PARK-A true unsung hero

Park is a squad player at best. We can utilise him well in certain games but i definately wouldnt consider him a regular starter. He doesn't offer enough creativity, goals, or assists to merit starting in that position in the hole, and to play him there to stifle an opposition player (as against Milan last season) is a bit too anti football for my liking.

A squad player who's shown creativity, goals and assists in the past season.

Will we be seeing little Ji in the central role behind Rooney more often this season? I think it's certainly worth giving a chance as it looked promising on the occasions it was trialled last year.

Is our best formation something like this?

Fletcher - Scholes
Valencia - Park - Nani
Rooney
You don't seriously want to play Park in a key role like that - it's bad enough having him on the pitch.

Park played fantastically there last season. His simple and direct passes open up the area in tight spaces. Plus his runs open up far more space than throwing Berbatov in there.

In the last 3 seasons he's played 3300 minutes of premiership action, with 6 goals and 5 assists ( goal every 550mins average, assist for every 660 min). average). Does that suggest producivity In the final third or an eye for a killer pass? Qualities that are fairly important for a player to be successful 'in the hole'.

He's a decent player and he's a good lad but he's always been no more than a squad player. It would be worrying if we ever regard a player so limited as being an important first choice player here.

Park's a better footballer than Fabregas, far more productive and hard-working.

It's bollox, actually.

There are dozens of sides who could be improved by signing Park. This doesn't mean they're beating our doors down trying to sign him, any more than Arsenal have received offers for every one of their first team this summer.

Judging the quality of players by the number of transfer rumours about them is a mug's game.

Plenty of championship sides would take him but not at £50K a week.

He's blatantly not a Championship player but I doubt you'll admit that, with your massive blind-spot about him an' all.

No worries though, so long as he keeps on embarrassing Arsenal it doesn't really matter how highly he's rated by their fans.

He's scored 2 or 3 goals against Arsenal.

I don't have a blind spot about Park, he's a hardworking midtable player who would be great for Wolves. What I don't get is why say O'Shea is properly regarded as a decent squad player and Park and Fletcher are hyped out of orbit.

Are you serious? Park gets just as much stick from United fans as O'Shea, if not more.

The way I see it, the two are directly comparable (albeit at opposite ends of the pitch). Important, versatile, squad players without whom we wouldn't have been so successful in recent years.

That's one of the most important factors that has separated United from the best of the rest these last few years, the fact we have seasoned internationals like Park and O'Shea who never moan about squad rotation but are able to come in and do a job in specific games and/or as cover when other players get injured.

I don't think anyone would claim they're as good or better than the best XI players at the likes of Arsenal or Chelsea but they're a damn sight better than most PL players and streets ahead of the back-up utility players at our rivals.

Poor peter, got worked so now goes down the well he is championship level and no one is bidding on him so he his useless. How many people have bid for RVP - your supposedly second best player or Nasri or anyone else?

Yeah didn't think so.

Yet Park continuously tears Arsenal a new one every time he plays them and plays blinders in big Champions League games.

If "hardworking midtable players" can destroy Arsenal on a regular basis Arsenal must really be shit. I mean shit.

But, they are.

It's a pity he doesn't turn it on regularly in the Premier League.

Pete is essentially right. And Pogue. Park is very limited in terms of technical ability and skill. He's a great squad player who turns it on every now and then for the big games, but you wouldn't want him starting the majority of our matches where creativity, skill and goalscoring ability are needed against teams who tend to park the bus.

Its arrogance like this which is why Arsenal struggle to win things. You need squad players. No surprise the arrogance of your manager permeates through to the fans.

Correct. Horses for courses.

Still a really important member of our squad and someone who would be a quality addition to any of our rivals.

Pretty much. Although people warm to Park a bit quicker when he hits a bit of form than O'Shea because he's energetic and constantly involved, he's a bit more exciting basically. I think that's happened here with people wanting him in the first choice line-up now. He's not putting Valencia, Nani or Berbatov out of the team.

Isn't it strange that we're actually arguing against Park now, in some ways, whereas before we were having to big up Park just over a year ago to most who thought he wasn't valuable?

That's Redcafe all over, I suppose - no middle ground!

Off topic - look at that ball by Anderson to Ronaldo. Slightly overhit but, Ando sees plays like that often - just doesn't seem to get the right weight on the ball but, imagine Chicha running onto balls like that.

Nani, Rooney, Chicha, Valencia counter attacking .... could be something yummy.

It's the run-a-lot factor, see Smith Tevez et al. Hargreaves would have been a superhero if he could have stayed fit.

Basically yeah. You still don't think you've been a bit harsh on Tevez? 29 goals last season...

He has a good season, 23 league goals in 33 appearances is pretty hot, but one swallow doesn't make a summer. He looked fairly average in the world cup.

Eh? He was probably Argentina's best player.

Regarding Park - he's not good enough to play centrally for United. His disaster of a performance there against Chelsea is all the evidence needed. He was quite poor against Liverpool, too, despite scoring.
