North Korea

Whether the US has lost some strategic initiative or whatever is far less important than the fact that a very deadly war (for people of both Koreas) is now less likely.

Many don’t see it that way. Trump arbitrarily drew a line in the sand by stating that there would be no more ‘war games.’ When we undoubtedly resume Foal Eagle, etc., that will give NK a tangible gripe, something about which to push back, and a pretext to potentially resume testing.

Its been reported in North Korea. Haven't seen it elsewhere yet.
Okay.

Would quite like it to be true. It would be further incentive for North Korea for things to remain positive for the time being.

Just hope those clowns in Congress won't allow him to address them. Let's not forget the atrocities of the regime FFS. Tho it might make for some good political ammunition for the Dems.

This is looking more and more like a reality show spectacle that Trump and Kim can leverage for domestic consumption. Kim has gotten far and away the better deal here by way of recognition by a US President, an easing of tensions with the US, with no concessions of his own that previous North Korean leaders haven't already made and renegged on over the years. The Art of the Deal.

It was mentioned in passing on BBC that both had invited the other to their country and both had accepted. Whether it actually happens is another thing.

Is no one here going to mention the fact that trump said it would be a nice place for some beach condos. If trump discussed beach front property during this summit it makes a mockery of the seriousness of denuclearization. He also mentioned that if he was wrong about his crush he wouldn't admit it and just make something up, blatantly fecking with us. He also spoke about this regime and the treatment of the NK people like he did with the Charlottesville nazi march.
All the ball licking from the trumpskis today was nauseating and yet any pass he gets for this (pointless) meeting is screwed up by his own fat stupid gob.
I get the feeling Kim doesn't give a feck either as this is just too easy. He gets a seat at the table and dictates what he wants while the victory in trump's mind is he got to sign his name in thick black marker so it stands out over the adult pen used by Kim. The words used by trump towards Trudeau compared to the ones used for Kim over the last couple of days is a massive indicator of the direction the US is taking with these idiots at the helm. It will be funny though, watching him and his wife or daughter wife being taken for a walk around one of those fake NK department stores, "this could be us folks, if only Amazon would stop stealing from our stores we could have these beautiful, really beautiful folks, fantastic trench coats and minks, Minks, it's terrible how the PTT treats us".

Okay.

Incentive for "things to remain positive"? How about incentives for specific, measurable concessions? That's how negotiations are supposed to work.

If Trump wants to offer incentives for that, I'm all for it. Such incentives would obviously have to be specific and measurable themselves, though, and I'm not sure we're there just yet.

As if Trump was capable of a deal in which both sides make reasonable and practical concessions

The transcript @roseguy64 posted illustrates the problem.

We lose eight hundred and seventeen billion dollars was the last count on a yearly basis. Think of it, George. In other words, when you add China and all of the other places, Germany, the European Union is a disaster for us. We lost a hundred and fifty one billion dollars last year. Billion, not not million.

The dude can't even stick with 1 figure in 2 sentences. The next time someone mentions Kim to him he better also mention 'denuke' or the Donald will be thinking of condos.

TBF if Trump can get North Korea to open up their country to outside investment in the manner that China did in the 80s then it'll be dynamite.

North Korea is nowhere near the size of China to be able to control such investment once it starts flooding in, nor will they likely be inclined to with the positive benefits they will experience.

Everyone says China will be the big profiteers but far more likely North Korea will become South Korea 2.0 due to cultural similarities.

It will be good if they open up and stop oppressing their people but a lot of it would be on China's terms.

The worrying thing is that Trump is going to pretend it's not true, just so he doesn't look bad.

That sequence with Trump saying the Korean Peninsula will be nuclear free then backtracking by the administration had me thinking of the US need for a bogeyman.

They should keep their nuclear heads. The eugenic ideology is getting stronger in the United States and some european nuclear powers. Those countries are a potential threat to the existence of a big part of the humanity. Every country from Latin America, Africa and Asia should build a nuclear arsenal as form of protection.

Glorious Leader knows how to take a joke.

"One diplomatic source said, "The 'Rocket Man' CD was the subject of discussion during Trump's lunch with Kim. Kim mentioned that Trump referred to him as 'rocket man' when tensions ran high last year. Trump then asked Kim if he knew the song and Kim said no."
