Now Pardew is trying to have a go:
I think under the circumstances Carroll had EVERY right to ask for a new improved deal.
That doesnt mean that Newcastle were in a position to give him the contract he wanted.

Keep Torres til the summer and buy Llorente for 15M euros.

Of course not. But I think he had a right to ask for it.
You think they're going to claw back ten points on us from now to May?
I said they'd be close to the title, I didn't say they'd win it. They'll be right up there in my opinion. They went through a spell of losing & drawing games, that could happen to anyone. It's quite conceivable that Chelsea will not lose again this season.
I'm not convinced that wins against Ipswitch, Blackburn and Bolton and a draw against Everton (which equates to yet another fixture for them) signfy the end of their problems.
There has clearly been problems in their squad and what's to say that having Torres in the team won't amplify these problems? After all it's Drogba, Anelka and Malouda that have been the most disappointing for them in recent months. Just because they have Torres doesn't mean they won't rely on the attacking trio anymore and whatever problems they have had will still need to be sorted.
I'm not expecting them to have the same run of form as November and December but I still see them dropping stupid points in a number of the remaining fixtures.

Anelka has been very good. Carried their forward line by himself at times.
I sometimes wonder if people on her actually watch any football.
Torres has been quality for Liverpool, if you ignore the last 18 months. You're lucky if you get 20 games a season out of him because of persistent injury, and he's probably got 4 or five years left maximum - if his hamstrings or groin don't eventually go.
Liverpool get Carroll, arguably the best young striker in the league. I bet the money they're paying isn't all upfront and they might get a decade out of him and they'll still have change from the money they got for a pissed off spaniard who's been crap all season.
Carroll could be a top player for the scousers and Suarez and Carroll will petrify defenders.
Shame we're seeing all of the other clubs spending the money.
Just searched for this thread after reading how Llambias bragged about getting 35m for Carroll.
Andy Carroll- The best young striker in the league.
That RedRover guy is weird.
Spent the whole summer saying what great signings Adam and Henderson were too.

RedRover also believed that Welbeck was not good enough for the Premier League and later that he was just good enough for likes of Wolves. He is a good guy, he should just stop talking about the potential of youngsters though
People are far too quick to be critical - this lad has a lot of potential, was excellent in the PL last season. Gave some top sides real trouble.
As I said at the time, they've clearly paid over the odds for him but I maintain that he could do well.
He spent half a season injured and has only had less than half a season to do anything so far. Its not even December yet.
It amazes me how quick people are to judge players from other sides yet we're all supposed to give United players an age to fulfil their potential. Anderson's been largely shite since we signed him yet we're all supposed to wait season afer season for him to do something.
I never said that at all. You're simiply making that up.
Notsure about Welbeck (my Sunderland season ticket holding mate doesn't rate him at all)
Rooney won't last 5 years at United on current form. Hernandez seems to have a bright future, but as for Welbeck and Macheda I'm not sure. A lot of players, if not most players who go our on loan from United in recent years don't come back.
Welbeck has looked decent for Sunderland but its a different story coming back to United and forcing your way into the team. I still suspect a decent bid from Sunderland would see him stay there. Its happened before with the likes of Shawcross even when Fergie would have liked to keep the player, but realised they'd be warming the bench.
I've said it on other threads but I'm not sure he'll ever be a United regular.
I've said it before but I think that if a good offer comes in United may be tempted to sell and invest the money elsewhere. He's played well for Sunderland and his stock is high - if he comes back and sits on the bench for 18 months that won't be the case.
Well you were not that negative but for an United fan, you were pretty unenthusiatic about talking up his chances. Some posts i have found on a quick search. Anyways it is about time I stop getting on your back about Welbeck, but I do think you are unduly pessimistic about United youngsters while being much more enthusiastic about Non-United ones.

That's a bit of a stretch - he did OK but had maybe 2 or 3 league games in which he was "excellent". Playing half of a season in the premier league, and excelling in a couple of games does not really give us any evidence that he is a top talent.
I don't think he is a bad player, and he has SOME potential (not loads in my opinion) but he is nowhere near the best young striker in the league. He isn't even close to being the best young English striker in the league. Welbeck also had injuries last season, and Sturridge barely played until he went to Bolton, but they both look light years ahead of Carroll.
It's a bit of a shame for the guy as he can't control how much he is bought for, but he will probably never live up to that price tag.
I don't think there's a great deal wrong with his quotes. He's just questioned whether Welbeck can make the step up at United.
So far, so good. But it's still early days.

Indeed. After barely half a season at Liverpool Carroll is a failure, but after ten decent games for United Welbeck has class in spades.
I don't see whats wrong with any of that.
Welbeck did well at Sunderland, and has looked decent so far in the games that he's played. Fair play to him.
I of course hope that he makes it but I'm not yet convinced. Willing runner and works his socks off, handy finisher and a great athlete. I personally still doubt whether he has the class to be preferred over Hernandez although undoubtedly he'll get games at united over the course of a season.

Quite amusing then, that after half a season you were claiming he is arguably the best young striker in the league. So, is half a season long enough to make a judgement, or not?

So, let's guess how much Liverpool will sell Carroll for in a year or two!
I say 12 mil to Aston Villa.
