I think he has some balls, like he was actually giving it a go second half. I do think Neymar will end up being an excellent player, but there are more than a few parallels with Robinho.

I've always said the lad is overrated, the most overrated player I can ever remember actually.
Like other posters have said, every time I see him playing competitive football on a world level he doesnt seem all that. Didnt watch the game tonight but he was distinctly average during the Olympics for me and seemed more concerned with trying fancy flicks/skills and actually using the ball to good effect.

The overrated, and can't do it against England/Europe. Much along the lines of the total drivel aimed towards Ibrahimovic over the years.
It's not drivel though. I've watched him in practically every competition he's been in all the way from the u20 South American Championship to the Copa Libertadores to the Copa America. There's something wholly unconvincing about him.
The physical aspect of the game this side of the world might take him a while to get used to when he finally makes the move. He looks like a quality player though and he looks like a lad that has the right attitude.
Still waiting to see what all the Hype is about Neymar .
I haven't seen him have a good game to be honest. I don't watch the Brazilian league so I have no idea about his weekly form (other than the impressive Youtube videos that get posted) but from what Iv seen so far he's not lived up to the hype.
Fair enough, especially if you have watched him that much. I have seen him play regularly and I think he's supremely talented. While he's erratic, he has improved season after season and he is scoring prolifically. It is more aimed at the people who will have watched him a handful of times who will just go along with what the British media will say. He's only 21, with over 200 club games and a very good record at international level. He will be a star.
I hate this very good record at international level nonsense myself. He has 2 goals for Brazil in competitive games. Generally he's scored in friendlies against mediocre teams.
I've not seen enough of him to give a definitive opinion, but what I have seen leads me to believe that people think he's the second coming because he likes stepovers and flicks and tricks. In terms of game intelligence even being compared to Messi or Ronaldo seems extraordinarily generous.

Yeah, because he didn't score against England/English team he is overrated. It isn't the be all of football. He scores goals and wins titles wherever he goes. Shockingly overrated.
And that completely disproves my point? Does it feck. There's examples of Henry and Ronaldo making such ridiculous choices too in certain games, it's a result of their confidence that they try outrageous things. In terms of how Neymar sees the game, he sees it very well.
In all bar one or two of those he was in the team head and shoulders above the rest of the league. He's scored something like 1 goal in 16 games in the CL knockout stages, and most of his competitive international goals come against smaller teams and/or in friendlies.
I still think he's a wonderful player and would improve pretty much any team, but the criticisms aren't exactly baseless. And anyway, the thread's not even about Ibra so there's a place to discuss the pros and cons of that.
He needs to leave Brazil asap imo, Oscar looked so much better tonight and no doubt the move to the Premier League has added abit more edge and strength to his game.
I actually don't see how people can rate Oscar so highly, when he displays the same of the so called flaws that Neymar has, and then claim the latter is overrated. Inconsistent end product and taking too much on.

If you haven't done it in Europe yet and have a difficult night at Wembley, you're obviously never going to make it.

Or alternatively, the fact you scored a few goals in the Rio state Championship doesn't automatically mean you're Messi, Ronaldo (both of them in fact) Zidane and Ronaldinho all rolled into one...

True, his NT record is far from representative... In international competition in general (also club) he's been more underwhelming than he has shone.
I also remember him being subject to the best man-marking job I've seen in the past decade, courtesy of the young Vélez right-back Gino Peruzzi (a couple of months younger than Neymar; 19 years old at the time of the tie) who completely curtailed him in every step over the two legs of the Libertadores quarter-final, I think. He must have dispossesed Neymar a couple of dozen times per game at least; it was so bad that the latter blatantly elbowed him in the face at one point.
And the reason why, however good he is, Ibrahimovic isn't rated as one of the truly greatest players ever on a par with Mess & Ronaldo.
Interesting you should bring him up though, since the latest "proof" of the true quality he should be judged was in a friendly, against England.
He is ridiculously overrated, that one at least rings true. For a kid who has scored a few goals in the Brazilian league and just turned 21 the hype is mind boggling. Yes he is talented, but he is not even close to the player some people like to make out. At least not yet.

So am I. The hype should be backed up with some reality. Hopefully, Neymar isn't just another Freddy Adu.
It's been said over and over that he should move to Europe to properly develop his game and I agree with that.I see a lot of potential in him, some great trickery but between the Brazilian league/ Copa Libertadores levels and Champions League level there is a big gulf.
