We haven't played well with the Carrick Cleverly duo in the mid either. Fellaini has had mixed performances so far for me. He was alot beter than Cleverly when he came on for him versus Palace and he did a good job versus Bayer in the CL. He was out of his debt in the city game, like alot of our players were, and he was far from the worst on the pitch, yet i think he has the one that has goten most of the stick on here. Against WB he didn't manage to make any impact.
It is a bit worrying that he doesn't manage to do his defensive tasks, as that is his prime role in the team. Yet i also think it is being over aggerated alot on here. I have seen this Fellaini already at the Belgian national squad, as i have also seen him at Everton, he currently isn't in his best form and he is letting the game slip past him, letting players run past him, it is a flaw he has when he isn't at his best. But i have also seen another Fellaini in the Belgian national squad and at Everton, one who dominates the midfield and is involved all over the pitch, scoring goals at one end and breaking of attacks at the other. I know he is capable of doing alot beter, he probably isn't happy about his current form and performances so far, he also wasn't at his best at Everton at the start of the season, but no doubt he will improve. It is also clear that on top of his weak form he is also still searching at his new club. He needs time to settle in, he needs time to adjust to his team mates, to the bigger expectations, to a different playing style and possibly also to a different training regime. It is a big move for him, you can't expect it to be a flawless transition from day one, defianlty not at a team that is also still searching and underperforming due to a new manager. It all needs time, as was to be expected. Time which we are currently paying a very high price for, as the results that we are getting are shit, and the chances for a another title are becoming smaller every week.
It is the reason why i really wanted Moyes to act alot quicker than he did. He wasted so much time in the summer and this is costing us at the moment. If he wanted Fellaini, he should have goten him immediatly for £23m and he should have brought him along on pre-season. He would have had the time and opportunity to fit into the team quitely and without weighing on the performance and costing us points. Moyes is still examining his team, learning his players, searching for the best system and Fellaini is doing exactly the same. Only it is money time already and every bad performance is one that can cost points. Moyes should have acted alot quicker, he should have done his business before pre-season, he should have known his options and the best system before the season started, so we would have been ready for the difficult start, but he didn't and this is costing us atm.
