Marseille Vs Manchester United

Didn't think we were that bad tonight tbh, think I'm in a minority tho.

Smalling was absolutely brilliant.

3 weeks time until the return leg at Old Trafford.

Hopefully Anderson and Park back, Valencia as well. Confident we'll get the job done at home, and I'll be there.

How many more games is Berbatov going to get in Europe? It's what 18 games since he's scored. He's just awful in the Champions League. I think if he does not score in the 2nd leg Fergie won't start him in any more games in Europe.

I thought his use of the ball tonight was excellent, but he needs runners from midfield to link with and we have zero pace or attacking intent from the middle.

What is it with French fans and these laser pens.

That's Ronaldo from a few years ago, the year we won it and now again.

I know he's been good of late but lets not go overboard

We played to our potential. Gibson, carrick, fletcher in the middle we played the football you'd expect with that lack of tecnique.

We drew 0-0 to Monaco in France in 1997/98 Champions League Quarter-finals and were kicked out of the tournament after another draw, but a scoring one, 1-1...

I'll repeat it but the way our midfielders (except Scholes) offer options to the CBs when they're looking for openings is sometime amateurish.Basically "sort it out yourselves lads".
They're too afraid to ask for the ball when under pressure

First of all gd result. As always we get the job doen away from home.

On the other hand what a snooze fest. Marseilel were poor and instead of dominating this game we jsut sat back and waited.

We switched to a lopsided 4 4 2 at the end and surprise surpirse we dominate.

More ambition is required when we play away against inferior teams.

4 4 2 at OT please

Moan Moan Moan!...If only we had the Midfield Quartet of Giggs Keane Scholes and Beckham like the last time we played in Marseille!!!

(Oh Shit we lost that one 1 0 !)

You don't get the point and have no clue. right?

Cos a game 12 years ago has a huge bearing on the current tie.

We drew 0-0 away to inter 2 years ago and went through.

To score away is preferable but least we didn't lose.

It didn't mean I predict us to bottle it again, easy man.

Deep.

To be honest, I can't take constant moaning either. It does my head in, but I don't mind constructive criticism and even I have to say we weren't great tonight.

A goalless draw isn't the worst result in the world, we're always great at home. Midfield is definitely a problem area for us.

A bit disappointed that Hernandez didn't get a run last 10mins or so, to try and present them something different

And disappointed we couldn't make more of Nani vs Heinze, we'll have to better with that at OT

That's because they aren't very good technically. Scholes demands the ball because he's capable of manipulating a ball well and always has time. Fletcher and Carrick don't have that in their locker. They can't take charge of games. They are midfielders who play second fiddle to the guy who controls the game. One hassles and is full of running and the other sits deep and intercepts things playing simple and correct passes. It's just not he players they are.

Yep. Sadly, we have some first-team players who haven't the talent to beat a man with skill or pace; so instead they look to get rid of the ball as soon as possible...usually with a pass backwards.

Well that took a lot of thinking . Suppose a prat like you can watch dull boring football and watch 3 very ordinary players , in midfield for Utd.
We all love the club but watching that hurts and seeing your comment, sums you up!

You know it's this kind of shit that posses nick and others off - 'watching that hurts'.

If you don't understand why that's such a stupid comment then you're a complete idiot. It was dull, yes, but 'it hurts'. Spoilt fecking brat.

Heinze won't do so well with Nani and Rafael to look after.

I thought that, but then O'Shea did offer a few moments in attack whereby he got beyond Nani, but Heinze at times was a left winger, but that whole second half was a disappointment in trying to isolate Nani with Heinze, or even better the CB

Sometimes they have to force themselves otherwise the CB will just lump it forward and when our forward are facing 2 good CB in the air, it's a pointless tactic.
I'm not asking to change their game, just to try to be more involved, to create spaces by making runs or dummies, to do anything basically. Not to sit around and wait for something to happen, they're the midfielders. They're the ones who should be making things happen

Aren't you the little optimist?!

realistically we cannot afford to concede at home but do in the champs league knockouts.

Wigan saturday....Chelsea Tuesday Liverpool Sunday, Marseille Tuesday, Arsenal/Orient Saturday.

With that nice little pile of fixtures. I expect Gibson to get more games now :(

Gibson, Fletcher, and to a certain extend Carrick were rubbish, again. Enough said.
The first 2 are no where near the standard of United first team based on their current performance. These are the worst midfields we have had over the last 15 years. Only after Scholes came on did we looked any more decent. Ref was a joke!
SAF should seriously think about giving 1 or 2 of our youngsters a chance to play. They can't be much worst than how Gibson and Fletcher are playing. Gibson is slow, immobile, lack presence and technique, can't pass. Fletcher is playing some of the worst football in his career. His passing at the moment is SHIT!

Thats totally irrelevant...at least we played that game like we wanted to win it. That was just dull tonight... It says a lot at half and full time when they actually have no footage or highlights!

I agree. They could definitely do better. I don't think for a minute that they'd be great at doing those things, but definitely better.

Point is we're still relying on a 35 year old and 36 year old to get us playing some good football. Paul Scholes is still THE man in central midfield for by a mile. Without him there we consistently don't look capable of passing it around well.

Marseille players were crowding Nani whenever he got the ball. If Rafael plays that won't be so easy for them because they'll have to crowd two at the same time. That in itself will leave some spaces for us to exploit.

Shocking game of football, the sad thing is we've come to expect that kind of performance from us. Gibson ahead of Scholes? O'Shea ahead of Rafael? Rooney on the left? Terrible.

How we can set our team up to play boring, negative football with the likes of Rooney, Berba and Nani in the team boggles the mind.

Scholes was good when he came on, and kudos to Smalling, Vidic and Evra who were all excellent.

ITV keep yapping on about Barca v Arsenal. Give it a fecking rest.

Can you blame them? There wasn't much to talk about in our game
