Newcastle fleece Liverpool for Carroll

Welbeck is a better footballer than Carroll

The number of times Ashley and the board have asked that reporter to stress 'reluctantly' it's clear it not a 'reluctant' sale at all.

Hehe

Making Carroll hand in a transfer request, and a heavy heart from the board.

Carroll = villain

Welbeck is a better footballer than Carroll

Both players have a lot to prove but I'd say carroll just shades it at the moment with the superior first team experience.

17.53: So for those keeping score, that's two men who this time last year were decentish Championship players, worth the same as - if not a little bit more than - Fernando Torres. You'll excuse us while we p*ss ourselves laughing.

17.50: Jaysus. The Guardian reckons the Adam deal could be worth £14million.

17.43: David Craig saying there has been a lot of soul-searching in the Newcastle boardroom. Quite why is unclear - they're getting probably three times the market value for a player who could go to prison. Which is something Liverpool may have forgotten.

17.27: A collection of Scouse scallies are gathering around SSN's man outside Melwood. Kenny Dalglish said he was looking for signings that the club's fans can identify with. Looking at some of those scrotes, they may have got their man in Carroll.

17.24: Liverpool have now confirmed the bid - the £35million plus add-ons bid, we assume - has been accepted and Carroll is on his way to Merseyside to have a medical/talks and whatnot.

If you think about the £35m in terms of how many meals Mike Ashley will get out of that, then Newcastle really didn't come out all that well.

Carroll has better heading ability, and is stronger. Once Welbeck is a few years older he'll catch up...

Quiet

I don't think that's fair to say really, Torres is one of the best strikers in the world, Carroll is far from that.
If he was fully fit and in form, then obviously not. But Torres has been extremely injury-prone for a couple of years now, and even when he has been fit he's been a shadow of his best. Hopefully that continues (the form anyway, not necessarily the injuries).

To be fair, they are fleecing Chelsea in turn so in a way it works out about equal for them.

Chelsea will make the Scousers sweat. This is not a done deal at 50 Million.

Considering you lot have just signed 50 million worth of dead-weight, I think the ball is in Chelsea's court.

And you reckon we are more likely to have spunked out already on those deals, all pursued and announced way later than the Torres one, than Chelsea are to have spunked out already for Torres?

SSN: 6:25

@SkySportsRachG:
Atletico Madrid have reportedly turned down Tottenham's late £13m bid for striker Diego Forlan.

If Carroll is worth 35...

we should be bidding for him too.

I'd love it.

Hope Carroll's dodgy thigh doesn't throw a spanner in the works.

Yes

feck, insanity seems to be prevailing over common sense. No chance is Carroll worth £40m, if Liverpool value him at that, they should be flogging Torres for £100m because he's at least 50 times the player Carroll is and ever will be.

City got a bargain in Dzeko by these standards. Him and Tevez together cost more or less the same figure Carroll has gone for. Sheer madness on Liverpool's part it has to be said.

Newcastle fans seem happy behind the reporter.

As would I

Well as Sultan said, it's still possible that Torres might not agree personal terms with Chelsea and if they hold out until the last minute, Liverpool would probably already have agreed terms with Carroll. If Chelsea then retract or lower their offer then Liverpool are effectively fecked.

Easy B9, Sultan's already been proven right once when you laughed at his suggestion that Torres was off and indeed chose a far more delusional scenario in which hardcore Liverpool supporter Torres was just putting pressure on Liverpool to secure the Suarez deal... and would soon come out with a statement he's staying.

That turned out well.

Chelsea have never said they have accepted Liverpool valuation.

Roman is no mug. Unlike Liverpool's negotiators.

Burning Torres shirts.

1835: Chelsea and Liverpool have agreed a fee for Fernando Torres and the player is now awaiting a medical, BBC understands.

Either party can still back out of the deal until the contract is signed, right? It's all about timing.

Sky sources say he is still waiting permission from Liverpool to talk to Chelsea.

I'm still bewildered by the Carroll signing. Is it some sort of obsession that Kenny has with unfulfilled potential and Newcastle's golden boys.

Andy Carroll, 22: A league goal every 148 minutes: £35m

Javier Hernandez, 22: A league goal every 108 minutes: £7m

Sultan was also convinced Suarez was signed as Torres' direct replacement.
