure he'll play the first leg. As encouraging as his performance today was, he looked absolutely dead by 70 mins. Might not be quite ready for 2 games in a week. Could see Carrick and Fletcher instead.

To be fair, you can't say that and then shit on the naysayers.

Djemba Djemba looked good against certain teams, was he a good buy?

I agree he had a good performance today. But let's wait and see how he gets on over the next month or so first before we either yay or nay him

I think it's funny just how different Fellaini is treated to Cleverley. Fellaini has a very good performance, considering it's his first game in months and improved our play notably and still some can give him that. If Cleverley made that performance, coming back from injury, he'd be for many MotM and our future in midfield again.

Encouraging display from him. Not a worldy display but showed some things we haven't had in a long time. A CM willing to run with the ball, keeping it simply but not mostly sideway passes and decent in shielding the defense. Needs to improve on his positioning though.

This game, and the first hour or so against Everton he's looked good. Hopefully he can keep it going. We know he's capable of playing well against better teams, because he did it against Everton, and was always such a tough opponent for the big sides. It's a shame he's so heavily criticised before he's even really got going. Today was only his 12th game for us. Give him time!

maybe he lacks style but the matas and januzajs of this world need someone like him in their team. Today i think he did what was asked of him, pretty well. Signs are very encouraging.

Always said he wasn't fit and was a bit overawed. Also when he was signed, United fans in general were not that enamered, which no matter what, must have affected him a bit. I said that his time out would do him good...get out of the limelight and expectation and re-galvanise. Ironically, I reckon the signing of Mata will be the making of him. The pressure is off a bit and he can really begin his United career.

yes, I guess that's true. Dave will be extremely cautious I guess, and go with CL experience.

Fair point. If we'd bought Mata and him in the summer I doubt Fellaini would have gotten anywhere near the same amount of shit on here.

You couldn't be more wrong, no one really gives Cleverley any credit for any good things he does.

Fellaini won 100% of his tackles, made 4 interceptions & completed 92% of his 71 passes.

Fantastic stats for a man coming back from injury. This is what I fully expected from Fellaini when we first signed: a player who would act in the anchor role as a defensive minded footballer who would sit in front of the back 4 tackling and intercepting plays that came through his way. Today he looked twice as sharp as he ever did pre-injury, and you could see he was quicker to every ball as he ever did than ever in a United shirt. The injury really did look like it hindered his performance as a holding player, and I'm happy to see him showing his worth. There will still be argument as to being worth £27 million, but if he shows to be a good DM for us, and provides performances like this against more important clubs, then I don't see much reason to complain. Here's to hoping he can continue this sort performance in the bigger games.

I for one am not surprised by that performance. It was great to see him back and there is better yet to come.

Really?. I think you have got that very wrong.

He played well. He's capable of more and better.

Glad to just see him in the team as it's impossible to judge the value of a player who has not had a proper run in the side.

is actually probably fit for the first time, which slightly helps.

comfortable game against a sh!t outfit with a very limited midfield. A game made for him.

It's the games against quick moving nimble midfielders that worry me.

Was impressed with his contribution today. He seemed to pop up all over the place. Made some decent passes and tackles. Nothing outstanding but a confidence booster for sure.

Did OK, like the rest of the team

Glad he got a game. Think DM probably played his best team bar Rafael today - he may go with the same side against Olympiakos

He had a decent game. I hope he gains confidence and improves on today's showing. Anyone who has any negatives from today is really going out of his way to find faults.

Didn't set the world alight but did exactly what was required from him. Good 8/10 performance and I've been very sceptical of him in the past. Snuffed out Palace attacks early, displayed intuitive reading of the game, passed the ball well, showed glimpses of his famous engine and generally kept it simple. Still early days for him but an encouraging display overall. He should be for us what Matic has been for Chelsea recently to great effect - just no-frills solidity in the centre of the park is what we want from him. Although it was just Palace, needs to perform against better teams to warrant his spot in the future.

Real shame he didn't score today as he's had chances, would've absolutely boosted his confidence if he did. Other than that I thought he's done pretty well, felt rather safe in the midfield.

I've criticised him a lot, but he was alright today. I think he can make a good squad player for this type of game.

I always said that's be a formation that's bring the best out of him, and I don't think we saw anything close to his best yet today. He'll turn out to be a good player for us.
