Gaming PlayStation 4 (Console)

Ah yes that was the one! A shame indeed, was looking forward to it. Good luck with your other stuff, keep me informed.

Yeah, it was only a (sort of) clone of Donkey Kong anyway, although it was of course much deeper and almost like an RPG donkey kong of sorts (imagine the possibilites )

I should really redo it as something else, since I think people would really like it (going by the rpg talk on here) but alas I've not the time to do proper artwork.

How exactly are the upgraded specs going to change the games?

Slightly better graphics? Faster loading times?

I doubt it's anything that's going to be worth forking out the likely £400 cost if you've already got a PS3.

It blows the PS3 out of the pooper. Essentially they've replaced a 2005 GPU with an up to date one with 8x the badwidth to the VRAM.

I think he's asking more about what he'll actually see Weaste, not theoretical numbers.

The short answer, is the best change will be even more detailed textures and much, much better lighting. Coupled with smooth framerates. Now this won't mean a great deal to most people, and it won't look particularly different on your eyes, but couple with even more detailed models and you should still be fairly impressed.

Whether it's a huge noticeable leap worth the money, then I'm not sure. Bare in mind top PC's of today are more powerful, so some tech demos will show insight if you are that bothered about looking.

Because new hardware allows you do do things that could not be done before. I made the comparison earlier in the thread, you can't do Mario Galaxy on an N64.

Can't you just answer the question with a straight answer? I even did it for you!

You are preaching to the choir. The PS3 especially was the one where things like A.I and Physics could really move on, but they didn't, they'll stalled at best and at worst gone backwards.

Why? Because the games churned out these days are about flashy images and simplicity. And that's how they'll stay.

Certainly seems that way. You'd hope the arse will fall out of the market at some point and people will stop paying full price for what essentially equates to a slight update every year. It's the same with FIFA et al.

Those games weren't so crappy looking for the time though.

That is true, but I know I'd have more fun now replaying Vice City, or Goldeneye for example, than if I went and bought whatever the latest COD game is. In fact, I might have to dig the N64 out now I've said that!

Not if you believe Weaste's shit about GT5. Apparently, the models don't need to be updated!

I'm sure they'll do something to impress. That said, I'd rather they took out 80% of the Skylines, NASCARs and other samey cars and put in more variety. There are so so many cars they should have in but don't.

The premium ones at full LOD don't.

You still reckon? I think otherwise. That was a load of bollocks spouted by someone trying to cover their tracks. Believe me, I've worked in the exact same environment. Remind me to tell you about that one day, it involves plenty of high end Sony video equipment and Pinewood studios! ;)

However, let's not do that now, let's wait till it's being talked about. We don't want a repeat of the GT5 thread where I ruin the surprise too early again and you resort to using your many newbie account to call me a wanker

It's going to get a lot worse, especially with Cloud gaming.

Funny thing is, I've been saying since GTA 3 that that particular series is cod-like in it's stupidity. Only before Cod, of course.

Sure you get the thinking of a big open world, but when there's no consequence for your actions, the blowing everything up becomes incredibly redundant. But hey, with the new systems, maybe they'll actually figure a way to stop the cars and people disappearing everytime you turn around or get to a junction!

It was a cluster-feck of development that resulted is a good driving game weighed down by endless shit. Sony don't do games as well as they should, and they put idiots in charge.

Slightly off topic but THQ has been dissolved - http://uk.ign.com/articles/2013/01/...ow-company-of-heroes-darksiders-devs-acquired

There's a list in the article showing what franchises and studious have been sold.

It's a shame, but the model these big publishers live by can't be sustained. As I said back in 2001 when I was working for a dev over at Pinewood studios, games are following the Hollywood model and will only get more expensive to make and far more reliant on sales and whoring themselves to get them.

12 years later and I was bang on. Sure it seems obvious, but when you saw what was happening on the inside, you'd cry! fecking producers? PRODUCERS! Get to feck.

I can kind of see what you're saying, but there is a lot of story in GTA games and a shit load of side stuff, COD single player games take about 20 minutes to complete and then it's just MP. Although at least with MW2 you had the 'spec ops' missions which were good.

