Without going through these pages and pages of utter shit from most of you, is there anybody here other than myself who thinks that the reasons Wayne gave for not wanting to stay the other day were genuine?
He's right in saying that we've not been showing enough ambition of late. Other clubs such as City, Spurs and Chelsea have continued to sign top quality players and since 2008 we've allowed these clubs to catch us (if not take over us) and it's worrying.
In my opinion Wayne has helped the club to realise that this week and i feel he's been promised that we'll be looking to invest in world-class talent and to carry on competing for major trophies.
By adopting the stance he did i think he showed he feels the same way as the anti-glazer section of our support do in that we're all worried about the lack of investment in the team itself. Wayne's behaviour this week has served to highlight how close our squad is to falling away from the top of the English game.
This was never about money. It was about the direction the club looked to be heading in.
Suppoters are a fickle bunch, I reckon you'll all be chanting his name again within 12 months time...

Of course money was an issue, but I also think that was genuinly concerned.. AND... I suspect that Fergie's succesor may also have something to do with it. What planet are you living on? Since when was it ever not about the money. This is nothing to do with the Glazers and we haven't even reached the 'our squad isn't good enough' stage because we have a team that was 1 point from the title. We are going through transition but he knows that and who is he to think he's the best player in the team? He's had the worst start ever and he's parading himself like he's Pele just because he had one top season.

For people saying this proves it wasn't all about the money, you're deluded. Rooney only makes a portion of his money from wages and the rest from endorsements, etc. His recent indiscretions have significantly affected his public image, but if you add to that his betraying SAF and United, his image is at rock bottom. Throw in the fact that he'd be less profitable to the companies at any other club, and he would have lost money on endorsements had he left.

I think his reasons where mixed sure he wanted more money as everyone of our players probably would. Also he is/was geniuely worried that he would be trapped at a club less their genius manager and with no means of investing in the team. He has obviously been told this is not the case, Ferguson will be staying ofr the majority of his new contract and we will be investing money in the team.
The thing that bugs me is many fans have been saying the same thing, complaining about the lack of investment in the team but saying Rooney was getting at his fellow players, when he was only stating what they are saying. Dwight Yorke explained it quite well, all the players should, if there ambitious want further investment in the team.
On a side note a very small percentage of our fans hated Rooney before all this, being our best player and being English doesn't sit well with them, they sit there no doubt weighing up whether to put on their Utd shirt or Madrid Ronaldo shirt.
There's degrees of all about money. Kaka (and Milan) were offered a lot more by City than they were offered by Madrid but big players go to big clubs. Did Rooney really want to be the first of the "in his prime" big players to go to a non-CL team? That's a job for a Ronaldinho or someone looking for a last big early retirement payout (Kaka next summer maybe)
In any case Rooney's endorsement income drop would have wiped out a 70k/week difference. No question about that - as someone once said.

Like I said... the easy way out would have been for Rooney to leave the club in January. In stead he chose the difficult option... and he will know he's going to come in for for hammering from the fans. Remeber what happened last night in front of his house (where his wife and child were also staying... pathetic) and yet the next day he still put pen to paper. He's a much bigger man than you that's for sure.

I tell you what, If I had been in the situation that Rooney was in last night with those brainless twats, then I certainly would not have signed the extension the next day. Respect to Rooney for that.

That's just pure speculation. and even if it happens you could still argue that at least Rooney wanted to leave United in a financially better situation. It would have made a transfer much easier had he not signed an extension. Another bit of proof that he realy carse about the club. Anyone with half a brain can see that.

Stopped reading there. I've literally never played either of those games in my life.
It doesn't make me a transfer muppet to expect some of the millions upon millions of pounds profit our club makes to go back into signing the worlds best talent. Not the likes of Bebe.
People talk of this being a 'transitional period' but with continued investment in quality players over the last 2 years we could and should still be the best team in the country.
I wouldn't be surprised guess he's followed the Spanish model of a release clause (though not one set implausibly high for comedy/P.R. value) and followed up with a supplementary about dropping out of CL football (or even the top 2?) setting the release fee lower.
Now if he'd done that quietly a week ago no one would be any the wiser and he'd still be a jumpers-for-goalposts loveable scamp.
They still have quality strength in depth. They also haven't lost the best player in the world for £80m and saw none of it properly invested in world-class replacements. Don't be a pedant.

Giving in to one of the things we wanted (new contract) opens the door for the club to give up something in return. Something which we dont really want to do.
