Gaming PlayStation 4 (Console)

Right so the cross argument is... technology isn't important, gameplay is. In that case, why not just keep supporting the Wii?

No, of course it's important, otherwise we'd all still be playing Pong.

I just don't get why people want each generation to be three consoles trying to boast the best graphics, analysing every texture and frame rate to see who's "wins". For me it would be pretty boring to have each console playing exactly the same games in exactly the same way as each other.

I can list a fair few games from my youth that are still lightyears better than some of the shite that comes out nowerdays.

e.g. anything by Bullfrog or Westwood (pre-ea of course).

Technology IS important because the reason people won't play these games anymore is because the graphics (which is basically what people mean when they say 'technology' in gaming) just aren't compatible.

However the most important factor in any game is gameplay. I think most people would take a modern game with 5/10 graphics and 10/10 gameplay over a 10/10 graphics 5/10 gameplay.

I have to say, I really wish motion controls would feck off now.

If there was any reason beyond graphics for Nintendo to make the move to the 'next generation' it was the fact the Wii fractured the user-base for developers who just wanted to do a normal controller base game, since not everyone will have a classic controller (or Gamecube one).

What is this bollocks?

You are wasting your time mate, Weaste doesn't actually play many games at all, he would only know about those sorts of companies via google.

He's all about the shiny stuff! Keeps him amused, though not out of trouble.

I'm saying that Nintendo had too many types of wii controller with the wii remote and nunchuck coming as standard, the Motion Plus as an upgrade to that, then the Classic Controller (and some games support Gamecube controller use). If you were developing a game, which controller do you focus on?

Publishers want to reach as broad an audience as possible and I'm sure devs prefer to work with standard controls. At least with the standard wii U the controller has all the buttons required to make ports of standard games easier and with as broad a userbase as possible. If the wii U gets a decent number of users it should see better 3rd party support than the wii did.

Do you want a photo of my Populous Amiga disk?

Funnily enough I was just looking through Molyneax's work about 10 minutes ago for some inspiration for something fun to fill my afternoon with and considered Populous.

The Wii sold well because it was unique, the Wii U doesn't do anything special, the reason for upgrading the Wii to the Wii U is largely non-existent.

3rd party dev's go where the sales are.

Slight problem, the PS4 is about to appear and the Wii U is on the PS3 level.

Do you think the sales of ps4 and the new xbox will be so great that publishers will leave this generation straight away?

I might be completely wrong, but I have a feeling that many of the 3rd party cross platform games will be still making their way onto ps3 and xbox360, possibly even developed for them and upgraded for the new consoles for a couple of years.

They will, but it will be the same as what happened to the PS2, which as an example sold over 50 million units after the PS3 was released, but what did it get?

I like how so much importance is placed on '3rd party devs' when strictly speaking, all we really have nowadays is publishers anyway.

Besides, Nintendo have hardly suffered through the years have they. They are like the Manchester United of gaming, up against the two big boys who merely throw money at the game to try and get on top, but popularity, quality and history will always shine through.

Like that one Weaste? I'll use that when you start up WeasteCaf.

Yeah, the N64 and GameCube were great successes.

You consider them failures? Weirdo.

BTW, that PS4 controller reminds me of this:

In terms of sales, yes, VITA and Wii U level. Nobody is interested in either, even though one is probably the best handheld ever made and the other brings interesting possibilities to the table. I've stated many times before, Wii U offers nothing to get the PS3/XB360 crowd to dump their systems, VITA offers nothing that can't really be done elsewhere for the mainstream market, and we have two little mosters about to be released. PS4 is Godzilla, XB720 is a little puny lizard.

The game cube lost out because of the Playstation, but the N64 is one of the most iconic consoles of all time!

The gamecube was a great console though, it tons of great games and I was very happy with mine. Good graphics for its time as well. Metroid Prime and Wind Waker still hold up.

Weaste do you have a quota or something in terms of posting that Gif. Seems you post it every page regardless of what is being said

Why does Redlambs have a load of anti-ps3 images on stand-by? Reminds me of PJ in the Apple thread.

Well, duhhhhhhhh.

It annoys Lambo to feck! For some reason he hates the most prestigious consumer electronics company on the planet.

Yes, Weaste, of course I do. I own more of their consoles than you. Oh and I love the .gif

He's going to have a problem here, as what we "know" shows the PS4 to be a lot more capable as a gaming machine than the NeXtBox. I honestly can't get anyone I know to talk about XB3 though, which is strange!