If I'm forking out for a new game I want something with a substantial story based single player game that I can waste away hours and hours of my life on! And hey, glitches are part of the fun

Sounds about right. The seasonal events continue to add fun to it, some of the recent ones have been great, properly challenging which makes it far better. There's just too many of practically the same cars, especially bloody Skylines. I know it's a Japanese game but bloody hell.

The GTA games have an appeal, even to me. But they have never evolved or moved on, the game mechanics are flat. However, it can't be denied Rockstar put on a show, and sometimes I think I really should have accepted their offer and gone up there.

Their games would certainly have better gunplay if I did

Yup. I called it spot on around the time they released prologue and got shit on here for it and Weaste has never given me the credit for being bang on the money about that one. If I wasn't such a gamer and as petty as him, that would nearly make up for the disappointing game it was!

GT5 isn't a game, it's a driving simulator. Sheesh!

This generations of games have been below par for me. Too much focus on multiplayer gaming and not enough focus on an in depth story or challenging gameplay.

I think there were some gems this generation, obviously the golden years seem far ago, but we have had many great games. This generation lacked a truly great GTA and sadly it seems GTA will be the swansong of this generation.

Also, MGS is yet to come. I mean, this generation still has legs game-wise which is why I think they may both stave off and release both in 2014, or at the earliest christmas this year.

 Nice one, that genuinely made me laugh fella!

That was a good argument though, we did go at it that time. You've got to admit, I was bang on the money about it. You should listen to me much more when it comes to game development, turns out I'm not just some shit programmer eh?

I'm struggling to think of much to be honest. There certainly wasn't much at all that hadn't been done better before, and that includes Nintendo's machine.

Other than LBP, the real good games have tended to sell shit. The Darkness for example was an early one that got totally overlooked. If that game doesn't show what dumbing down achieves and why it's done, I don't know what it!

Come on, taking the F2007 around the ring with the dynamic daytime changes was bloody fun.

I didn't like LBP. GT5 was great. The unchartered series. AC2. BF3 is about as good as FPS' have been for a while. I agree in general games have dumbed down though. But I also realise that FF7 and OoT are long ago in console terms and we'll be lucky to see anything to equal them, let alone beat them.

Metal Gear Solid 4 was something special, but then I'm overly in love with that series, which definitely clouds my judgement on the games.

I've still not played it, but I do own it!

Flower, Journey, Limbo.... ah shut the feck up Weaste!

Journey - is it worth it then? I've heard some rave shit.

Limbo was ok.

Ugh, we are talking games here, not interactive movies.

;)

 You big Jessie!

Though, do indie games count? They aren't generation specific really.

I can't believe you haven't played MGS4 yet you turd, get it turned on. Peace Walker was a stunning game considering it was designed for a handheld console.

Halo 4, I just want Weaste to bite.

Have you got the HD collection? My MGS dick is bigger than yours. Even if I haven't played 4. (I'm going to start playing 4 asap)

Wipeout HD, Super Stardust HD.... shut the feck up Weaste!

Now you are being silly, how the feck are those gems!

They are souped up versions of better games released to make a bit of extra cash. It's a shame what happened to a lot of the team that made WipeoutHD though isn't it?

To think, if I'd stayed in the game, I'd have likely been on that. High res was my game, and I may or may not have introduced it to one of the main guys on that. If we ever meet I can show you some great 640x480 (or 492 if my memory serves which it probably doesn't) stuff on the PSX.

I recently did a run through all the MGS games in order, its a stunning series with so many layers of depth you need to play through them multiple times to appreciate them.

Give me MGS5 on PS4 and take my money now.

Do you have MGS for PS1?

(Ignore any MG Nintendo original series gayers)

Sadly I don't. Have it for PC, but it wasn't as good.

Yeah what happened to that game Elvis?

I thought it'd be big, but the Redcafe thread was tiny so I assume it sold pitiful amounts?

I don't even know, I've never understood the Halo hype.

Some survived. Luckily.

It was a real cnuts trick though. Sony really let themselves down big time on that, there were some excellent and very loyal guys there!

I doubt that it would have happened under Harrison (who you hate if I remember correctly). Why Yoshida decided to do them over I don't know.
