Mourinho - the honeymoon's over!

I'll bet they'll keep him around longer than the previous 10 managers, he's a star himself. Unless he's had enough himself and quits.

I doubt it if he cant bring a measure of success. At least getting to the final of the champions league or something then sure. But if he doesnt improve on what they've done before, the president is just as if not more difficult than Mourinho is and he'll probably be moved on.

Mourinho should have gone for more age and experience in his forward line over the summer and he might be kicking himsel over that. Usually Mourinho signs players that are between their mid and late twenties just as they are coming into their prime.

Ronaldo is at the level needed at Madrid but since Kaka has been injured there is too much pressure on him if others are not scoring.

Higuain, Benzema, Ozil and Di Maria are still a couple of years away from really becoming the best players in the world so that could cost Mourinho in the short term as we all know too well that the pathetic Madrid fans don't do patience!!

In one or two years though if this team can stay together then they are going to be frightening!

If Perez thinks that signing Mourinho = winning everything and playing beautiful football and in the first season, then he's an idiot......oh wait, he is !!

On another note i think any assumptions made here are premature. New team, new coach, just 1 month in a new season....

don't know why people keep banging on about Kaka, he's on the decline

People said the same thing about Robben,Sneijder, Cassano, Seedorf when they played at Madrid! When your own fickle fans are booing you after 2 minutes of undererforming no matter what you have achieved before then its going to affect you. And people said the same about Scholes here 5 years ago.

I am sure Kaka still can be phenomenal for years to come once he gets over his on going injury hell because unlike Ronaldinho he prefers to stay at home with him family when he is not playing instead of living in nightclubs chasing every underaged prostitute that he can get his hands on and that makes a big difference to a players focus and longevity

Kaka was already on the declince when he was at Milan, so it's nothing to do with Madrid or a new environment.

Obviously Perez wants him to win the league in his first year ... its unlikely mind, however there is a very good chance he can get them the Champs League ... he's got time on his side there. Just needs to get them playing his system for a few games towards the end of the season. He'll have them firing on all cylinders by mid-march/april mark my words.

Inter vs Barcelona at the San Siro in the group stages last year was embarrassing for the Italian team ... four months later, Bob's yer Uncle.

Great point, Inter were dominated at that match and after the camp not game Jose confessed Barca are simply better, but revenge was sweet at the Semi Finals

Boss ... Unfortunately I missed the S/F at the San Siro so I couldn't really say if it was a distinctly improved performance from Mourinho's men or Barcelona got caught out, or both.

Believe me, it was like watching Inter born again. In the group stages they were outplayed for the majority of the match and were not creating chances. At the Semi Final, Inter could have had more than 3 goals, they couldn't counter like they did in the group stages, the ball just kept coming back to them.

I agree well at least considering how he has developed over the years.

very true, good analysis, I think it could be Higuain to take the plunge for some reason

I think he may try using Benzema, Higuain, Ronaldo as a front 3. We shall see.

Here's Mou in action.

It's in Spanish but I already gave the gist of it above and you can guess the rest.

I found the bit between 0:44 and 0:48 hilarious. They ask him what he thinks about Gregorio Manzano and he goes "Who?". They clarify Manzano is the new Sevilla coach, he gives the reporter a baffled look and goes "I don't know who he is".

Pellegrini?
And we all know how that turned out.

OK - so it wasn't great, but they did score a lot.

I think we'd have to make a deeper evaluation both on the rivals, the project, and the strenghth of the team.

We've got a Gay Thread Title of the Year nominee.

It's not that simple. They are virtually a team divided in terms of their linking of the lines and fluidity. It's virtually 6 players in one half and 4 attackers left to their own devices in the other half.

Mourinho will get them going, of that there is no doubt IMO. If they give him the time required he'll get them to start functioning as a unit but it'll take time for his philosophy to get bought into by every member of that ego packed squad.

This is a good post!

There is no chemistry between Higuain, Ronaldo and de Maria.

Özil try's to play like a teamplayer but it's difficult when the others is not willing to do the hardwork to help him. He's slowly staring to loose confidence and this affect his willingness to run and create space for others. Whenever the three frontplayers receive the ball they turn into a "one-man-show" out on a mission. Sometime's it's comical.

Mourinho will sooner or later sort this out. The question is if it's soon enough before the train has left the station.

I think he will get them turned around, Real would be foolish to give him anything less than two seasons to do so, I think he will end up back in England in a few years regardless, hopefully at United, hopefully not at City

Its quite impressive that he has conducted press conferences in Portuguese, English, Italian and now Spanish.

It has been a poor start for Madrid with a lot of uninspiring and boring football, but Mourinho is changing a lot of things and it will take time, judging him after 5 games is a bit of a spastic thing to do.
