PARK-A true unsung hero

Park's a decent player but asking him to man-mark Messi is a nutter's idea. The way Madrid played Messi in the first leg of the CL tie (even though he got the better of them in the end) should give you an indication of how Messi should be chaperoned across different areas of the pitch. The full-backs got tight to him each time he drifted to the wings and Pepe did the dirty work whenever he drifted into the middle. Messi will run rings around Park all day if it was only him assigned to stop Messi, the responsibility for that task should be shared across the side. Messi's far too clever a player to let one man get in his way.

Obviously.

Evra - Park is unbelievable

Evra - Park is unbelievable
Ferdinand also full of praise for work ethic of 'unsung hero'

Patrice Evra hopes that Manchester United team-mate Park Ji-sung could prove the key to keeping Lionel Messi quiet in the UEFA Champions League final.

The two clubs are preparing for their Wembley showdown on 28th May in what promises to be a thrilling encounter.

Messi, regarded as the best player in the world, is one of the biggest threats to United and scored in Barcelona's win over Sir Alex Ferguson's men in the 2009 final.

But Evra thinks that midfielder Park, who started the defeat to Pep Guardiola's team two years ago, has a secret advantage.

"It must be the Korean food. I try to do the same, sometimes I go to his house and eat the same food."

"Ji's unbelievable," said Evra. "I was just laughing when I was watching the Chelsea game when he was running, because it was unbelievable.

"It must be the Korean food. I try to do the same, sometimes I go to his house and eat the same food.

Ridiculous
"But seriously, I think Ji is an example to every player. He runs for everyone. Sometimes if I'm tired I know I'll be okay because Ji will run for me.

"I think he's one of the most important players in the team because he doesn't stop running, he can run all day.

"It's funny because when we reached the final, some fan said, 'Yeah, we're going to win against Barcelona because Ji is going to run all day with Messi.'

"I made some joke with Ji in the dressing room afterwards, saying, 'People now think you're a defender.'"

United and England defender Rio Ferdinand has also been impressed by Park's worth ethic.

"The lads in the changing room sometimes sit and laugh at the amount of work Ji gets through, because it's just ridiculous," said the centre-back.

"We just want to know what he eats pre-match and at home. He must have a different diet to all of us because the way he runs and the energy he's got is phenomenal.

"It's great to see and have as a part of your team. He's definitely an unsung hero."

Sir Alex Ferguson full of praise for Manchester United's Korean superstar Park Ji-Sung's charity efforts

The Red Devils midfielder will hold a charity fundraiser in the Vietnam capital to encourage young football prospects to follow their dreams in the sport

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has praised his Korean midfielder Park Ji-Sung for his contribution to charity ahead of the inaugural Doosan Asian Dream Cup in Vietnam.

The cup has been set up by Park's JS Foundation which aims to support young football prospects in following their dreams in the sport.

Park's JS Friends' team will face Vietnam's Navibank Saigon in Ho Chi Minh City on Wednesday.

The match will feature a host of popular Asian stars including Bolton's Lee Chung-Yong, Monaco's Park Chu-Young, Celtic's Ki Sung-Yueng, China's Li Weifeng and former Japan international Hidetoshi Nakata.

Ferguson praised the Korean superstar for his role in organising the event.

"I would like to say that Ji-Sung is a fantastic professional. He has a real caring heart. Whatever he is going to achieve out there, I hope he finds he enjoys it," said Ferguson in a video message at Incheon International Airport on Monday.

"You [Park] are fantastic that way. Have a good day, all the success.”

The Manchester United midfielder overcame stunted growth after living on a diet of frog stew as a child to become one of Asia's most recognised and respected athletes.

"I would like to give inspiration to all of those children of Vietnam who dream of becoming a soccer player and to let them know that they too can become great players," said Park to reporters.

"I have heard that soccer is very popular in Vietnam. One of the reasons why we chose Vietnam as the site of our first charity project is because of the way in which the country has also had this tragic experience in its history of being torn in two.”

Park revealed he had originally hoped his Manchester United teammate Patrice Evra might join him in Ho Chi Minh City but the Frenchman's international commitments preventing him from doing so.

"Unfortunately my friend and teammate Patrice Evra cannot participate due to the schedule of the French national team," said Park.

why do they always put in the frog juice, in every news regarding him?
anyway, what a great little man my Ji. Yeah, I always have a certain light in my eyes when I talk about him.

Anyone really tried frog yet ?

I actually have, its a very popular dish in Eastern Thailand... They actually taste like chicken ( Once fried Thai style ) a bit more oily though... but certainly tasty... Also quite expensive too.

Then why not stick to chicken?

I tried fried frogs, but I rememebr they tasted like fish or something. But is the way they produce the juice that makes me sick just thinking about it...

