Phil Jones

Jamie Redknapp pissed me off today.

"Great run by Jones, the future England captain"

Christ...

I thought Micah Richards was the new Duncan Edwards; at least according to Summerbee. I never saw Edwards play so I can't compare but this lad Jones looks like he'll be a player to reckon with. This young team is gelling nicely. Young has made a huge difference and he's made the prospect of Giggs' retirement more bearable.

He's great...but today I thought he was a tad sloppy at times, not unlike most of the team, to be fair.

He seems far too talented to be constrained to just one position.

SAF should try him in CM. He may end up proving the solution to our CM problem

Anyone notice eventhough he played center back he still always bombarded forward. Good thing or bad thing?

He just took his eyes off Torres for a split second and Torres stole in creepingly to score that goal.

Great prospect for the future Man United team, but needs to be chaperoned properly, or else glitz and glamour gets to him before long and some member of a girl band would marry him... hmmmm sounds familiar now does it?

He plays. Whatever and whoever is available, Jones should play. Centrehalf, fullback or in midfield. Doesn't matter.

What i like most about Jones is that he may be only 19, but he sure can take care of himself. Our first and third goals came by because Terry was a little too busy fouling/intimidating Jones, but our boy can look after himself and also Torres for most of the match. On merit alone, he definitely has played himself into the First XI.

I can see the press talking about him being wasted in defence before too long particularly when he starts playing regularly for England. Like when pundits were convinced that Beckham would end up playing in the centre. With Beckham, Fergie was right to stick with him out wide so I'm sure he'll know what's best for Jones too.

To be fair he was a bit sloppy as well. He didn't even notice Torres running in behind him for the goal. Gave the ball away a fair few times.

He is a fantastic prospect but defensively this was his sloppiest game yet. (Understandable given we we gave the ball away tons of times as a whole)

Yesterday was a mad game. both teams looked horrible in defence. Torres was in great form yesterday though. not really a surprise to see him get the better of jones with his movement for the goal. these things will happen. he's just so young atm. will learn and get better with games.

He kinda reminds me a little of Keano. Absolutely smashing player and brilliant going forward

It's funny. I kind of feel we have Keane type of player the back with Jones, and Keane type of player upfront with Rooney. We just miss the Keane in midfield!

I've rarely been so impressed by such a young player.

His blood and thunder style of play means he always catches the eye, even if he isn't having the best of games. Thought Evans had a much better game yesterday but Jones will grab the headlines.

One thing I would like to point out for those wanting to see Phil Jones in CM is that, he would not be able to make those lung bursting runs if he were to play in midfield, as he would have been tracked by the opposition midfielders.

The reason why he could make those runs time and time again was because he came from deep, as a defender, and the opposition hesitated whether to track him or to lose freeing our other attackers, an unlikely liberty get if he were to play in midfield.

True, though sometimes it only takes a decent one-two to set a CM free.

He was exposed yesterday and showed his inexperience, but what he offers is more than blood and thunder. He's got terrific touch.

The lad just has so much going for him. Not only is he one of those rare natural footballers who seem to be able to play anywhere but he has a fantastic attitude to go with it who will leave everything on the pitch.

Listening to the football ramble the other day got me thinking, Phil Jones could play as a old-school Libero. He's the perfect player to take the ball out of defence. When everyone's fit:

.............................De Gea.............................

Rafael...........Vidic.................Rio...............Evra

.............................Jones...............................

..................Anderson........Cleverly...................

Nani........................Rooney....................Young

2 points:

1: Cleverley
2: I'd rather play Welbeck or Hernandez up front and Rooney in his best position.

He has been a bit of a star so far, but needs to do it week in week out for season after season. Great start to his United career but it's important that he keeps focused and doesn't believe the hype.

I'm sorry, midfielders can't make runs?

i don't get it. He was a CB against Chelea, if anyone doesn't make runs it's center backs, but he's done it from RB being marked. I don't think he's just taking advantage of being in defense, he's run past all sorts, through midfield.

As a midfielder, I think it would be invaluable to be able to get past his man. No one says that about Ando when he's running past people in midfield.

I'm just interested in seeing it, I'm not saying I think he'd be better there.

That'll be the usual City fans overrating their players. Duncan Edwards was from all accounts a player with both brains and brawn. Richards has consistently shown a lack of brains in football.

And a lack of ability on the ball. Jones can burst past people with pure pace and power but he has far more composure and skill than Richards ever had.

Fantastic player, though his inexperience did show a little towards the end of the second half when we were under pressure. Ability on the ball and natural leadership is unquestioned, but he will still need to work on his positioning and concentration to succeed against the best in the world.

Still, very impressive for a young player.
