No chance of Obertan starting after his pathetic performance at the weekend. Means Rooney will be wide left...and ineffective. Dam.

we could play him in the centre and he'd be ineffective too going by most of his performances over the last 11 months.

At least on the wing he will serve a purpose. If he was bang in form i would be annoyed about the propect, but he isn't, so I don't see it as a problem for us to be honest. If he wasn't on the left, he would be up top on his own, with berbatov on the bench, so the fact it probably means Berbatov will start is a good thing overall imo.

Can see JOS getting the nod ahead of Rafael for some reason. SAF is probably still weary about him in the CL.

Obertan doing the pre match conference tonight with Fergie really is a sign that he will feature I would think. With it being back in his home country in all good opporunity for him.
 
I didnt know you couldnt give a reasonable opinion on the result without being frowned upon. Especially by the likes of Kelvin. It doesnt mean I dont think we'll go through, which I think we will.

Yea I'm expecting to see Rooney on the left and to be honest I'm quite happy about it. He and Berbatov on the pitch together generally means a goal or two and he's more than capable of doing a job from that area. He might not be a winger but with Evra on the overlap that's not the biggest problem.
 
Don't think we normally do well with Berbs on his own up top. He needs someone up with him. Nani and Rooney can still do this, but will need to link up quickly.

Yeah, failing to adequately support our lone striker has been an ongoing problem for us when we play that formation. Rooney usually makes up for it by running round like a lunatic and generally making a nuisance of himself but that's not Berbatov's style.
 
I wouldn't dismiss the possibility of obertan starting. Yes he was shit last game but what a chance for him to make a statement in France. The manager might use that to motivate him. The only other realistic option is Rooney on the wing. Probably the safest option, but we know Rooney out wide is mostly ineffective.

Also he has been chosen to join the boss at the press conference. A sign maybe?

You said we are fine without an attacking midfielder, are you insane. It can be frustrating that we rely on Fletcher to support Rooney.
 
Would rather Rooney on the left tha Obertan.....If he starts and plays like saturday I feel it could be the end for the peanut :(

Meh. I've never denied the need to beef up our midfield, ideally with someone who can chip in with regular goals. What we don't need is some specialist "AM" who can only ever play as the most advanced in a midfield three.
