Oh yes, having no European football absolutely helps to integrate new players and implement the manager's ideas on the training pitch instead of just having to prepare for the next game every few days but still I'm not sure if expecting a whole new squad to be easily finishing top-4 at minimum is entirely fair when there are many teams with already established squads who've been better than us for a considerable period of time.
And it really is a whole new squad. The attackers and midfielders (Nkunku, Broja, Jackson, Sterling, Mudryk, Madueke, Gallagher, Enzo, Chukwuemeka) have a mere 77 league starts for us between the 9 of them, and any new signing who comes in from now on will also start from scratch. Defense is the only area where there's even a hint of continuity and even there we have Gusto, Colwill who have no games for us yet and Badiashile, Fofana and Cucurella who have all been at the club for less than a year.
Add to that a new manager coming in and it means that aside from a select few players (Kepa, Silva, James, Chilwell) we've basically done a full reboot compared to pre-2022 both from a managerial and playing squad perspective. Like I said we have many talented players in the mix and I'm feeling excited about the future but as of now this group of players and coaches are essentially total strangers to each other when it comes to playing football together and it could well take a bit of time for them to get their shit together as a team.
Right now I'd be very happy with top4 and content with a top6 finish. The most important thing for us right now is just starting to see some actual progress and keep building from there. The squad is also very young (average age around 23) so the hope is this group can grow together and we'll be in a position to really compete for the trophies in another year or two but as of now it's still just hope.
What can you possibly base any of this on?

The fact that they have spent serious money on some very good players, have no European football to distract them meaning the coaching staff have extra time to work on their principles, they actually have a very good squad and last season was a poor reflection of the quality,
We've seen what EtH can do within a season with arguably a weaker squad, I'd very much expect Poch and Chelsea to be able to get close to that level.
We don’t know how good they are, all we know is that they spent a lot of money on them. On top of that they’re selling all the players that have been their starting 11 so it’s not as if these players have pedigree behind them, it’s an entirely new squad with nothing but failure behind them
I half want us to sign Weghorst just to see if you'll stick to your opinion that he's better than Mount.

I'm not stating that Ranieri is a better manager than Poch, but he was that season, he deserved to win the manager of the season for winning the league with a team fancied for relegation.
Something which apparently Poch should have won due to having better statistics than Leicester, when the only statistic that really matter is the points tally at the end of the season.
So basically is this thread going to solely consist of one poster going too far one way and others overcompensating by going too far the other?
Yep. The guy Champ who's stalking Amadaeus might be an even more tragic case than he is. Hard to judge really.

I think he will be let go of within 2 years. He has regressed as a manager these past few years imo and the Chelsea position atm is not an easy one.
I actually think they have a very talented squad and went through what we sort of did under Ralf. Someone who can steady the ship and get the players competing again will do a decent job with them and I think they'll be in the mix for top four this season.
Success for him would be top four + challenging for a cup, don't think he's good enough to compete with Pep / Klopp and probably even Ten Hag. My hope with EtH is that he can actually get us going toe to toe with Pool / City, don't think Poch will ever be able to do that.

Ten Hag has got just as much to prove in the "competing with Pep and Klopp" stakes, if not more.
Pochettino seems like a proper nutter. Dont want to hide behind excuse. I like his confidence and want to win from first match. Refreshing to see that after witnessed potter and lampard as our managers.

You thought Chelsea were going to spend at the very least £350m without selling anyone from the first XI outside of Havertz, and that it's apparently surprising that this projection has had to be adjusted of late?
In what universe would Kane ever become a Chelsea player this summer? You might as well have projected us to buy Haaland.
Isn't that the norm for chelsea that past few season? They have spent more than any other clubs. It was a strong squad that have definitely made chelsea challenged for the title. It was adjusted last month not to recently.
The same universe that saw the likes of tevez join Manchester city, van persie joim united, sol Campbell join arsenal, Luis Figo join real madrid, Ashley Cole join chelsea and I can keep going. It isn't possible, although rare.
I agree, but I feel that will be his ceiling. Given the money Chelsea have spent, how trigger happy they seem to be with their managers and their past of success, I don't think a B-tier trophy every now and again will keep the fans/board on his side. They aren't Spurs.

Nah, it was a brilliant squad and if Pochettino was given that squad, he would have perhaps challenged for the league. The squad that is being given to him now looks more tamed and is meant for future development similiar to Arsenal team. The rumor squad so far isnt built to challenged for the title next season , but moreso develop chemistry with each other and challenge for a champion league place. Also Levy specifically said he'd never sell Kane to Chelsea in the same vein of them refusing Modric's move to Chelsea when he requested it. There's a lot of history you'll have to get up to speed on now that you've joined our camp - suggesting we are capable of buying Tottenham players is a good way to stand out like a sore thumb.
And Mbappe would be great at United.
Definitely makes him more deserving of the MTOY award though and a better manager that season for sure in terms of over performing his club’s expectations.
Yes you are right. It was basically a one horse race that season, and he lost it.
Brilliant man manager and I m sure many players that played under him think the same. Not that many managers have this emotional intelligence, which is one of many elements that separate Pochettino from other managers.

Many, many others. He sees colors more vividly than most people. He can sing competently across four octaves. He can wiggle his ears without touching them. And he makes a wonderful blamanche.
Poch has zero chance winning EPL or UCL with Chelsea any time soon. And nothing less will be enough, so he is a "dead man" walking, even before he starts.
Personally, I don't think he is making even top 4, unless us and Liverpool are having a horrible season. If he misses top 4, he gets sacked in a blink of an eye
