agreed. but i still don't understand why choose him ahead of oshea.

Well, I wouldn't. O'Shea at LB, Phil at RB. Quinton's played very well on the left, but he's still very much a makeshift fullback and I'd rather have two with more experince in that position playing in a fairly big match like this one. Also, I think Phil is a bit better than Fortune at attacking down the flank from a defensive position.

And, like I said before, O'Shea terrorised Newcastle from the left last season, so I think he should be played there again this time.

Fergie's midfield reshuffle
Nicky Butt: out injured

Nicky Butt has been ruled out of United’s trip to Newcastle after picking up an injury whilst on England duty in midweek.

Butt will be replaced in the centre of United’s midfield by Eric Djemba-Djemba, who has settled in quickly to life at the club.

Nicky was forced off in the 26nd minute of England's 3-1 win over Croatia on Wednesday.

Another of Ferguson’s summer acquisitions, Brazilian midfielder Kleberson, will also travel with the squad to Tyneside as cover for the Reds’ central midfield duo, Djemba-Djemba and Roy Keane, and could make his Untied debut as a substitute.

Great news for Jim, he has a chance to make the position of Keanos partner his own. Now then, whats the odds on Ronaldo starting? Since seeing him last saturday this has been the longest week of the year, I want to see him play again  .

I go with:

------------------Howard---------------------

Gaz/Phil-------Rio---------Silvestre-----O'Shea

Ole---------Keane--------Djembax2-------Giggs

-----------------Scholes----------------------

--------------------Ruud---------------------

Bench: Carroll/Barthez, Gaz/Phil/Fortune, Ronaldo, Kleberson, Forlan.

Lots of attacking options plus strong bench.

Only Fergie knows if Gaz will start, if he does then either Fortune or Phil has to make way.

If Butt is out for a few matches or longer, I think his time at OT might be done especially if Djemba and Kleberson perform as expected and with Fortune and Phil capable of playing the same role as Butt (and better), he might be on his way out next summer.

I wouldn't be so certain... I can see where you're coming from but players with Butt's experience, especially in the CL, are rare, and I'd be happy to have him in the squad for life.

When Butt is reduced to playing reserve team and WC matches with a rare first team appearance, does anyone think he'll be happy at OT? I don't think so. He could walk into the majority of starting XI lineups in the PL.

You may be right but I suspect he'll stick around and be challenging for a place, especially when Keano retires in a couple of years ( :nervous: ).

Butt was the mut's nuts coming off the World Cup and if he hadn't been injured (playing for England? In a friendly? Sounds familiar? ) he was widely tipped to have his best season ever, esp with Keano missing for so much of it.

i predict djemba, ronaldo and o'shea to score their first goal for the club ;)

Dude, that would be awesome! If anybody deserves a goal during their tenure at United, it's John O'Shea!

Newcastle will be without Woodgate and Bellamy.

Don't bank on it -there is talk in the local papers here that Bellamy has a knee problem and Woody has not recovered from a stomach problem as well as hoped for but I got the impression it might all be a smokescreen.

Might not though as well ;)

I am looking forward to going to the game and seeing Ronaldo and Djemba.

Hope those that are making the trek up here have a good day.

Looking back at last season, United scored 23% of the total goals conceded by Newcastle in the League. An amazing statistic, and you can get odds of 100/1 on United winning 6-2 again. Think i'll have a flutter.

Sorry mate - neither are in the squad!!

That's Woody and Bellsy not Djemby and Ronny. :nervous: ;)

I see that not only is Rennie the ref but Jeff Bastard Winter is the 4th official.

I hate Winter.

Rennie, eh? What are the odds on both captains sent off after five minutes? ;)

Hate, hate, hate Rennie! Why would he be put in charge of such a massive game. It's well-documented that many players have a grudge against him, and he'll probably be determined to make sure the game doesn't flow, and impose his headmaster "look at me I do kickboxing" style on the players who just want to have fun.

I don't hate Winter, he's just a wanker. (Starting to sound like Mark Renton from Trainspotting!) We have our game colonised by a wanker! ;)

Watched Leeds/Newcastle and I must say NU looked very ordinary. Leeds should have won the game. Now that two of their best players are out, it would seem the perfect time to play them specially at St James. But I feel that they are gonna play this one like a cup final and try to avenge their latest defeats.

My prediction: 2-2. Rio to get his first Man Utd goal.

I agree 100%. NICKY BUTT is a true red. To just get rid of him is insane. I can't understand this way of thinking. Does loyalty mean nothing? Does everyone forget how well he played in the world cup last year? If we are going to truely compete on three or four fronts, this season and in seasons to come, we need NICKY to provide quality and depth. For people to suggest that we just get rid of him is very upsetting to me and makes no sense. I am curious about what other TRUE RED FANS think of this situation. I can not even imagine what he would look like in another shirt. NICKY BUTT should be a RED DEVIL for life. IMO.

I'd go the same, although I think Giggs and Scholes will be swapped around.

The thing is, if Djemba x2 and Kleb prove to be better players than him, he might not settle for being 4th choice. Add to that Phil and Fortune both performing admirably in that position last season, and O'Shea being an option, he may be seeing the end of the red and white brick road.

But if he is happy staying here and providing depth, than keep him for sure.

Anyway, who cares about the game.

It's the prospect of watching Ronaldo that's exciting.

Team:

Howard Djemba
Phizza Djemba Rio Micky O'Shea
Keane Djemba
Ole Djemba Scholes
Giggs Djemba
Ruud Djemba

:wenger: What a load of Djembas!

Reading between the lines I suppose it's O'Shea for Fortune and one of our many Djembas instead of Butt.

Official teams:

Newcastle: Given; Griffin, Bramble, O'Brien, Hughes; Bowyer, Dyer, Speed, Robert; Shearer, Ameobi.
Subs: Harper, Bernard, Jenas, Chopra, Viana.

Manchester United: Howard; P Neville, Ferdinand, Silvestre, O'Shea; Solskjaer, Keane, Djemba-Djemba, Scholes; Giggs; Van Nistelrooy.
Subs: Carroll, Kleberson, Ronaldo, Fletcher, Forlan.
