Regardless of the Lingard naïveté, I think it says a lot that we kept Liverpool to a comfortable clean sheet despite the chaotic situation. Just a shame we were so blunt up the other end.

The board would have realised in all certainty that the fans want him appointed though. People won’t stop singing his name. I reckon a good win today would have essentially secured it, but he probably is not quite there yet. We’ve still not beaten a top side at home with him yet, failing to score even, and top 4 is still probably odds against. Just needs to keep going.

I'm really happy you're not managing United. If you did, we'd have lost and Rashford had aggravated his injury. Putting him on the flank to do tracking back while injured blows my mind.
 
Well done, unbeaten in the league since he took over and one of the draws being against Liverpool who were thought be the champions already. Was expecting us to get beaten after the injuries.

Lingard wouldn't have been on the bench if he was too injured to play.

I’m not denying he wasn’t passed fit to play a role, but that role wasn’t 70 minutes, with one sub already down and Rashford clearly carrying something throughout the game. It was an unnecessary risk and we got burnt.
 
I was unfortunate to miss the game but everyone seems to be talking about the Lingard sub.
Without simplifying it ,as Lingard was chosen as a sub option surely indicates he was fit enough to feature at some point ,no ?

he made one mistake today in bringing Lingard on. Andreas for Herrera was ok but after Mata pulled up it should've been Fred/Alexis. rashford was already limpiing before that and we couldve used the next sub to bring hin off. that was a waste of a sub in the end but I can't complain about anything else.

they can give him the job already. We actually outplayed title contending team with 4/5 players out and basically 10 men for half. If that isn't enough nothing will be.

let's get real lads - we were hit with injuries (apart from jlingz - dont know why he was even on the bench), we played and saw out a goal-less. I would have taken a point any day of the year this season. it was a gamble, it didn't pay off - live with it. onwards and upwards. once we lost them players, i see this as a point gained rather than 2 lost. GGMU!

Did well to get us a point in the game. We never looked like losing the game despite all the adversity. The team is showing real confidence under him, which is a welcome change after the last 5 1/2 years. However, that Lingard sub was an atrocious decision that should never have been made. We were lucky that Rashford soldiered on and played the full 90, or we could have been left with 10 players in the second half.

I think this will be a good test for him now. We have 4 games in quick succession and then the Wolves game before the international break. He said in the pre-game that Matic will be out for weeks, and looks like it'll be the same for Lingard and Herrera. It'll be a real challenge for him to manage us with this injury situation and keep the wins coming for a top 4 spot. The results in the next five games will define our season.
 
This man has brought our pride back. No more are we worrying what this or that team is going to do, it’s all about us. He wins today under these circumstances, and this place would be giving him the job one hundred times over. But to come out if that situation with Liverpool scratching their heads, De Gea hardly tested and us looking more threatening is still a win for us.
 
He criticism Ole is getting for his subs a no win situation for him. There just isn't the personal on the bench to give him suitable options. Against PSG everyone ripped up that conditional offer for the full time job for not bringing on Lukaku, despite Lukaku's every touch being criticised (rightly so) when he does play. And today he's got the choice of bringing on Lingard, who is injured but might actually do something, or Sanchez who he knows absolutely won't. It backfired but it was worth it risk.

For me, Sanchez should've started given the options available and Sanchez' performance in the Chelsea game.

Then his decision to put Lingard on instead of Sanchez in the first instance is (albeit in hindsight) a proven mistake.

And we're now without Lingard for important matches.

This was a mistake, to suggest otherwise is bordering on the delusional.

Relieved at the point, impressed with the players grit, deeply impressed with OGS job as interim, still on the fence of whether or not he should get the job full-time.
 
I guess he wasn't fecking woeful, which is good I think?

Criticising him for the Lingard substitution is absolutely fine (I agree entirely) but to then say he deserves no credit for the result because of that is a bit much. He made a mistake but he also has a lot of other things working well, which led to the good performance. One doesn't erase the other.
 
