They are both excellent footballers. It's possible that they are both too good to play centre back. By that I mean that particular position wouldn't make the most of their footballing capabilities.
If he was black we'd all question his age [/racist]
Amazing to think that he's got at least 15-16 years left at the top flight barring injuries
He is top class. Does anyone else wonder if both Jones and Smalling are too rounded a set of players to be defenders?
The next Duncan Edwards
lol, I loved that also. Just stood there with his arms half out-stretched, waiting for Rooney and the others to come to him. Confidence certainly isn't a problem for himLoved the way he soaked up the praise after his run for Rooney's 2nd. Proper Man United player.
Really impressed with him going forward
Thought he had a bit of trouble with Petrov, but there was enough there to show he could easily play RB for us, which is nice.
Good game, is already a fantastic player.
And I don't think he/Smalling would have been so easily caught out by Hernandez, Cahill hadn't got a clue where he/Hernandez was
He's so good there's a soda named after him.

Not at all, often it's your centre backs in modern football who have the time on the ball, so having players who can bring it out and use the ball well are increasingly valuable.
He needs a song/chant that will last for 15 years.
SAF mentioned in his post-match that Jones could play anywhere, including midfield... who knows, maybe your muppet dreams of Jones in DM will be answered one day!

Got to be worth a go though, don't you think? We only really have Carrick as a proper DM in the whole squad. It's probably our weakest area and Jones looks more than comfortable on the ball, i personally think he would be an very useful asset to us in that position, especially when Vidic comes back!
Sure I'm up for it... I even once wanted to see Ferdinand as a DM (and even got my wish for one match against... Wolves I think? In the FA Cup? SAF never tried it again though)
I kind of like the 2 man midfield for now though, it's given us 18 goals in 4 games, who knows, we might not be so fluid in attack if we shift to a 3 man midfield.
Blackburn iirc. Bentley got a hat trick so i think the conclusion was that it didnt work.
He played there against Wolves - Rooney was his midfield partner!Ok could it have been two games though? I'd like to take a punt that the game before that was against Wolves. If not, I'll admit defeat.

This was the game, but it makes reference to him playing in DM before, so it may have been Wolves. Rio was sent off in this game too.

no. It's perfectly fine.
