19.45 KO

Tuesday 18th October 2011

Can't afford to drop points here after the past 2 draws but need to think about City. Berbatov should start, as should Valencia and Fabio.

We can't afford to mess around with the lineup and absolutely have to win.

No need to worry about City, they'll be playing their first team too.

anything less than a win would be real bad, we must get 6 points from this lot.

de Gea

Smalling
Jones
Vidic
Evra

Valencia
Carrick
Anderson
Nani

Rooney
Hernandez

SUBS: Lindegaard, Evans, Fletcher, Park, Young, Berbatov, Welbeck.

I would go for:

--------------De Gea--------
Smalling---Evans---Vidic---Evra
Nani--Cleverley--Anderson--Young
-----Rooney----Welbeck/Hernandez

But I think Carrick will play and it might be a 4-5-1 with Rooney up front on his own.

----------------De Gea------------------
Smalling------Rio------Vidic---------Fabio
Nani------Anderson----Carrick------Young
-----------Rooney----Chicharito----------

Subs: Lindegaard, Jones, Fletcher, Park, Valencia, Owen, Berbatov.

4-4-2 please, stop shutting up shop, we need to win.

save rio, evra, anderson, young and hernandez for the citeh game.

this line up should be good enough to get us 3 points. no disrespect to galati but we actually should win this game even with our 2nd choice players.

hope we can have back vidic and cleverley for this game as well.

de Gea
Jones Smalling Vidic Evra
Carrick Anderson
Valencia Rooney Nani
Hernández
--
Lindegaard; Fábio, Evans; Cleverley, Young; Welbeck, Berbatov

Very strong side. Rest Ferdinand for Man City though. Get Cleverley on the pitch, probably Fábio and Welbeck too, or even some minutes for Berbatov. Got to win the two games against them. Could see Lindegaard possibly starting too.

Team should be...

GK: De Gea

RB: Smalling
CB: Jones
CB: Vidic
LB: Evra

RM: Valencia
CM: Carrick
CM: Fletcher
LM: Young

CF: Rooney
CF: Hernandez

Subs: Lindegaard, Evans, Fabio, Anderson, Park, Nani, Berbatov

Win please

-----------------------------De Gea----------------------

---Rafael--------------Vidic-----------Jones---------Evra--

----Park---------------Carrick------Anderson--------Nani---

-----------------------Berbatov----Rooney-----------------

Subs: Lindegaard, Evans, Pogba, Cleverly, Hernandez, Young, Owen
Prediction:1-2 unspectacular victory. Rooney, Anderson

Lindegaard, jut for rotation.

Have to take the game very seriously, but need to rest Rio. Anderson, Nani and Young should all come off early for the weekend.

Smalling Vidic Evans Fabio
.......Carrick Anderson
......Nani Rooney Young
...........Chicharito

And our badge needs to be at least as big as theirs!!

On reflection, I can see an argument for Berbatov starting this one with Rooney and wouldn't be overly surprised if that happens to be honest.

We should start with the strongest team possible here. No room for anymore mistakes in the group. Win our 2 against this mob then we'll have set ourselves up nicely.

Are Cleverley and Vidic going to be back for this one? It will be a good game for them to regain fitness because we need both of them for City.

It seems that Vidic and Gibson are doubts for this, Cleverley and Rafael are out of this.

----------------De Gea--------------

Fabio-----Vidic-------Evans-----Evra

Valencia----Carrick---Anderson---Nani

-----------Rooney---Hernandez-------

subs
Lindegaard
Smalling
Jones
Cleverley
Young
Welbeck
Owen

I would probably rest Young could be wrong because I've missed a couple of games this season with work but he seems to have been the least rotated player this season.

............Lindegard.................
..Fabio Smalling Evans Evra..
.Nani Carrick Anderson Park
.....Rooney Hernandez.........

Game we should win comforably

MUFC 23-man travelling squad:

Owen, Berbatov, Rooney, Hernandez, Welbeck, Diouf

Lindegaard

Smalling
Evans
Vidic/Jones (fitness?)
Evra/Fabio "

Valencia
Ando
Carrick/Cleverley "
Park

Rooney
Welbeck

Amos, Vidic? Fabio? Cleverley? Berb, Owen, Hernandez, Young

Have to win this one. Hope we put out a an attacking team set up to put them to the sword rather than knicking things on the break.

Yeah, this.

I think a six of Carrick, Anderson, Nani, Valencia, Rooney, and Hernández is the best thing to do. They'll all be fresh as well, with Carrick, Anderson, and Valencia not playing against Liverpool, while Nani, Rooney, and Hernández were all on for less than half an hour each.

The defence is more difficult. Lindegaard could well start though I'd like to think that de Gea is the choice now in games that are more important (Lindegaard will play in some cup games, maybe home games against relegation-worthy opposition etc).

I want Vidic to play at least some part in the game if possible, just so we don't have to throw him in against Man City after barely playing. I'm thinking maybe Fábio at Right Back instead of Jones now, with Evra at Left Back and pretty much any combination of Smalling, Jones, Vidic, and Evans for the Centrebacks (though I'd prefer Smalling and Vidic for this).

I reckon we'll do these for at least three goals in a comfortable win, but struggle more in the return leg at Old Trafford and grind out a win instead. Expecting six points from the two games though, definitely. Anything less and we may struggle to win this group.

Absolutely have to win this if we are going to win the group. In all reality we should batter them, but it's no cert.
