Look at the facts, statements released by the player, and statements released by the club.
The club have been firm. Sir Alex talked about history and his disappointment that Wayne was thinking of leaving. When asked about Rooney's statement, he talked about the clubs policies and history. He went on to say, in not so many words, that if he wanted to leave, he could, the grass is not always greener. They key theme in both United statements was: The door is still open, but only just.
Rooney's statement, the only one he has released, kissed a bit of arse. Talked about respecting the club and manager, citing the only reason for not signing was due to the meeting with David Gill (the content of that we still don't know).
There has nothing been said, in firm quotes from either side, which makes United look stupid in my opinion.
If Rooney stays, and this prompts the Glazers to take a firm look at their business model in relation to investment and spending, would this not be a bonus?
