PARK-A true unsung hero

The basic foundations for contribution have always been there for Park. The engine of course is what everyone references, but I think he also has a knack for getting into space to give his teammates good passing options. His problems in the past usually result from what he does when the ball actually gets to his feet, most notably a relatively poor touch, sometimes stray passing, and a lack of composure. What irritates me the most sometimes is that he'll do a good job of getting into space, receive the pass, and then dribble himself into traffic to completely nullify the advantage he created by getting himself into open space.

But he's done a lot less of all those things recently, and most importantly he's been a lot more aggressive and confident on the offensive end. He's done a better job of knowing when to make the simple pass and when to try something a bit more ambitious. He also seems to have a much better understanding of what's going on around him and it seems he's no longer afraid to take a shot when that's the best option. It's a far cry from the old "running around like a headless chicken" Park that we've seen in seasons past.

He's certainly not the most creative player, but he does a good job of seeing what's in front of him and taking the best option available. All that with his engine and his attitude and I'm glad Fergie has stuck with him even if a lot of fans aren't willing to.
 
Love Park

If he was British he would be much more appreciated and would be some kind of cult hero at United.

"Just a squad player" and "just provides workrate" are boring and innacurate statements thrown around about Park.

He is actually a pretty damn good attacker. Unerrated dribbler, picks out a nice pass and is capable of a decent finish.

He is lightweight and gets outmuscled often but besides that he is actually a very accomplished footballer.

Watch him for South Korea. He is their man. He is a dynamic attacker for them and oozes creativity and aggression.

I'd say that's playing damn well. Not faultish in any way and scoring two goals from midfield.

And let's not forget that was his job while Ronaldo was here. Also that his attacking follies during that time were due partly to him being 3rd or 4th on-pitch option. When day in and day out you're in get Ronaldo a shot get Rooney a shot get Ronaldo a shot get Rooney a shot mode and then a chance comes for you to take a shot...well, you can figure the rest out.

Fantastic match. Beginning of the 2nd half saw us come alive largely due to him getting moved inside where he could make more of a mark on the match. Nice pairing with Fletcher.
 
Not surprised, I think he improved a lot last year, I thought he did very well in the world cup he just needed to get going really. He will help us in a 3 man midfield in Europe.

It is clearly his best position, its no surprise that's where his best performances come from for both club and country, last season alone his standout performances were against Milan in the champions league, ran Pirlo ragged over 2 legs.

Ive always maintained Park is not a winger and hes mostly totally ineffective from there, he doesn't have the basic attributes to be a successful winger, hes not quick, he doesn't posses a skill set that enables him to dribble past multiple opponents, his delivery isn't up to much and hes often used on the left where he has to cut in the whole time as hes not got a left foot to speak of and hence we basically render the left wing a crossing free zone, he just doesn't provide enough attacking umph to be a threat out wide, through the middle is a totally different matter, one of his greatest assets is his intelligence, if you watch him hes actually a very clever mover off the ball he picks up space well, Sir alex has said this about him on many occasions, hes got a decent eye for a cute little pass and gets into some good positions when played there, it just suits his game so much more than what is asked of him when hes played wide.

For me its very simple with Park, hes a good team player who when played centrally can be a very useful asset, but hes not and never has been a great winger, he simply doesn't suit the role as he doesn't posses the required attributes, and when he does play there for us he often dosnt perform very well, provides little to no service from out there and looks lost at times, we have no natural width when Parks played out wide because hes always cutting in, it just doesn't work for either him or the team unless its purely a defensive selection in a european away game where by his job is mainly to protect the full back and double up on an opposition threat, in that sense hes a good option as an attacking one hes not.

Delighted to see his picked up his performances of late, he was awful early season but that goal in the carling cup seems to have given him a massive confidence booster, hopefully he can continue to get better as we'll need him over the next week especially given all the injurys we have.
 
i reckon that the reason why park has been performing is because of the run in that he has had due to the injuries....
the reason why he has this reputation of being a winger is also because of his time when he was in PSV where he was on the wings...?
