Marseille Vs Manchester United

I've got a feeling... this night is gonna be a good night...

How many Caftards would take a scoring draw tonight?

If that's what we end up with then sure it's a positive enough result and we'd be in a strong position but I wouldn't take it before the match. Our away record in Europe is fantastic, we've won 9 of our last 10 Euro aways, and I'm predicting another tonight.

The way I look at it is win your home games in CL. Any result that is not a loss away from home is a bonus. A score draw with a decent performance wouldn't be the end if the world. Can't see the Frenchies winning at OT in the return leg.

van der Sar

Rafael
Smalling
Vidic
Evra

Fletcher
Scholes
Carrick

Nani
Berbatov
Rooney

SUBS: Kuszczak, O'Shea, Brown, Gibson, Tunnicliffe, Obertan, Hernandez.

If not the subs exactly, that has to be the starting XI for sure.

Yep, team pretty much picks itself for this one I reckon.

Wouldn't be surprised to see O'Shea at RB though.

Defence picks itself - thought that was obvious - its midfield and attack where SAF likes to make the changes.

Most of the time. But in a Euro away and without Rio, SAF may favour O'Shea over Rafael again to bring as much experience as possible alongside the very good but still young Smalling.

Seems to be in the ball park area. Good call on three defenders on the bench.
We've got 22 players in Marseille, four of them misses starting XI and bench. I don't count Lindegaard, so... King? Bebe? Tunnicliffe?

Fabio coming on the pitch gives us chance to move Evra (or even him) to the wing.

Got a load of shitty boring Uni work out of the way early and now I'm buzzing for this. I love these big Euro aways. I think alot of people are undersestimating Marseille, they're a good side and have one of the most intimidating home atmospheres in Europe, but I still think we have enough in the tank to get a win.

The more I think about it the more I think that's exactly what will happen.

I agree with that. Smalling AND Rafael in such a big match is an unnecessary risk, and JOS is a better defender.

You'd think after all these years I'd be numb to all this but I'm just as excited today as I was back in the days of Best, Law and Charlton.
Day off work. Cigar and rum. Bacon and egg sarnie. 2 hours totally absorbed and away from the world. It doesn't get any better.

Marseille's possible line-up:
Mandanda - Kabore, Diawara, Heinze, Taiwo - Lucho, Cisse - Remy,Ayew, Cheyrou - Brandao
Azpi as well as Gignac missing. Remy was a doubt, but he is fit as well as Valbuena, who will start on the bench.

Why are people accepting a draw against Marseille or any other team even before the start of the match?

This.

After we get the starting lineups, we'll have a better idea of what the outcome would be.
If we play Rooney-Berba-Nani we'll win. Carrick-Fletcher-Scholes is sort of a given

Team-sheets not here yet but told #MUFC: VDS; O'Shea, Vidic, Smalling, Evra; Fletcher, Gibson, Carrick; Nani, Rooney; Berbatov

Gibson :nervous:

Spose he isn't a bad option in an attacking role as it guarantees we'll have some shots.

:nervous: but the rest of the team will do just fine

Edit: never been a fan of his shooting from just about anywhere. yes, it works sometimes, but most likely he'll waste precious chances and frustrate everyone

Gibson over Scholes and O'Shea over Rafael means we'll be even more reliant than ever on Nani creating something out of nothing