Even though we didn't win, the point was enough to give Ole the record for most points from his first 10 PL games in charge of any manager in PL history, 26/30. Guardiola got 25 in the first 10 games of 16/17.

Rashford was injured. He stayed uptop to not have to track back I should imagine. I agree with Ole there, hardly a mistake.

Maybe Lingard should have admitted he wasn’t fit. If somebody tells you you’re fine to play when you aren’t, how is that the managers fault? If anything we should be angry at Lingard for putting us in a worse situation.

The blame game is an easy thing.
 
It seems Lingard coming on at any stage of the game would've been a mistake. He just wasntw ready.

Imagine Sanchez on for Mata and then at HT Lingard on for Rashford. We would be royally f***ed if Lingard lasted 15 minutes and we had to play 30 with 10 men.

The other choice was not to use Lingard at all, but then he shouldn't have even be on the bench in the first place.

And that was as solid as a performance one could've wished for considering the circumstances. I think we were the better team. Could've nicked a win. Liverpool offered nothing. Credit to the players and Ole.

He could have but, on the other hand, the 4312 was a sound choice in the first place because it limited the chances of Firmino becoming the extra man for Liverpool in the spaces between the lines. And this is one of Klopp's' biggest weapons, Firmino coming deep to receive the ball and then find Mane/Salah into space Given the fact that we had a young lad screening the back-four and we lost Herrera early on and also judging by the fact that Firmino/Sturridge failed to have any kind of impact in the game, this is not something to beat Ole with.

As for Lingard coming on despite not being fully fit, i think that he probably thought that with Rash carrying a knock, he needed to at least have one player on the pitch with the ability to work the spaces in the final third. And it nearly paid off, the only proper chance we created in the box was a product of Lingard's off the ball movement. But yeah, in the end, it cost us a sub and Ole should receive some criticism for it.

Anyway, to be human is to err. As long as what i see on the pitch makes sense to me, i'm fine with a few costly decisions. And the manager's job is difficult exactly because of that: He has to make some big calls quite often.

Had Lingard's chance gone in and won us the three points, and then he got injured, I doubt this post would have been made.

The Lingard sub didn’t work out but he wanted to go for it with a Rashford-Lukaku-Lingard counter attack, Sanchez offers nothing sadly especially if he was asked to play Mata’s role behind the strikers.
 
Made a terrible mistake with that Lingard sub but otherwise don't think I can blame him for anything else and it was a good result.

I have to say I hate our complete inability to retain the ball in any big game for years now though. It'll never be a problem against other English big teams but in Europe, without being able to retain ball and share possession against the elite teams we'll never to an advanced stage. Our possession in these games usually doesn't exceed 40%.
 
If he get's the job he needs backing in the summer in the transfer market. Today is a different game with better centre midfield options and an actual right winger, although strangely a game where you wonder if a new centre back is so vital.

Bringing on Lingard was suspect, but you’d imagine both the medical team and the player said he was fit enough to play. That was his only poor decision. Mata and Herrera going off wasn’t his fault.

Towards the end of the first half it looked like we might be in for a loss. He changed the system and had a word with the players at half time. The players grit and drive is something he has reinstilled in them - they did the work but he deserves some credit.
 
Thought it was an insanely poor decision to shove on Lingard at first when he clearly wasn't ready, considering we had Sanchez on the field, which might cost us more now.

the other option was Fred on for Mata and then Sanchez on for Rashford. Rashford was already limping when Herrera fell down so we should've saved that sub for later. it was huge risk to bring Lingard and tbh he shouldn't have been on the bench in the first place.
 
Only saw the first half so i take it we played much better in the second half?
What i watched in the first half was some of the most boring and dreadful football i have seen.
Lvg esque without the possesion.
Hopefully he will learn if given time but the juries still out for me.
 
Lingard did a full training with no issues. Martial did not. Lingard was not good enough to do 90 mins. Lingard was subbed on a bit early because of injury. Lingard knocked up his injury or gained a new one. Thats football and hardly a mistake. A mistake would be to have Lingard on the bench knowing he could not play at all. That was not the case.
