Phil Jones

They need to remake this ad with Phil Jones. Wouldn't even need gimmicked walls or anything.

When I see those runs, I think I want him making them all game long from midfield.

He deserves a run at striker, He'd hold up play twice as well as O'Shea...

Which is a fair point to make. Foster never looked United quality from his very first game for the club.

Yes he did, he was our MOTM by far in his PL-debut against Derby. He had some immense saves in that match, combined with excellent distribution throughout the game.

O'Shea was a great club servant for us. Jones is simply world class material, I honestly have no idea how Ferguson is going to manage the defense when Rio/Vidic/Rafael return. Evans and Smalling have been superb as well. Damn.

Like I said before, its almost unfair how good he is.

16 million too. Going to be the bargain of the century.

I'm a bit concerned for Rafael myself, because he may end up being 2nd choice for the big games behind Smalling or Jones for a while.

But Evra still needs cover, and they all have lots of time to develop.

He is the defensive equivalent as a teenager of Wayne Rooney when he first came to the club.

A man-child with the world at his feet.

I now understand the Venky's bitter reaction to his transfer fee.

He'd be worth 30 million pounds on the open market now I reckon.

Incredible start to his United career! He's so strong, quick and a brave player. Look how he made our third goal. Take a bow, son!

I'm very concerned about whether he's an injury concern for next week against Stoke. And Smalling too.

Looking at him over the past few weeks has got me wondering whether CB is his best position? The way he plays, he'd be the next best thing to Roy Keane in midfield.

Very good performance. Him and Evans weren't given too much protection at times but they did well against some great technical players.

Some minor criticisms;
he was a bit slow getting back for the Chelsea goal
when Torres broke through for the miss, him and Evans stopped playing expecting the whistle.

The young man has so much potential though.

Yeah I noticed some mistakes but what the heck he is just 19 and yong and learning;)

Loved his bombing run, and recovery in the box.

He's 19. He shouldn't be this good at 19.

How many duels against Terry did he have? I think he came out on top in about 80% of those duels, no? There was the run he made before Rooney's goal and at least two aerial duels he won too.

You're saying he was slow for the chelsea goal? It was a great pass and great run, it was Torres who ran onto the ball not james beattie, not to mention he probably didn't know torres was behind him

also, your second critism, jones was nowhere near torres or in a position to stop him, so of course he'd stop and watched what happened

This kid is rapidly climbing up the list of my favourite United players.

It's early but you can already see what a legend he'll become at this club

He lost the ball and walked back slowly to his position in the build up to the goal.

He still should try get goal side of the ball to help out. Stopping and watching< making an effort. He was a long way out, but I don't like to see defenders just accept that theres a goal coming.

These are fairly minor in the grand scheme of things, ridiculous to think he's only 19.

I remember his debut vs Chelsea at Ewood. He was absolutely fantastic in that game!

Reporter tried to get SAF to compare him to Edwards but he didn't bite, still very complementary.

Maybe because the hype is reaching extraordinary levels now, its getting a bit too much.

Look, I can see that he's a special young talent, but I do find it odd that Chris Smalling - someone who in my eyes has been just as impressive as Jones, if not more - isn't being talked up by the media and even people on here. Not particularly bothered by it mind, just an observation.

Very good point. Both are exceptional talents but yes Jones seems to get all the headlines. If I know the British media they are building him up in preparation to knock him right back down!

Jones is getting more hype simply because he does everything at a hundred miles an hour...Smalling appears to stroll through the game, and his demeanor is also quite laid back.

Jones is the all action type - usually more crowd pleasing, and more obvious to the eye.

It's all good..Smalling got a ton of praise last season, and the fact that he is now a full international should be proof enough of his reputation to those that matter.

BBC Sport - Ferguson compares win over Chelsea to 'a basketball game'

The following appeared in Daniel Taylor's article in the Guardian on Friday about Anderson - but apperently was later "pulled" from the piece at the request of 'somebody from OT"!

"But he is not alone. Tom Clare, who grew up alongside Sir Matt Busby's emerging team and wrote the compelling Forever a Babe, was moved this week to compare Jones to Duncan Edwards. "Watching his pace, his vision, his touch, his physique, his youthfulness and exuberance for the game, it brought the memories flooding back. Since Duncan's passing, no other player has ever done that for me. Until now."

Sir Bobby Charlton, who remembers Edwards's tackling as "a series of tank traps" and has openly admitted feeling inferior alongside him, has found himself making the same comparison over the past few weeks. Jones, at 19, has already shown he has the temperament, ability and competitive courage to be an ideal wearer of United's colours. "Some players come to a new club, a big club like United, and they take their time," Ferguson says. "We're very fortunate because Jones has just blossomed right away."

As I said earlier - the lad is not Duncan Edwards - however he is 'special' and I haven't been as excited watching a player as I am watching him. He's 19, and will still develop - but already he has all the attributes needed to succeed, and he has the wonderful temperament to do it as well. Fergie has watched the lad for the last three years -he knew then that this was a kid he wanted at OT - fortunately we are blessed that he was able to get Blackburn to part with him.

The lad was solid enough today, and another of those quick surging runs (and this is one facet of his game which REMINDS me of Duncan) resulted in another goal. This kid isn't yet the finished article, but my, when he is - we have some player to watch for the next 10 -15 years!