Manchester United's Korean midfielder Park Ji-Sung says he believes he doesn't have long left with the Red Devils, in the wake of links with Spanish La Liga duo Sevilla and Atletico Madrid.

The 30-year-old Red Devil, who retired from international football after the 2011 Asian Cup, comes out of contract at Old Trafford at the end of the 2011-12 season.

Mirror Football reports Park is attracting interest from the Spanish duo and added Atletico will have money to spend with Sergio Aguero and David de Gea set to be sold by the club.

Earlier this month, The Telegraph reported Park is likely to sign an extension with United when he returns to the club for their pre-season tour of the United States in August.

However, Park told reporters ahead of his charity match in Vietnam he was open to the idea of moving to another club before retirement.

"I won't be able to show my best after one or two years. I don't know how long I can stay at Manchester," said Park.

"I never thought about retirement but it's obvious that I don't have much time left as a player.”

He added: "According to circumstances, I might leave Manchester United and retire in another team.”

When he got his last extension (2009) he specifically asked for three years when he was offered four, so I think he might have some vision of going after next season or soon thereafter.

He was brilliant at times for us last season. Started fairly poorly but October - December he was among our best performers, then the Asian Cup and injury kept him out for a few months and he was great on his return.

I don't think the club will sell him nor do I think he will leave this summer. He'll stay on and as someone else mentioned probably leave either next summer of summer after next to go back to his homeland.

would be a pretty good ending for a such lovely player. given the style of a player park is, he is not going to play until he is 35 or 36, so i guess a couple of seasons with us, and then probably a year or two with one of his homeland club sounds like the right ending for park as a footballer.

Park Ji-Sung set for one-year extension deal with Manchester United

London, July 6(ANI): Manchester United midfielder Park Ji-Sung is in line for a new deal at Old Trafford.

According to The Sun, United manager Sir Alex Ferguson wants a one-year extension to Ji-Sung's deal, which expires in 2012.

Earlier, the South Korean footballer had said that he will remain at Old Trafford for as long as possible, putting an end to rumours that he could retire elsewhere.

"It would be an honour for me to keep playing for Manchester United. I have nothing to say about any transfer rumours - I just want to stay at Manchester United," Ji-Sung had said.

"As an Asian player, it's an honour to play for the biggest club in the world. I and other players want to achieve a 20th league title for United," he had added.

Ji-Sung had joined the Reds from PSV Eindhoven for four million pounds in 2005.

Brilliant news. Love park. Wished it was longer than a one year deal. He should of got a 2 or 3 year extension.

Good news for the team ! (especially Pat)

He injects lot of energy and I don't give a crap about his age. He's still a very quality and dynamic player.

Great goal by Park last night.
Brilliant one two followed by a cheeky dummy before chipping the keeper. Lovely.

I love him.

I love him.

Wast watching a season review the other day and he really was a brilliant player for us..

In terms of creating/scoring goals the consensus seems to be that Nani and Berbatov carried us in until the new year or so, with Rooney and Valencia taking over in the closing months.

I actually think Park was almost as important as any of them, despite being poor in the opening weeks. He mightn't have picked up as many goals/assists as some of the big games but he really excelled in a number of really crunch games. His last minute goal against Wolves was Roy of The Rovers stuff and he almost single-handedly broke Chelsea in the CL. The poor start and the lengthy absence when injured/away tend to obscure just how well he performed last season.

I love him. Always gives everything he has, clearly loves the club and he has a knack of scoring, with ******, when it really matters.

Considering his commercial value in the East, and the role he plays in the team, I'd have to say that he has been one of SAF's best value signings.

I'd like him to retire at OT.

Edit: FFS I can't believe that that 'other' forum means I can't use the word a-plomb

"I'd like to stay at Old Trafford for life", reveals Park

Jul 17 2011 by Steve Bates, The People

PARK JI-SUNG has told Manchester United: Id like to stay at Old Trafford for life.

The South Korean midfield star has just a year to run on his contract and has attracted interest from Spanish sides Atletico Madrid and Seville. But Park insists he has no desire to leave the champions.

And speaking at the launch of Uniteds new away strip in Seattle, Park confirmed: Theres no truth at all that I would leave United I want to stay.

I would like to stay here for life, of course why not? It is the best club in the world so it would be great to finish my career here.

When he joined United from PSV Eindhoven in a £4million deal in 2005, the Dutch sides boss Guus Hiddink claimed Park would not play many games at Old Trafford.

But Park added: Its been better than I could ever have imagined.

You have to give park Credit. Sometimes you watch players and they stand still but he's grown in his time here. It's hard to believe he's been here 6 years but he's added goals to his game and hopefully he'll have another good season

I don't find it offensive at all. It's one of my favorite chants. I can't imagine a United match without it. Even Fox Soccer Channel here in US uses that song to promote Premiership.

You don't find it offensive, the Korean community perhaps will think otherwise.
