Moyes So Far!

Difference is Pienaar is very industrious, Kagawa prefers freedom to do his thing.

Perhaps Kagawa's not as good at imposing himself on games, you might be right about that.

It'd be somewhat sad if we couldn't utilize a talent like Kagawa, but as Hectic said: It's three games into the season. Let's wait and see.

It's not his best position, but calling it a waste was stupid. He's put in some top class performances for Japan on the left and could have been capable of doing much better for us there.

Hardly think so. That was Jurgen Klopp's assessment and I agree with him!

So far, a nothing manager... Hope he learns. How weak of mind did he prove himself to be by doing a random deadline day bid for Khedira?

No strategy, oh this spanish chap is quite good eh? Lez bid for zherrera four days before the window closes, athletico bilbao are renowned for their friendliness and if we have to deal with a release clause... Well, they are straightforward!

Jumping from midfielder to.midfielder, just randomly trying his hand and see who we could get, bah. It is out of sheer fortune he ended with the correct player in Fellaini.

Lets be honest. If one of us had written a self deprecating WUM of Moyes's first few months in charge, we' be hard pressed to top this without slipping into surrealism.

Obviously we should all "get behind him" and should be years off calling for his dismissal or anything of the sort, but it's incredibly disheartening how low rent his approach has been so far. The petty haggling and negotiation goofs may not be his fault, but the Cookish pursuing of Fabregas was, and the seeming indication that the only serious targets he had his heart set on where a couple of players from Everton, one of whom we didn't need, is exactly the kind of thing we'd been joking about all summer.

The idea of an upper mid table man with an upper mid table mindset promoted beyond his comfort zone has been the elephant in the room for months now. So far I've seen nothing to contradict it, sadly. The overwhelming impression of graft > creativity given by his recent team/sub selections in big games we didn't even score in doesn't help matters either.

I dearly hope to be proved wrong. These are just my concerns at this - admittedly very early - point.

Fully agree...

Sheer fortune that he signed the correct player when it was he who brought said player to England in the first place? Ok.

At the mo we got a pen and are a man up, but I wonder about DM team selection. We've got a team at home we should definitely beat and we've got two big games within a week in Leverkusen and City - was this not a great opportunity to give some players a game..
Not sure if Smalling is injured, but Evan's needs a game, as does Kagawa and this would have been a good chance to rest Carrick ahead of a crucial week. Hernandez still away from the action and Nani showed he the other week that he offers a million more things than Young, who seems to slow our play down and offer predictability in attack...

I wonder if Moyes is fully aware of how big a squad we have got and how crucial it is for players to get match fitness now, in games we should be able to afford it. To play Carrick and Van Persie in every single game would be a bit dangerous...

Evans just had two games for Northern Ireland. I'm not sure he actually needs it. And Kagawa is ill. I just wish people had all the information before giving their opinions.

He should grow a pair and play Zaha/Januzaj.

I've been supportive of him but really some of his team selection has been very conservative.

Ha. Fair point. But then again, this was a game where we could have rested those key players I mentioned and I stand by that. I made a few points. You addressed a couple and ignored the rest. oh well

The challenge Moyes is going to face will be to strike a balance between responsibilities and expectations. His responsibilities are his bread and butter, the tangible achievements against which he ought to be judged one, the most principal one being to win games. Expectations may be closely linked to responsibilities but extend the spectrum of achievements even further to include style, substance and managerial acumen in how he handles various matters at the club from players and tactics to how he even conducts his press conferences.

It is still early days but there is no denying that there is an immense amount of scrutiny on the man, from his choice of words during interviews to how he is managing his squad. From the soundbites we have had, if potential longevity/continuity was really the most decisive variable in his appointment then one can't help but wonder how is he going to manage that. Will he stick to the tried and tested formula as we have seen thus far in term of team rotation and tactics or will he try to impose a style distinct from that of his predecessor? However way he goes about it, his every move and word are guaranteed to be closely examined by fans, pundits and the opposition alike. He needs to be bold and brave though in how he manages matters and could do well with giving fewer interviews thereby giving less ammunition to his would be assessors.

Moyes seems to have dumbed down the team. sacrificed flair for safety.

He may turn out to be a successful manager, but I hope not at the expense of playing the game the way United play.

In our long history we have had two great managers. So Moyes is up against it. But he has the character. I hope he is willing to take the chance.

I don't think we look anymore disjointed or lacking of creativity than we have for the past couple years.

He's still learning about his players. I think it's safe to assume that the majority of managers starting new at a club value safety over flair. Once he becomes more familiar with his players, and thus comfortable, a more attacking and flair based style will come. Moyes is simply being sensible.

Completely agreed. A good run of victories should help him and the team settle down.

7 points from Swansea away, Chelsea at home, Liverpool away and Palace at home is not bad at all.

sticks out like a sore thumb. He has tightened the defence. We press and tackle more. But look lost for creativity. He is afraid to make a mistake...at least I hope that is what he is doing being handed the biggest job in club football. I hope once he starts believing in himself, he will trust the team/players he has and look to the legend of what this club is all about. Players like Janujaz are what the club is about. Even when we had Keane who is tougher on teh tackle than anyone we have, we were on fire attacking.

Today's performance was reminiscent of countless games last season. Nothing much has changed.

It's ok but we have City away next which we need to draw or win to make it a decent start overall.

Yeah the only bad result is the liverpool one but in fairness there wasn't a whole lot he could do. We've been unfortunate in not being able to get most the attacking players fit to give him real options there. Plus guess as well if he'd have got Fellaini in sooner than it might have made a difference but on the whole it's a fair result. Get through the next two games and hopefully he can be a bit more experimental.

Hes not good enough. He is showing no conviction. If he feels this team can challenge for the title then he. Should know Fergie goes for the win.

Moyes is still in mid table mediocrity mode where a draw is great, a win isn't the aim, its about accumulating points. Wining the title is about winning games not staying in the perm.

limiter manager, perhaps fergies biggest mistake in giving him the job.

Obvious WUM is obvious.

not going to jump to that conclusion...yet.

I'm willing to wait and see. I hope he is just being cautious for the time being.

City are looking like muck, so I'm confident we'll get something off them.

I'll be disappointed if we don't, the way they're playing at the moment. Even though it's an away match, I'd say based on form it looks like a slightly easier fixture than the Chelsea game.

Still looks and feels wrong that Moyes is Manchester United manager. The best thing he's done so far is hang on to Rooney, for now at least.

Where have you been the last 3 years? I've seen a lot of performances like today and at Anfield that have been no different

must disagree. We should have destroyed Palace...even before they got a man sent off.

Southampton at home last season United were literally hanging on for a narrow win.
Lost to Wolves 3 seasons ago. Both newly promoted clubs. What you are seeing has not just happed because of Moyes.

Ferguson always blitzed weaker teams by at least 5 goals. Moyes must be shit to have only beaten Palace by two.

Do you realise how much of a brat you sound? A solid performance, 2-0 win, and adventurous substitutions. Not really sure what else you would have wanted.

He is still too cautious for my liking. You can see we slowly change our style which is ok but we need that creativity in the final third urgently
