He's certainly not a natural when it comes to defensive instincts. Lost his runners repeatedly against City and a few times today too.

Looked mediocre when he came on. Not much technique and creativity on show.

Why the feck does he keep going forward? We need him to provide defensive cover not score goals FFS. He runs forward and then sulks back. Against Bayer he was good because his positioning was alright. Every time we need a goal, he assumes it's his responsibility and dashes forward at every opportunity. Does my head in!

Just needs to settle down and hold position. He needs to remember that he's not at Everton anymore where the quality up front isn't anywhere good as United. Work hard and develop a better understanding with Carrick and we'll have a strong midfield base to build from for the time being.

My only real issue with him is his defensive work rate. You'll sometimes see him running with the player but then gives up once they pass it or, this is what bugs me the most, when he is running with a player he decides not to go for the ball. He seems to think its enough to force them to pass it and then that his job done

Fellaini will be a good buy although Anderson needs moved on and a top class replacement for him would be nice.

Is it just me who thinks he's still holding a lot back at the moment? He seems to be a bit timid at the moment and just trying to do the basics. Nothing wrong with that, but it isn't the same confidence he'd radiate when at Everton.

With games, I'm sure that'll come.

If shits hits fan we can always loan him to a Mcdonalds outlet

To be fair we could do with some of that at the moment. He's proved he's capable scoring goals. But in that defensive role I had a feeling his lack of speed may be an issue. It's fine picking your moments to push forward as long as you get back in position quickly.

I'd be shocked if he's purchased for his qualities as a creative player. I'd have thought he would be a back-up to Carrick. I'm not looking forward to the 2 playing together unless they create a bank of 2 defensive midfielders and 2 of Rooney and Nani in front of them, with RvP and Hernandez playing as a front pairing.

I have no hate towards Fellaini but his signing is baffling. I really like the Carrick and Cleverley midfield duo. Haven't we played well when those two have been together?! Trying to get Fellaini in there seems to upset our balance a bit. I'm not knocking his talent, I just really don't think it's a fit.

All this opinion formulated in what one maybe two starts? Give the lad and partnership time!

Mate, don't be surprised by any of these knee-jerk reactions. We've seen it throughout the years and our supporters generally always end up looking daft. I remember a young Ronaldo receiving dogs abuse from our support after a while. Look how that turned out.

We haven't played well with the Carrick Cleverly duo in the mid either. Fellaini has had mixed performances so far for me. He was alot beter than Cleverly when he came on for him versus Palace and he did a good job versus Bayer in the CL. He was out of his debt in the city game, like alot of our players were, and he was far from the worst on the pitch, yet i think he has the one that has goten most of the stick on here. Against WB he didn't manage to make any impact.

It is a bit worrying that he doesn't manage to do his defensive tasks, as that is his prime role in the team. Yet i also think it is being over aggerated alot on here. I have seen this Fellaini already at the Belgian national squad, as i have also seen him at Everton, he currently isn't in his best form and he is letting the game slip past him, letting players run past him, it is a flaw he has when he isn't at his best. But i have also seen another Fellaini in the Belgian national squad and at Everton, one who dominates the midfield and is involved all over the pitch, scoring goals at one end and breaking of attacks at the other. I know he is capable of doing alot beter, he probably isn't happy about his current form and performances so far, he also wasn't at his best at Everton at the start of the season, but no doubt he will improve. It is also clear that on top of his weak form he is also still searching at his new club. He needs time to settle in, he needs time to adjust to his team mates, to the bigger expectations, to a different playing style and possibly also to a different training regime. It is a big move for him, you can't expect it to be a flawless transition from day one, defianlty not at a team that is also still searching and underperforming due to a new manager. It all needs time, as was to be expected. Time which we are currently paying a very high price for, as the results that we are getting are shit, and the chances for a another title are becoming smaller every week.

It is the reason why i really wanted Moyes to act alot quicker than he did. He wasted so much time in the summer and this is costing us at the moment. If he wanted Fellaini, he should have goten him immediatly for £23m and he should have brought him along on pre-season. He would have had the time and opportunity to fit into the team quitely and without weighing on the performance and costing us points. Moyes is still examining his team, learning his players, searching for the best system and Fellaini is doing exactly the same. Only it is money time already and every bad performance is one that can cost points. Moyes should have acted alot quicker, he should have done his business before pre-season, he should have known his options and the best system before the season started, so we would have been ready for the difficult start, but he didn't and this is costing us atm.

Cleverley didn't play against Crystal Palace. You make some good points, but Fellaini needs to improve massively on closing down. I'm hoping he can be our replacement for Carrick, so that we can test him in some sort of pivot role, but for now he needs to work on tracking opposition players, which really comes under improving positionally. I remember him having a good season in 11/12, before he was moved further up. For now, however, playing Carrick and Fellaini causes problems... For it to ever work, we would probably have to play 4-3-3, which I think Moyes will play this week in the Champions League. Cleverley, if Moyes persists with 4-4-2, should be first team. He just needs to add more vertical and diagonal passes to his play and then he'll have no problem receiving credit.

He's not a good footballer. Can't believe I was actually laughed at for telling the Cider/Elliott-brigade what is plain obvious - he's not United quality and his best position is as a target man in and around the box.

He's just a bit, rubbish, isn't he?

He was abysmal today, his touch and passing is not good enough. What is more worrying as a DM he just gives away too many fouls/free kicks.

What is more worrying is that Moyes, who knows better than most, thinks he is Utd quality and worth £28m.

We've been robbed!

I hold my hands up already, and admit I got this one disastrously wrong.

He's a terrible terrible footballer.

No passing range, limited mobility, poor positioning. He's proving what many of us said over the summer- he's just not good enough for United. Tackling and running around a lot doesn't change that.

A mate of mine just said "Cleverley is world class" compared to Fellaini....that say it all really!

He looks so out of place at United. What a bizarre signing. It's not like he's a young player with much room to improve either, he'll be 26 next month.

He needs to be given time to bed in but he certainly needs to be better than he was tonight, he was useless.

I hate how if you say something negative in the match day thread you are some kind of demon. So far he has been nothing short of awful, he doesn't fit in with how we play and doesn't have the quality to play in Europe... Convinced he will be our Andy Carroll, our Torres. Probably worse though considering we paid 27mil and he's worth about 15

Important we remain patient. He looked nervous, and has done since the city game.

He will need games to settle into the side and he will improve.

Tonight he had horrible night though. Nothing went his way apart from the assist.

His first 2 appearances he looked fine.

Not sure how the Glazers will trust Moyes with their money for the next transfer move based on Felliani's performances so far. Plus the fact that most people try and buy cheaper but not in Felliani's case.

Makes Bebe seem like a snip now at 8 million squids.

Grabbed the assist but he was shit tonight. Would love to know his stats on the ball. He seemed to lose the ball every time he was on it.
