Just stating my opinion that he is just unhappy with his performances. I don't think he cares what his body language or facial expression can connote, I don't see him walking off the pitch going 'Gotta remember to smile incase they think I'm not happy here'. Better then replying BULLOCKS to something anyway.

Its so typical of our supporters to continue to complain and find faults no matter how well the team does. We have just comprehensively outplayed and beaten Celtic in the Champions League. As a team performance it was fantastic and Ronaldo certainly played his part. Dont forget that.
That's what he's been doing. Since the summer, he hasn't said anything or done anything. He's gone on with his daily life.

The whole not celebrating thing last week, whenever he gets tackled, the whole 'feck that ref, I've been tackled, so I'm going to stand still, and stare at you, while play continues, because I'm Ronaldo' thing he does often.
I'm being overly critical of him, I agree, but some of his actions annoy the feck out of me. You don't see Messi, or Kaka acting the way Ronaldo does a lot of the time. It's unnecassery....he's the best player in the world ffs.

I think he's a bit unhappy at being asked to play more as an out-and-out winger. He has less freedom than he did last season.
He said in an interview last season I think that he prefers playing as a winger but its 'up to the coach'

In all honesty though, I remember saying the same about Giggs a few times in the match threads.
Ronaldo is not messi or kaka. That's just the way it is and these small acts of 'petulence' where he stands still after what he perceives a foul doesn't really affect the team that much does it? He still plays well the team still does well. Not every player is going to be as solskjaer or a scholes who gets on with the business.
It was in interviews last season where even though he was in the form of his life, he would still feel insecure about one miss in a match. He has arrogance on the field but not so off it.
And he has been nothing but professional since staying. He's come back early from injury because he wants to help the team. He tries his best every game.

I still havent got a bad word against the guy, but I just thought it warranted a mention. What isnt in question is that he was sullen and less expressive than normal. What is in question is why.
See, lets not get sidetracked here. ronaldo was doing the whole stop and gesticulate thing when tackled from day one, and even when he's on fire. its part of his package. ive got no problems with it, and he's not doing it anymore or less now.

Although Giggs does it on rare occassions, Ronaldos at it all the fecking time. I understand athe point about him being a perfectionist, but I'm very sceptical, given the summers events, about how much he wants to be here (more so than others are by the looks of it), and that makes it hard for me to warm to him again.

He loves the press, he lives for the attention. He definately doesn't hate them, he used them for his own ends all summer and his sad puppy dog expressions in the past few matches are probably for them as well. Ronaldo isn't as stupid as some people think.
He might like the International Press but he probably fecking loathes the English press and who can blame him after 2006 when all the papers followed each other like sheep in blaming him for England not being able to take penalties.
Personally, if he is not happy with how he is performing, then I would rather he showed that by not looking happy, then doing a fake big grin, just to get the media to not talk about his future for all of..........one day before they dig up old quotes from Marca

No doubt that he has been playing a slightly different role since we've been playing Rooney and Berbatov up top, anyway, and he seems more unhappy in the last few games than he was when he made his return... could well be nothing much in it.

Seriously though, I understand where you're coming from. I'm just more of the mindset that he apologized for what happened, and since then has been focused on giving his all for the team. No doubt he acted a bit of a fool in the summer(though I still maintain that much of what was talked about was media hype), but since then he's kept his head down. Everyone else has been looking for looking things to nit pick about.
I don't think where he plays is the issue here, its his overall attitude both on, and off the pitch. He looks disconsolate, unhappy, bored and uninterested. If Ronaldo is here come the Autumn of 09 i'll eat my season ticket.

As a winger, yes - that doesn't surprise me. I just think he's being asked to play with a bit more discipline now - doesn't have quite as free a role when Berbatov is in the team, because that means two luxury players. Tevez and Rooney both naturally drop deep, allowing him more freedom to express himself, and meaning he gets more of the ball. I think both Berbatov and Ronaldo have been told that they need to do their bit running back. It's a subtle thing - I'm not even sure he's that unhappy, I just think he wants to have the ball more, score more, do more, and it's not quite happening for him, and I think that in turn is down to the change in the shape of the team - which overall I think is a positive thing for us. He'll settle in I think.
To be fair i saw him play for portugal and he wasnt exactly mr cheery but they were drawing with Albania so i assumed that was why. Hell, i dont know. Guess we'll know soon enough.
Being sceptical again, I'd say he's kept his head down because he was put into a position where it was made clear he had no choice. Dug himself into an unfortunate hole I feel...could sense that in the crowd (erm, through the telly), when he was subbed...the only real chear was when Park came on to replace him...
What I think a lot of it is is that he has become part of the showboating culture that dominates other sports, with basketball being the main example where a guy will do a top dunk or whatever and arrogantly show no emotion like it was no effort whatsoever. The prime example in football was Thierry Henry who was nonchalantly egotistical when scoring, dropping his head and jogging away with no expression like it 'ain't no thang'.

I can see that - but don't think Ronaldo is quite like that. He's a better sportsman than Henry I think - really wants to improve himself and reach new heights all the time. He knows he's good, but he wants to be better.
If this was still going on 5 games down the line i may start agreeing with you, but its far too early to be coming out with this. for all we know it could be something else. I'll give the lad the benefit of the doubt

In basketball it is more accepted as it is part of the game whereas in football it seems to not be the case

There was a time circa 2001-2002 when ever Beckham scored he would arch his back, raise his arms in the air like Jesus Christ with a cocky, unsmiling look on his face; that used to drive me mental as I think this period was when he really believed his own hype and thought he was some kind of footballing Deity. Prior to that, he was very excitable whenever he scored which was great to see, and I'm glad to see he's since reverted back to a standard joyful celebration in the years since, but back then (which was when his probs with Fergie began), he acted like a twat.
This is the same with Ronaldo, hopefully it's an immature or arrogant phase just like Beckham had that he's going through and it will pass........
