If you read @VJ1762's original post you would see he was saying that Ingrid said 'Ola' (Ool-a in English) instead of 'Ole' (Oh-lly in English). Ingrid said the first one, which translates to Ole in Norwegian.

That's all he asked about. He wanted to know how Norwegians pronounce the name (broken down in English, because he himself broke it down in English), not broken down in Norwegian because that's totally irrelevant for a non-Norwegian speaker.

That's me done in this discussion. Hope he got his answer.

Nah, you’re interpreting his post wrong.

Every man and his dog knows how the name is pronounced in English because we hear it all the time through the media. It would make no sense to ask a Norwegian how the name is pronounced in English - it would only be interesting for him to know how the name is pronounced in native Norwegian because that would be brand new information to him.

He definitely did get an answer. Several good ones!

Certainly I do realize this, of course such things are usually being taken care of in pre-season training. Still, what I was pointing out at is that there are obvious things that may be improved in the team via specific training (I.e. coaching work)

I've not seen OGS do enough on the youth front yet.

I'm grateful thst he gave Perreira a chance (twice), occasionally gives Mctom mins (though it feels less than Jose) and has involved players in 1st team training. After that it's a poor record ae we've only seen a half's worth of mins handed out to new academy players. This is despite their very promising talent and senior players being generally underwhelming when selected (Lukaku, Mata)

If OGS is serious about United's legacy of youth, then i expect him to do more in this area, particularly with the squad rotation needed over the next month. Otherwise, I fear for some of our youth prospects as the standard currently being set is age + mediocrity = gametime.

He missed a great opportunity v Fulham to have new youth involved from the bench and I'm scratching my head wondering if and when they will get a chance.

I’m from London, but I live in Manchester.

Like I said, I’m not necessarily against the appointment, I’m questioning the supposed “thorough search”, considering that according to that report it’s already decided, but at this point, let’s just see what happens
 
I would wait til April before deciding. But then again, Poch wont be available anyway, Ole looks the best bet then.

I agree to a point, but I think it's a bit soon to say he's not introducing youth players. Given the position he started in and the number of points behind the top 4 we were, I think his first job was to close that gap if possible. That means playing your best team every week and winning all your games really. I think we've all been surprised by how quickly that gap has been closed to nothing. He probably thought it would take until at least 30-35 games to be in and amongst Chelsea and Arsenal. If he stays here and gets to start next season on a level playing field he will be more inclined to play more young players I hope.

Molde was practically a talent farm in his tenure there. He bought and developed talent and sold them on as they had success. I don't think you need to worry about that aspect.

The only two clubs that might be bigger are Madrid and Barcelona, and even then the difference is small.

United is a huge club. Yeah there are a few others that have had more recent success, but they are nowhere near us in terms of global following and history (and not ancient history like Liverpool).

He’s also given Chong and Gomes minutes, and the kids are regularly in the match day squad.

It’s kind of weird to have this as a sticking point. Ole came in when we were down and out, and we desperately needed to gain some momentum. He’a done fine as far as including youth goes, and there’s no reason to think he won’t take that part of the job seriously.

Inshoukd have said that I'm very happy with OGS and I'm probably looking for perfection. My view is that I see the young players as an advancement rather than a temporary hinderence - Mata and Lukaku have not been good enough (even as rotation options) and i think the likes of Greenwood, Chong and Gomes could offer more

Appreciate the last sentence is wishful thinking, but games like Fulham are the times to play them. We effectively best them with 10 players given how two players disappeared for large portions of the match

The mins I was referring to were Ching and Gomes. Garner could have potentially got mins v Reading, but Sanchez getting a niggle potential scuppered those plans

Develop youth is one of the main reasons I love United, particularly Busby's 2nd team of the mid to late 50s. Also I'm a believer in merit and I think some senior squad members have blown their opportunities and should go to the back of the line, while youngsters get their chance. Just think OGS should be doing more in this area

It's nuts to have it as a sticking point. A 21 years old is starting instead of a 75m and 200k+/week striker. A 23 years old is starting instead of a 450k/week player. Dalot is starting many games, McTominay and Perreria got minutes, as did Gomes and Chong. All of this while we were chasing an incredibly difficult battle (11 points behind the fourth place).

We were just fortunate with having SAF who kept us away from managerial changes for a long time so we were kept away from having many stinkers.

Still Madrid job is definitely the job any manager will consider it the peak of his career to get it imo.

Can't see what's the problem with us trying to explain how his name is pronounced, why on earth should we explain to Brits how it's pronounced in English?

Haven't seen where Ingrid (whoever she is) says Ola.

Which is exactly why it is a bigger job.
There is no way to know what managers would consider as the peak considering that Real actually haven't got any manner at their peak apart from maybe Mourinho, most of the other were either part their peak or too green, especially after DelBosque
 
Yes just read the BBC article and demonstrates to me that Ole is the right fit. The best manager in the world is not always the best fit and the best fit at the biggest club in the world surely has the potential to become the best manager in the world.

We're definitely third behind those two. There's no might about it.

If we start winning trophies both domestic and abroad and attracting big players again then we'll be closer to those two but honestly I don't see us ever being bigger than them in true terms.

Subjective though of course.

Barcelona are not bigger than United, Real is the only club ahead.
 
The best thing Ole has done for me personally is made me enjoy watching Manchester United again. Under the miserable one watching us felt like a chore and it just had a negative impact on my day because of how dire we had been to watch. Now i actually enjoy watching games again without feeling like i'm going to be bored out of my mind or just depressed. Hes made me really look forward to the PSG clash instead of dreading it.

I still feel we need to see what happen's in the next month but i wouldn't feel bad if he was given the job on what he has done already just in terms of how it feels to be a supporter and watch United again.

To be fair, virtually NOBODY had performed all that well under Mourinho this season, so it makes total sense for Ole to give Sanchez and others their chances, rather than opting to replace them with youth.

I think very few people would consider your standards for what constitutes giving youngsters their chance to be fair. We’re going to have to agree to disagree on this one.

But is it any more desirable than say, Chelsea, PSG, or City? That's what I'm trying to get at. Utd gives them the best of both worlds - patience to implement what they need/want; and a budget that can blow most clubs out of the water.

The generally long-term nature of the role at Utd means that it doesn't come up often, but when it does, it would interest everyone.

Think of the world and then think who'd rather play in Spain versus who'd rather play in England, plus the glamour aspect of both Real and Barca and I suspect you'll realise we're third. Those people who grow up dreaming of playing for x and y would pick Barca or Real over us unless they're from the UK, Ireland or Northern Europe. Sure we have plenty of fans in Asia but so does every big club nowadays. We had more back in the day but many of them have switched over to whoever is successful now.

We're close to the big two due to the advantage the club gained during the boom period of the early Premier League years as we were absolutely at the top of the game commercially and we were captialising on the success of the squad at the time to go into emerging markets. The money from the league and the television revenue from it helped us grow 'fans' around the world but Barca and Real never needed that.

Historically we're close in terms of romance with the Babes and George Best but aside from that, our location holds us back. Not many people really wanna live and work in Manchester and the surrounding area if they're from anywhere that doesn't rain a lot.
 
Manchesters bad weather is hugely exaggerated.
 
Ole doenst seem to have an ego, which makes me believe we can set up the club differently and more professional for next season. I'm confident he would support different structures if it is beneficial for the club.

However, let's wait with the announcement until the summer
 
If he beat PSG over two legs, Chelsea, and Liverpool I'm Ole in too.
