Paul Pogba

It works the same as anything else. If you get offered substantially more money to do the same job elsewhere, and your current employer isn't interested in matching it, you're going to bugger off.

Being Manchester United doesn't entitle the club to offer players below what they can get elsewhere and just expect them to sign on because "we're Manchester United". It doesn't work like that. Especially not when it's with someone you lured away from their club with the promise of more money in the first place.

It doesn't matter if it's Paul Pogba or Wayne Rooney. The principle is the same. There's a going rate for players and you either choose to keep up with it or you lose out. Trying to blame the players when you choose the later is arrogant...how many players would be allowed to walk out the door before the club woke up?

If we can't afford the going rate then that's just tough titties for us, but if we're trying to play some kind of game with this, then we're being stupid in the extreme.

I agree. We should really wake up and smell the roses. For the majority of Europe, Manchester United is just one of many big clubs which happens to be in a city, which with due respect, its not considered as a top place to leave in. The top clubs are located in Spain (Barca/real) while the best standard of living is either in Spain or Italy.

What's Juve's recent record like at bringing kids through from their reserves/youth team?

While they are more known of getting young players at a quite a young age and developing them further (ex Buffon or Del Piero), they did produced some great talent, especially since they had to rely on them to go back in the Serie A.

Juve tend to be less patient with kids then us (the Giovinco case bears in mind) however competition for places, should, at least in theory be less fierce there then it is with ours.

Buffon was already established at Parma when he signed for Juve for a large fee to replace Vds.

A lot of people have mentioned Rooney's wage and have speculated about how it has affected this contract process

I have read that Macheda is on pretty substantial wages. He is a similar age and at a similar level to Pogba. If it is true that he is on over 30k a week, could this also be part of the problem? Could Pogba be using Macheda's contract as a starting point?

This is obviously pure speculation obviously, and probably bullshit, but it has made me curious since the day I read about Macheda's wage...

Honestly he has a far better chance of getting into our midfield that theirs in the short term.

There is no way Macheda is on 30k a week.No way.

10-15 k more like.

What a load of bollocks. Weather wise, food wise, possibly. For all other things not in a million years. I love both countries but that your statement is simply untrue.

weather wise, food wise possibly ... POSSIBLY ? :)

Agreed. To look at a country just from a weather perspective is a little silly. Food doesn't matter because you'll find cuisine from around the world in pretty much every big city in Europe and you can afford to dine at restaurants when you're a well-paid footballer.

If its cultures French do settle in the PL very well.

So I don't think all that is the problem.

The only the problem here is his agent and Pogba not having brain of his own.

I travel to Italy regularly and I went to Barcelona twice. Comparing Manchester with lets say Firenze or Roma is a bit.....:wenger:

London is pretty attractive for millionaires too.

I think we're mostly considered second tier in transfers etc because of wages and fees.

that's true. However Id rather be to Rome then to London

Turin is a shit-hole. Nobody moves to Juve because of it's location.

Id prefer Turin to Manchester altough I do agree with you that its not the best city in the world. However Turin has quite some illustrate neighbours around. Its 2hrs drive away from Monte Carlo and 2-4hrs drive away from Firenze, Bologna (Best food I've ever ate), Milan and Geneva.

We understand that living in Manchester is not as attractive as living in South Europe, we also understand that we are not the only club around but we are still held in high regard and are still one of the top clubs in the world, who make people very rich and famous, there is no need to be smelling the roses. This is all about does the lad want to stay or not, if not then go. There's no reason why we should be pandering to the wants of an unproven 18YO. We are Manchester United, if you want to live somewhere warmer and for more money then go, do that. You are here to play football and in doing so and becoming succesful you we will make you richer and more famous than the majority of clubs out there barring a handful. This isn't Ronaldo, Messi or whoever, it's an 18 year old, one that can be replaced easily enough.

We're all fans, so our reasons for why he should stay will not be his.

