You don't seriously think I was comparing Messi to Chicharito, do you?oh noes!!!! not that smilie!!!!!!! that means you are right!!!!!!!!!
as seriously as i think that messi would be benched in mexicoYou don't seriously think I was comparing Messi to Chicharito, do you?![]()
I think some of them are finally seeing some sense, but the whole thing is still biased towards Messi, everyone knows who Blatter prefers...you think? because i never said so
Messi was dropped in the 2006 WC as Argentina crashed out... but now his reputation alone will ensure he's the first name on any team sheet, even if he's injured.as seriously as i think that messi would be benched in mexico
Probably a little bit, although I think part of that almost comes from how incredible he's been in the past since he hardly had a poor year. Still, I don't begrudge Ronaldo getting it for 2014 at all by any means, even if I think Messi's beats him as an overall footballer when he's at his best.
i really, really have no clue on what you are sayingI think some of them are finally seeing some sense, but the whole thing is still biased towards Messi, everyone knows who Blatter prefers...
Aren't you glad that a man who knows football as well as Blatter agree with you.

he was 18 years old, and still many people think that keeping him on the bench against germany was pekermar worst ever decisionMessi was dropped in the 2006 WC as Argentina crashed out... but now his reputation alone will ensure he's the first name on any team sheet, even if he's injured.
Except for the fact that he was fit enough to feature in the 3 games before the QF...Messi had only just returned from a lengthy injury. I'm sure you knew that and hoped other people weren't aware of that.
Perhaps, don't know if it was the right call or not, but your manager at the time made that call.he was 18 years old, and still many people think that keeping him on the bench against germany was pekermar worst ever decision
that doesnt change the fact that he was 18Perhaps, don't know if it was the right call or not, but your manager at the time made that call.

So maradona was better than rvn, right? As long as you're sure... I'm not so sure that Ronaldo will be as effective in Messi's role at Barca, even though he would add many different things that Messi can't do.
And all those things ultimately need to lead to goals (being scored or prevented), otherwise they mean nothing.

Once again it's Cal vs everyone else.
Keep fighting Cal, you're convincing no one.
BTW... What are these things that Ronaldo can do, or could do in the Barcelona side that Messi cannot? Shoot more at tight angles? Keep perfect hair?

I'll start a new one called Ronaldo >> Messi.Thread should be renamed Messi > Ronaldo.
I don't know where I should put this one..
To be fair, there are plenty who believe Ronaldo > Messi (including me), but just can't be bothered to argue about it forever on forums. I believe that too.
I just don't get how you guys can argue this forever. The same points, over and over again. As with most of the greats, different people will think different things. Nobody is going to change anybody's opinions. Only the players can do that.
And with that rant, I'm out!
Do you mind explaining why you believe Ronaldo is a superior player to Messi?
I am yet to hear a logical, factual reason as to why this would be the case.
Well what I see as logical/factual, you might not. The reasons have all been done here over a 100 times. For me, I'd take a player like Ronaldo over a player like Messi everytime. I'd take a Ronaldinho over both of them.
I'd be happy to take it to PM, but every post here is attacked and I can't be bothered arguing with people who think Messi/Ronaldo is the best ever and nothing will ever ever change that.
To each his own, really.

Only thing Ronnie has on Messi is his haircut, power and speed. Messi stomps him in every other aspect of Football.
Shooting as well. What do you leave out anyway? Only thing Messi is better at is dribbling and being an annoying person.
Shooting as well.
Messi is better at finishing/shooting. He's better at dribbling, he has more tricks. He has a lower centre of gravity and therefore better balance. He's better at passing, he has superior vision and marrying them together means he is a much better play-maker. He works harder. He's more effective from deep. He can dictate play. He tackles more. He's better in big games.
Ronaldo has a more powerful shot. He has a superior physique, and with it pace and power. Both are good heading finishers, though Ronaldo's athleticism means he's a more dangerous header. Ronaldo is better penalties.
Your last point is subjective but I agree since I like Ronaldo's king d*ck personality, it suits a player of his ability. Messi has a spoilt child vibe to him in my opinion.
They both have similar amount of goals, but Ronaldo have more shot per game. This season Ronaldo have 2 goals outside of box, compared to 4 from Messi. Messi is much more efficient and accurate shooter. Ronaldo just strikes the ball fiercely.
I agree with all of your points except the part where you mix finishing with shooting. Ronaldo is a much better long distance shooter and even close range I'm not sure who I'd choose. Okay maybe I'm biased and Messi is slightly better from close range (maybe even more) but I'd chose Ronnie from distance.
I definitely don't agree with "works harder" though. I'm personally a Ronaldo fan but you have to say Messi is just born with his supernatural abilities while Ronaldo has had to work his ass off to achieve it. Also don't agree with "better in big games".
As for dictating play, I can't say Ronaldo "dictates" play since he doesn't have the play making ability of Messi but he can always be that one wild player who drives the whole team forward. It has something to do with the passion he shows on the pitch.
And yes. You've got to love someone who is cocky on the football pitch and can back it up. But there is quite a few things Messi is better at like you've pointed out... I couldn't think of many before since most of the things Messi is better at aren't things I enjoy watching as a fan as much.
I'd still choose Ronaldo if one was to take a shot outside the box.

Finishing/shooting?How many times do we have to go through the same point, only taking on shots closer to goal will result in a better conversion rate, and that's no indication of better finishing at all.
Dribbling? Agreed
More tricks? Just another way of repeating the previous point?
Better balance? Yet another?
Better passing? That has more to do with Barca's tiki taka compared to Madrid's direct style.
Better play-maker? Probably, but Ronaldo doesn't get a free reign to do whatever he likes that Messi does at Barca.
Works harder? No, no definitely not.
Tackles more? Again, you'd have to ask the managers about that, I somehow doubt that Ancelotti asks Ronaldo to track back and tackle and he's just too lazy to do it.
Better in big games? Doesn't Ronaldo hold to current record for scoring in consecutive El Clasicos?
Madrid and previously United's style of play has never required Ronaldo to play those passes, he's supposed to be the one to get to the end of those passes. How exactly is Messi's superior passing ability due to Barca's style? Ronaldo has never shown a glimpse of that sort of ability no matter what team he has played in. Laughable point.
As for Ronaldo not been given 'free reign' at Madrid, that's another excuse. Ronaldo isn't given Messi's role because he couldn't play it, simple as that.
