I'd give him a 7. I thought he was good, another cog in the German system that had no real stand out player other than maybe Muller, but then he wasn't really 'outstanding' in his general play, he just got the goals as usual.

He had a good tournament.

Yeah, I'd agree with that. He was "good/solid". Nothing as exceptional as a 8 would suggest to me though.
 
He was more like a 5/10. Looked uninterested for long stretches, especially in the more dangerous matches. Won't be remembered for this WC at all, at least I won't think of him. He's never been more peripheral.

5 is a little harsh I feel; I was close to giving him a 6 but that's the minimum I reckon
 
Seemed very anonymous to me in the games he played in at the WC, think a 5-6 is a fair mark for him.

Özil started awful. In the group stages he was shit throughout but thankfully got better the further the tournament progressed. I think he did fairly well if you consider his difficulties last season and that he had to play at a position he wasn't quite used to.

I'm always quite critical of him as I usually thought he was too soft for the big games but this WC he showed that he can do well when it really matters, so he gained a lot of my respect in that regard.

Most importantly, he was sensational in the final against Argenitna. He played really well in the game that mattered most. :)

He had those seasons in Spain with the most assists and so on. He was already a superstar when he came to England. Suarez and Ronaldo are gone also.
Sorry, but Hazard is 23 and his 2014 so far has been okish. I thought that the English media got down on him after his WC. His Cl semis games werent great either.
Augero and Silva are great players, but over the last years they hadnt the constant level of Özil for me. RvP after that season? Dont know.
Toure is a great player but he has some stuff going on, was a no show at the WC and so on. But only my view.

And IF I was born with talent I would have scored the winning goal. Özil was good overall in the WC. Even German experts agree on that now. There is more to a game then goals and assists.
He was great in the midfield. And you could argue that his best game was the final. Add to that the fact, that he was a big name going into the WC. People always give credit to the big names when their teams win. The WC win is a huge push for him that way imo.
 
Don't know what Ozil has done to Danny Murphy. I suppose he fits in with the rest of those pundits who unfairly criticise him. He has been very impressive since his return from injury. Looks to have definitely improved off the ball and is covering more ground. Had a few good moments against us. The incisiveness in his passing was class and he showed that he can adapt and play on the wings. A gritty performance. Fair play to him.

All Arsenal fans have been saying this on here, so fair play to you for viewing the player objectively and not judging him based on his demeanour.

Tbh, it could have gone either way. That pass he made to Chamberlain even with acres of space to run in to the United box. Had that not resulted in a goal, the knives would have been out.
 
He's been excellent since his return, bar the Monaco game - however no one was good in that one so let's (pretty please) forget about it.

I think he needed a rest, which his injury enabled him to have. He's come back bigger, fitter and stronger than every before. He covers a LOT of turf which seems to be missed in the whole 'he's lazy' argument... I guess if he flew about into tackles ala Flamini people would be praising him. Having said that, he got stuck in today.

He keeps the ball so well and his passing is sublime. He just needs to be more ruthless in front of goal as a few times he could have shot himself, but he elects to pass. I guess that's his MO, but really he can be getting on the score-sheet himself.

Nope. Özil's biggest asset was always that he could assist a lot of chances and goals. Today he had one assist for a shot. That is not enough for him. Sorry, that I have to disagree... That he is not the biggest converter - not a problem. That the shooters do not convert - that sometimes is luck. But he did not have a good match if he did not create enough chances... - everything else, covering ground etc. is just an excuse...

Good to see the club got him to bulk up after his injury, not as easy to push him off the ball now. He joined us after having a pre-season with R.Madrid and around Jan/Feb he dipped quite noticeably physically, he then got injured and due to the world cup his pre-season was again not ideal. So that 3 months break has been very beneficial to him, looks stronger and more focussed now. Like you say since his return he has been very good, he'll never be an eye catching player but he always makes the right decisions with his runs and passes. While Sanchez has scored more he does often make the wrong decision and messes up a few of our attacks. Can't have the best of both worlds I suppose!
 
Another Ozil performance to be honest, he's massively overrated, if he even is still rated all that highly.

Still, the bug eyed mutant still knocked us out!
 
I thought he played well. Perhaps could of went for himself when Arsenal got the first goal, but played it to the Ox instead.
 
I watched him in just three games since his return, altough they were their three most important games, and he was very average for me. Against Spurs he was probably their worst player, he was poor against Monaco(altough they were all poor against Monaco), and didn't notice him doing anything great last night too, but I wasn't paying to much attention to Arsenal players anyway last night.

In fairness to Ozil, last night there were two times that I noticed where he lost it and worked hard to get it back one even involving chasing a guy down and slide tackling him. That kind of work rate and desire is usually what the pundits lay into him for. He's got the tag of being a lazy player yet if you watch Monreal's goal the laziness on display from ADM to not even track the run of Ozil is just unforgivable.

I wouldn't have him in the current Chelsea team.

The money you'd need to spend on Pepe there's so many other defenders you could get who are better, not a horrible person and not as big a liability.

All the best football teams have cnuts in them. Pepe is better than any defender in this league.

Statistically Ozil has created way more chances per game than any other Arsenal player and that's been a consistent trend running through every game he's started this year. He's also been involved in (literally) half the goals Arsenal have scored in that period.

Which is why he's in the team, I guess. He can be playing like muck but still create plenty of chances.
