Gaming PlayStation 4 (Console)

So, in a nutshell, can someone tell me what's so great about the ps4? All I can tell so far is slightly better graphics and more social media based?

I have no fecking clue about the PS4 itself, all I can say is that some very weird people work in the video game industry.

They really could have picked a better game to open proceedings, I know the guy is working on it but after the spec build up everyone was ready to burst with excitement about what it can do graphically and then they revealed Knack which looked like it was straight out of the PS3 catalogue.

Should have gone Killzone first, I mean look at it!

Arses in seats, Knack should have been tucked away in the middle.

This is the tech equivalent of getting cock-blocked when you thought a supermodel was about to be yours. I wonder how many in this thread actually shed a tear when the console didn't appear?

Who cares what the box looks like? No one buys a console based on how good/bad the generic box looks like.

So after all that did we at least learn what sort of hardware the thing is running? Or was it only pretty game visuals and talk all night?

Oh and where is weaste, he must be devastated with no reveal

Pretty much same specs that were leaked.

Not that the every day consumer cares, but they certainly have developed a console that game developers will love/find easy to develop for and therefore be able to push the power of the thing to the limit. So in turn we'll hopefully get more imaginative and immersible games.

When you look at what the current consoles can do already, there is not a lot more else they can do without pushing the price up for consumers.

Think we'll see a lot of improved home media/entertainment options eventually. PSN will probably get a kick up the ass, probably to the point you can use other devices to interact with the PS4 and the PSN.

Seems like Sony has learned a lot with the social gaming side of things though. Xbox beat them hands down last time around.

So looks like that Eurogamer article I posted earlier in the thread was pretty much right apart from the ram being 8GB.

You have to laugh though. Massive troll effort by Sony and will at least get people talking about the thing still. I'd expect they will do the console unveil at E3 or whatever it is called to draw all the attention away from Microsoft and Nintendo.

So to the less tech savy what does it actually mean in terms of games. Should be be expecting a noticeable difference from what high end PC are currently giving us?

Im glad I fell asleep during the show, no fecking console shots?

Dont get me wrong what they showed was interesting and I will more than likely want and get one but at the end of the day they just had a 2 hour show with no console and no idea of what the pricing of this thing will be either. Grand reveal my arse

They should have just shown the console and talked about the features then bring out the games at e3

Who launches a console without actually showing the console?

I think sony did with ps2. Also Nintendo has done it.

They probably aren't ready with the box, that 8gb ddr5 ram increase has changed the size and complexity of the chip, so they've got to make a bigger box, alter cooling, etc.

Also why show everything when you can save stuff for later to stay relevant for when microsoft reveals stuff? If they had shown it today, they wouldn't have much for e3 and microsoft would've stolen the show.

If they're not showing the console yet, what are the chances it'll actually be released this year?!

I thought it was pretty clever of them. They've basically shown us how amazing it is without showing the thing itself, which they'll do at E3 and steal MS thunder!

It's genius. You'll have gimps on the internet foaming at the mouth all the way until E3 over not getting to see a generic box. Helps keep the buzz going and builds up the mystique.

Umm, they've confirmed it'll be out this year.

Yeah, but come on, what gaming industry people confirm and what they actually do are generally two different things. I'm forever skeptical... fecking GTAV.

Also, I'm talking about a UK release date here... I assume it won't be at the same time as elsewhere in the world?

Games and consoles are very different things. Like Cina said, they've obviously got it built and working. The only way it would be delayed is if they discovered some sort of fault or problem, which would be catastrophic PR.

Not sure about that. The Wii U released in England around 10 days later than America, if I remember correctly.

Wasn't the PS3 about 3 or 4 months behind in the UK though?

Don't know why this would bother me mind... I never buy the first incarnation of a console anyway.

That was the old days. Most things are released in sync now, I'm sure this will be too.

The PS4 does not have any new hardware technology in it really. The PS3 was delayed due to CELL and Blu-Ray, mainly Blu-Ray production issues.

The Gaiki cloud technology is the biggest thing for me. It let's you try any game instantly before you buy and lets you play Ps4 games on the Vita.
The ability to stream games and watch friends streams is pretty cool in my opinion, you can interact with their game and can even jump in and help if they get stuck.
Watch Dogs, Killzone and Destiny look amazing and while Diablo 3 on console isn't great Im much more excited with the Blizzard/Sony link up, hopefully Blizzard will be releasing more games on the console in the coming years.

My thoughts as well on why they did it. Build the hype and talk and then show it fully at E3 and stop the other two from being able to build their own momentum from it

Anyone else think the controller looks class. They seem to have gone for as much gamer stuff on it as possible, rather than looks. But looks class.

Yeah I think all thats amazing. 5 years ago I would've thought watching people play video games is the stupidest thing in the world, but after watching endless zombie runs and let's play youtube videos...

Was it announced what type of Blu-Ray drive it will have? Dual Layered? Quad Layered? Normal?

Drive Club looked fairly immense but indicates to me that Sony know GT6 is about 4 years away.

I really like the idea of playing a game while the rest of it downloads. I always thought about that when I was downloading a game but thought it wasn't possible.

Sweet Jesus.

Are there anymore links like this in the last 20 odd pages?

Not sold on it right now. Hard to gauge how it will feel in your hands from the pictures though
