Mourinho - the honeymoon's over!

He didn't really need to tweak the system that Pellegrini left. Ronaldo tends to play more centrally with his back to goal and this is not playing to his strength. If Mourinho wants to play with two strikers upfront he should give Benzema a chance.

He's incapable of creating a team who play flowing attacking football - which is ultimately what they want at Madrid. Even if he is eventually successful resultswise, it will likely be due to a shit-on-a-stick style, which is a travesty when you take into account the array of attacking talent he has at his disposal

I've watched a few games of theirs, only enjoyable thing is Ozil. He already looks brilliant.

I'd take a guy who is capable of creating a winner, over someone who can make a team play pretty football. Look at how much shit Wenger gets of a late because he hasnt won much, his teams generally play some of the most free flowing football around.

The Oz has been average for their last 3 games, honeymoon over for him too it seems

Wouldn't say that, he's been the only bright spark in their attack really. Maybe he's been average but he's still been far better than Ronaldo/Higuan/Di Maria.

Nothing to do with Real Madrid. Özil has always had a few below-par games in a season and he's definitely not a man for each game. It remains to be seen whether Mourinho is able to grasp this nature of Özil as good as Schaaf.

He's not going to last long in this job.

Can't see him liking the idea of a football club where the media give more of a shit about how entertaining the football is, than they do about him, and even if he does put up with it they'll turf him out for not winning every game 15-0 before too long.

I've noticed our media have already changed Real's name to "Jose Mourinho's Real Madrid" though. In fact, I'm pretty sure Sky were trying to claim that he was defending HIS Champions LEague the other week...spastics.

it's always like that with the media

I mean when he won the CL last year, the camera followed him around for a good 15 mins at the end of the match and dedicated about 0.5 seconds collectively to the players

This is correct. Though I will say that it's not so much that his teams are incapable of playing attractive attacking football but more a case of the games that involve his teams are on the most part shite ... because he stops them (the opposition) playing. He destroys the possibilities in games.

If you need to understand algebra to understand barcelona then you need to understand trigonometry to appreciate the Mourinho effect.

He won't play with 2 strikers because he feels he hasn't got any backup for if on of them would get injured early on. That would make him change his tactics and he doesn't want that.

He stated so after the transfer window closed that he was disappointed not to have signed a striker so he could have the option to start with 2 strikers from the get go.

Porto Mourinho > Chelsea Mourinho
Inter Mourinho > Madrid Mourinho (so far)

Yes I know Inter werent exactly poor but he still had to work miracles to win them the CL.

Not really, he made Inter play to their potential but they have seriously underachieved over the last couple of decades considering the cash they've splashed. With the players he had at his disposal he should have been expected to at least try and seriously challenge for the Champions League, he did a great job but it was hardly miracle working and let's not forget Inter were very fortunate in the Nou Camp with that Bojan goal being ruled out(correctly, but only just) in the last minute.

All the top managers have their lucky moments but Mourinho tends to have more than most and not just with the bounce of the ball or players making mistakes but also referees making poor decisions. Had he been in charge for that game against Barca in the 2009 semi final instead of Hiddink there is no doubt in my mind that at least one of those blatant penalties would have been given.

So by "players at his disposal" you mean the players he signed such as Sneijder, Eto'o, Milito and Lucio? He transformed that team considerably. Not just signings as they had some quality players already, but by turning them into a formidable unit.

As for luck at the Nou Camp, I thought they were rather unlucky to be reduced to 10 men. Their performance after that was one of the greatest defensive displays ever.

The Inter job was actually easier than the Madrid job, that Inter side were out and out the best in Serie A so even with his poor start, including poor purchases and performance the team was still too good to not win Serie A.

With Madrid it's about catching Barcelona in the league and getting them back to challenging in europe. I said at the start he wouldnt win the league in his first year, this barca side is too strong and the test will be the following season.

One thing is never right him off. Right now the team is awful though and if it was anyone else the media would be far far harsher. Madrid can make even the very best look average, such is the club.

there's nothing lucky about him.

luck might have won one CL and/or one league title but his resume is unbelievable.

I agree. Every manager needs luck to get to the top, look at Pep and the scandal of Stamford Bridge, look at Ancelotti and the 2003 CL final when Dida was allowed to make a mockery of standing on your line, look at Benitez who needed fluke after fluke in 2005, look at our very own Fergie and the way we won in 99 and 08.

They all had luck at some points but the main reason for their success is because they are the best in their field. Simple as that.

Mourinho is the best coach in Europe when it comes to preparing a team mentally and tactically for a game. He is second to nobody in regards to analysis, preparation, and incisive changes during a game IMO.

He'll get Madrid that 10th CL and knock Barca off their perch...only if they give him the time though.

Yeah, people tend not to mention this for some reason. Probably because Barcelona are the best club in the history of the world and can do no wrong.

We played like ass against Rangers at Old Trafford. People are reading far too much into the early season performances, judge him after a season.

And you aren't allowed to tackle them without being sent off, or deserving to be sent off apparently.

And because they have Unicef on their shirts, they've done more for Charity than that bloke who did a lot for charity.

The difference being we didn't line up with about a hundred million quid's worth of ass on the pitch. Quite an achievement to take a team with that much talent and make them as much fun to watch as a rusting girder.

Did you watch Madrid? Or do you still judge Mourinho's football without actually watching it?

9 Kuszczak
6 Brown
5 Ferdinand
12 Smalling
20 Fabio
25 Valencia
24 Fletcher
28 Gibson
13 Park
10 Rooney
14 Hernandez

That team actually did cost around £100m.

Did Madrid win? They're away from home, they're not going to be playing attacking, swashbuckling football, because if they do do that in away games they're not going to get anywhere near the CL. They've got 3 valuable points, jobs a good 'un.

Yeah, great point, Elvis. That team cost almost exactly the same as Madrid's.

Erm, you're the one who said, "...the difference being we didn't line up with about a hundred million quid's worth of ass on the pitch..."

And then it turns out we did.

they have been playing the same at home aswell, not one match so far have they not been whilsted at the bernabeu, but it's still early days
