Neymar Jr | PSG | 2017/2018 performances

I think emotionally that was completely undermined by how they bottled it in Barcelona

That's the problem with emotions, they sometimes make you lose sights of things. The reality is that PSG without Neymar were able to batter Barcelona and they added Mbappé. Selling Neymar would be bad from PR standpoint but PSG could easily be better off without him and with a better allocation of their resources.

Yeah that's true. Big part of football is those intangibles though. Isn't that the whole point?

PSG were able to batter Barca. They were also able to perform one of the worst bottlejobs I've ever seen. Talented, but mentally weak.

PSG will never let him go to Madrid. It would mean a massive loss of face, and the Sheiks won't have it.

And you think that Neymar changes that? Because I don't, also my initial post was just meant to give a fairer picture, otherwise you would think that PSG were hopeless without Neymar which is completely wrong.

No I don't think they're hopeless! Far from it.

Sorry if you thought i was implying that or even outright disagreeing that PSG are also capable of hammering a team without Neymar. But there were two legs of that tie and I think one of them carries a lot more weight than the other.

And yeah i think Neymar could strengthen a team's resolve. He could also blow up a dressing room! But I think he's a winner, and when the chips are down having a superstar like that, especially when he's the one who caused your most defining collapse, can improve a team's psyche and mindset.

@giorno
Because he'll be 26 next year and has already made a move for the money. He hasn't half the of drive that Ronaldo has, he would never run back to Spain after 1 year like this.
Neymar thought he could run things in France but he has Cavani standing up to him while bawling his eyes out in press conferences.
He will be under 10x more pressure at Madrid.
He'll be at City by the time he's 29 imo.

I think Neymar is very strong mentally. He was the only Barcelona player still driving forward during their 6-1 comeback when it was 3-1 and all hope looked lost.

That said, it's hard for 1 person to change the mentally of others.

I hope he does move to Real. He should be playing in a better league, and El Clasico would be incredible to watch.

There is one thing i just don't get, Neymar moved to PSG to escape Messi's shadow and now he is supposed to go to Real Madrid? I guess literally the only way he ends up there involves getting rid of Ronaldo one way or the other, there is just zero chance of them coexisting together.

PSG won't budge, money means nothing to them. Only possible way would be some sort of a secret clause, but it seems their negotiator would have to be borderline moronic to even entertain the thought of including it.

He should have stayed at Barcelona, he'd be considered the main man soon enough with Messi inevitably dropping off at some point, i guess the pile of cash was just too huge to refuse.

Lost his chance at being a Barca club legend by going to PSG. I'm no Barca fan but still can't believe he left. (I know it was for a shite ton of money)

I'm fairly sure none of this is true to begin with, but even if it was, Neymar is not going anywhere for a long time. Madrid are insufferable cnuts that will start any rumors possible to mess with players and clubs, and it's going to get turned up even more since they're matched up with PSG now in the CL.

I guess being the diva that he is, he wouldn't like the English weather.. So at least that's good.. Or else I would have feared Man City signing him.

A good compromise:

- Neymar joining Real Madrid
- Cristiano Ronaldo joining Barcelona
- Messi joining PSG

Everybody will have his share of GOATs

What a goal from Neymar today lol

and a reverse of the goal above for the second. No way will PSG sell to Real.

Neymar-Mbappé

To think they were supposed to be ours :(:(:(

I need a hug

2 goals and 2 assists today. Not too bad

For all the talk around how this transfer was going to have an enormous effect on French league in terms of attracting viewers and expanding the worldwide brand and changing the landscape, I don't think it had the desired impact, especially with no internal competition that would strike your interest. Neymar probably realising this himself at the moment as he vanished into the irrelevance outside of France and naturally Brazil.

How many more times you guys tuned in to watch PSG games this season apart from early hype than you did last year? Doubt the numbers would be anyhow substantial.

More transfer, locker room bust-up and leaving to Brazil for a party headlines than actual on-the pitch performances. Scored 9 league goals last season at Barca and is the 6th best scorer in France right now, behind Balotelli. Last time he actually performed great was in winter 2015. Wait until PSG get pummeled by Madrid and the early season excitement of escaping Messi's shadow and being the big boy vanishes and he is welcomed to the real world.

Quote me on it, in 2 years he is irrelevant.
Not his fault people chose to focus on off the field matters. 13 games, 11 goals, and 9 assists is a ridiculous league return. 6 games, 6 goals and 4 assists the CL. How is he not playing well?

The next Ballon D'or winner that isn't Messi will be Neymar

Among the top scorers in the league 1 only Balotelli will take less minutes to score a goal so far.
But Balotelli has 0 assists and Neymar 09.
Majority of the top scorers played two, three games more than Neymar.
Hes operating part of time as a "todocampista", a 10, and not a wide striker.

Unfortunately for Neymar, everything he does now is tinted with the league he's in.

Meh, couldn't score that many in the Premier League.

He’d get 25 league goals in the premier league if he played every week. The defending in England is piss poor too.

@Eddy_JukeZ

No question. He does it all and his record in the bigger games and Champions League is impressive too.

He is taking the piss out of Ligue 1 defenders. Such a wonderful player.
Best players do it in the best league and +/- a WC / EC / GO. Neymar can score 50 goals in the French league and can guarantee you Messi scores 30 in the Spanish and both get to the semis of the wc neymar won't get a sniff at the ballon. Get him back to la Liga or pl and we'll see what he doed

He would do anywhere near as well. His productivity in terms of goals and assist per game has almost doubled compared to his last season in Spain. Ibra and Lacazette’s goalscoring productivity more than halved in the PL. Even Baloteli nearly averages a goal and game in the French league.

Neymar stats in the French league are simply absurd.

Neymar will certainly win the Ballon Dor when PSG wins the UCL, which I think is quite likely should they beat Real Madrid. Well unless Messi wins the World Cup.

He would tear up the EPL and would easily get 20+ goals in a City or even a Liverpool team. No question imo.

He might not manage a goal a game, but he’d be up at the top of the scoring charts in the Premier League.
Bit unfair to compare Neymar to Balotelli, who I don’t think Rodgers wanted, and a 35 year old Ibrahimovic (who still got 17 league goals and easily could’ve had at least 5 more).

Neymar would be the best player in the PL for sure.

That said, the comparisons show that it is easier to score goals in France. The French league is usually ranked the 5th best in the UEFA coefficients too, 4th this year so far due to the abysmal performance of the German sides. It’s just a weaker league than the elite.

Neymar is not really a great goal scorer but he would get around 15-20 league goals IMO in EPL.

He scored 13 goals last season for Barca. I don't even know how it's possible to score 13 goals alongside Messi, Iniesta and Suarez as a world class player.

Suarez was said to be finished at the beginning of this season and he has 13 goals now halfway through the season.

Can't take the French league seriously at all. No doubt even this crisis mode Real Madrid will knock PSG out.

He’d score 30 in the prem.

Look at how many Sanchez scores. Neymar no doubt is the superior player.

Neymar's low goal tally was because his finishing was horrific last season for some reason. His all-around play was excellent, but his finishing was atrocious.

Seems it's somewhat normalized this season.
