Oh feck off. We're run by idiots. feck off.
Guardiola hype is as ridiculous and overblown as ever.
This will be the first genuine challenge in his managerial career.
He's one of the few top managers that actually gives youth players opportunities. The way the schedule is in England, that's more of an incentive to use youngsters here and there. It's also safe to say that no other manager would've promoted Busquets and bench Yaya at that expense in his first year. Messi playing as a false nine is also a revolutionary move that made Leo jump to extraordinary levels.
I remember a coach describing one of the differences with Pep was courage, he is not afraid to take those sort of risks of giving youth players a shot. If there is quality in that youth academy, Pep will identify them and use them. But it's true, in 3 years it's hard to make that much of an impact. However, if there is one place he could change his 3 year plan it might just be City where he has everything he didn't at the end with Barcelona - food for thought
Well given how much of a badly kept secret it was, it doesn't change much. Players should be hungry to win things, and effectively they're on trial for Pep already - he'll shake the squad up and there'll be some damage to the existing squad. I don't mind that it's out in the open. How do you feel about this being announced now? City are still competing for four trophies but now the players know they get a fresh start next season. I know they will still want to win but I don't see how this announcement helps Pellegrini for the games he has left.
It is a real shame about him. Hopefully he will get a good job.More concerned about Pelligrini .Really nice guy who as not done much wrong treated shabbily by citeh.
As true as that is in regards to him willing to push through youth, England is a totally different kettle of fish and it all boils down to the simple fact the chances of players coming through at city being of the same calibre of the ones that came through at Barcelona are non existent.
Nobody of note has come through in his three years at Bayern and that's despite the fact Bayern have walked the league for three seasons, there's been plenty of openings.
It's not a slant on him, he can't really do too much about the talent coming through but I think people need to reel it in a bit when they heap the praise on him and suggest suddenly City are going to have all these academy products terrorising Europe in two years. It's not going to happen.
He's a grown man that took the job full in the knowledge of what they were like. In fact I'm pretty sure they were talking to him behind Mancini's back, too.More concerned about Pelligrini .Really nice guy who as not done much wrong treated shabbily by citeh.
This. I don't think he will hit the ground running at all.Sod it, he will find the same struggle Van Gaal has with this league anyway.

Reports say that hes fine with it as he knew city wanted Pep before he even went to cityMore concerned about Pelligrini .Really nice guy who as not done much wrong treated shabbily by citeh.
I agree with this, it's a bit ridiculous really.

He might still fail but finish comfortably ahead of us.I'm just thinking it'd be funny if we're having our mini-meltdown on the bald fecker Pep - and then he comes in and - shock horror - fails. Anything is possible in sport, and it will be a challenge for him not being a part of a league that has only two or three challengers and where anyone can beat you on a given day. Plus, I reckon he won't get along with our press people. He's quite prickly, so it will be interesting to see how he deals with all that nonsense.
In any case, we will see....
Pep is boring as feck in his managerial choices so far. Bayern and Man City, two clubs which you're basically guaranteed a trophy with.
People laughed when I suggested
*drones on forever* See? City's unearned wealth has the potential to totally alter the future history of the top-level English game. Without that money (for Pep's salary, for massive transfer-spending etc), Guardiola - commonly regarded as the world's best manager - wouldn't be going there. Utterly unfair to us and other clubs.
If owners like that didn't come in though then the status quo would largely stay exactly the same now. It's incredibly hard now to rise up without rich investors (even Leicester have been well funded) and the reality is we have a huge advantage in terms of our history in that we can whore ourselves to every two-bob sponsor. Of course Guardiola wouldn't have gone their if they didn't have the money and squad that they've been able to build in recent years but it's not like they're significantly wealthier than us. We've clearly got huge structural problems that have led us to a club run by Ed Woodward, a pretty mediocre squad and a manager that nearly everyone wants gone. If we'd run ourselves properly and looked like an attractive proposition, I believe Guardiola would have picked us as the more romantic club with greater tradition. It's not unfair, it's our own ineptitude that meant we gave up on getting him without seemingly ever being a serious contender.
Oh, it is unfair. But then, it's Britain, where everything's for sale...even if one's wealth is stolen.
I didn't laugh at you Steve, but disagreed. Rory is right IMO and your argument is a bit flawed in a world where United basically started with signing players for big fees. We are as much part of the business that is modern football as the other big clubs and taking the moral high ground in this matter is just wrong in my eyes and out of character for you. We have a sponsor for everything and we milk our fans for every penny they have, just because we were a bit quicker than the rest of Europe in terms of commercial revenue and also a bit better than most, doesn't make us more deserving than City. And like Rory said, if we handled Ferguson's retirement better, Guardiola would be joining us and not them.
Sky were on it within 10 minutes of the press release. How long until they start talking about Messi?

I'm hopeful this move will finally shut up the "Pep is overrated" camp. Since they're mostly PL fans, they'll see how different City will be than before. I'm not even talking about silverware.