If he's been offered double the money and immediate first team football, then you can see why he is tempted - all of us would.

Not to say he will leave - he's a the best club to develop and his eventual wage could be much higher here, so it's just whether he can be patient and complete his 'education'.

It's all very Anakin Skywalker-esque.

I love football, but I despise the modern scope of supposed football discussions.
Player power and other buzzwords are annoying enough but 'not a player yet' power is taking the piss. If he signs he signs, how whether he does or not is a barometer or indicator of anything else is beyond me.

I'm just glad the kid isn't on twitter

he'd be getting terrible abuse from United 'fans'

despite him being a plonker it was embarrassing the way Ravel was attacked on twitter

Poor deluded Moses, don't you realise the very future of our club, it's standing and ability to compete entirely depends upon us acquiescing to the demands of the 18 year old, as there's nothing special about our club nor are we that big a club and we're arrogant to think we are if won't paying him shitloads of money

I agree with much of what you said. However I have doubts in the bold part. We've been trying to add some real quality to CM for years and we failed miserably. Pogba may not be Messi/Ronaldo (we haven't had kids of world class level since the Fergie Babes came to scene to be honest) but he was one of the most promising player coming from the youth ranks. He would have been useful to have around.

He would have signed by now if he was staying. He is looking at Ravel Morrison on a much better contract and thinking 'I'd like a piece of that'. We should probably offer him better terms without telling the other young players...so that he stays as it will cost us a fortune to get a world class player in to replace him even though he hasnt come near fulfilling his talent yet. I think we have all waited long enough for him to sign. Give him the boot and get an equally talented young kid in like Barkley that would hopefully die for the club

And in the past when we've offered players better terms we just tell the other players how much that person is on? I don't know how you think that can happen.

If we give Pogba a better contract and don't broadcast how much he's on, the price will still get out somehow.

I saw the bump and expected there to be rumors of him being at the Milan juve game
Surprised no one on twitter has come up with that yet.

What about Gibson? That was truly embarrassing

Agreed....Gibson has never done anything wrong - apart from not being good enough for us. But he always gave his best shot when given the chance - to abuse him was absolutely disgusting

You could say the same for United, and I doubt any of the Juve players live in Turin, any more than any of United or City's players live in Manchester itself.

Did anyone claim that people would be tempted to sign for United because they get to live in Manchester?

Glad to say I missed the Gibson stuff

Didn't he leave twitter after a number of hours?

Twitter - gives any idiot a voice

Yes, 2 to be exact. Some of the tweets are on here: Here are the Tweets that made Darron Gibson quit Twitter within two hours [Updated: or did they?] · The Score

It was disgraceful. At the time it was said that he left because his phone kept making noises every time he received some sort of message, Rio said he couldn't be bothered with Twitter but it's clear that it was the abuse that hounded him off. That was an awful moment.

It wasn't even a case of just a minority of tweets being negative and abusive, it was a few hundred or thousand in that short space of time telling him he was a waste of space and didn't deserve to be a United player.

If he wants to go, let him. Don't beg.

It's up to Pogba to prove himself to Msnchester United, not the other way around.

Barkley reminds me of what Rooney would be is he was a natural midfielder, would love him to improve as a player with us.

In all fairness, he should be looking at Morrison for motivation to make it at United. He was sold, and still hasn't made an appearance for them yet. Although, he'll see that Morrison is making much more than him and probably has had his head turned. It's annoying as everything was looking good for him a month or so ago. Would be such a shame to see him go, but it is looking increasingly likely that he'll be off too.

Is all of this seriously coming from that one, historically inaccurate twitter user and the fact he didn't make the bench when Scholes, Carrick and Giggs did?

Nothing to see here, stop being harbingers of the apocalypse, it's most likely nothing.

He'll sign and all this will be forgotten.

Or, he'll leave and all this will be forgotten.

Mark my words.

Probably a dork of an idea but has there been any fan message sent to pogba trying to convince him to stay? A gentle ego rub always helps
