Post-match discussion

So we pretty much agree but i am not sure i understood what is too early.

This i asked "come end of the season, if nothing changed and we still play dire football, should we stick with him for a 3rd year?"

If nothing changed by the end of the season, would you stick with him for a 3rd year?

I think it's about improvement, we need to improve on last season, so if we win nothing and come 4th in the league I'd be open to a new manager at the end of the season. I also think we need to consider the motivation of the players, if we don't improve, and they know LVG is in his last year I'm not sure he's going to have them 110% playing for him in his third year.

I am talking about overall performance not result. Result can be better through a worse performance.
I am one of the positive ones here, I rarely moan and am not going to waste time in numerous Rooney or LvG threads but am just expressing what looked a truly awful performance to me.
Right... Performance in that first 25 mins was less worse than what transpired in this match... Remember we did feck all after going 3-0 down too. People have selective memory here. It's fascinating really.

why do we always do things the hard way at this club. Not doing the obvious, playing players out of position, not giving youth a proper proper chance (Pogba springs to mind).

We seem hellbent on intentionally sabotaging our own fortunes.

So 15 goals in 11 games at this rate we'll finish on about 52 goals. We finished on 62 last year and despite our calamities in defence and numerous injuries I think we were a lot better attack wise even with Falcao falling over every five minutes. It's a sorry state and everyone keeps going back to Moyes nightmare but I only think we are marginally better now plus I also think the league overall is getting worse quality wise each year. I don't want LVG to get the sack but I do look forward to his reign ending. It's just so dire to watch (Today was a new low for me despite picking up a fortunate point) and this is nothing about the "Man United way" it's just we don't seem to play football like any other club foreign and domestically, it's like a one of a kind and in no way resembles the great Barcelona team of a few years back. Certainly not.
Maybe signings will change it but I fear we'd need Messi type players to turn this shit into gold. Quite depressing to be fair but maybe we can break our scoring duck against the might of WBA next week and get back to winning ways.

I think found a new favorite poster. I know i am too easy to please having seen only a couple of your posts. I am usually in the middle in terms how i judge things. I can see what he has done and hope he can do more. I know it is foolish to sack him now but i am not sure how good of an idea it is to give him a 3rd year, if there is no improvement.

The man is an arse. Time to get the phone number of Pep or Carlo, pay LVG up the reminder of his contract and move on....quickly.
They won't come. Not when they see our attacking options and realise they'll be fecked as well.

Now, during the summer ? Sure. Mid season there is no point, we won't win the league but we'll get top 4 and then if things haven't improved we talk about LVG leaving. As much as he bores us we aren't in real danger with him in charge.

Do a deal with them now, then sack LVG at the end of the season. We have great attacking options, sadly midfield are not allowed to pass forward and create chances.

He can't openly admit that No.9 is his best position, because if he does, then the follow up question is, you guessed it, "so should he replace Rooney?"
LVG will then get defensive and refuse to take questions about the elephant in the room.

As Rooney is undroppable, I think its best we play Rooney in defence or on the LW. Put Martial up front. Maybe then, we will be able to score a goal.
Right now, scoring 1 goal is proving almost impossible.

I think a lot of managers could get more out of our current players. It his style that is hurting us. Yes the likes of Rooney are not helping but he picks him every bloody week.

I could be onboard with this if LVG doesn't provide consistency by Jan, even so this idea that LVG is soo bad that the club must act now or forever suffer is fecking retarded. Do people actually believe the club is in grave danger of regressing under him ? Enough to warrant a kneejerk sacking mid season, when we're 4 points off the top ?

That's truly brilliant to here. Will he move to PSG as well, next season?
Depends. If he stops trying in a few weeks and spends the rest of the season moping around like a wet fanny then we'll know the transfer is on.

Not Pep, he needs a specific criteria in his players to play his system, ancelotti needs pace and finishing in our front 4 which we don't have.

Wait till summer and let whoever comes in choose the players they want, lets do it fecking properly rather than living in Football manager mode thinking pep is going to turn rooney into the tiki taka master and thinking that prematurely firing managers who have done enough to justify at least the end of his second term.

I hate this

He never says such things for someone like Rooney for example. If you are going to do something, at least be consistent with all the players.

Still won't call out Rooney. He is going to cause problems in the dressing room.

No point in sacking a manager during the season, but he is starting to piss a lot of fans off. The club needs to have a potential replacement lined up to take over at the end of the season. If I were the Glazers, I'd be doing this now and then making a decision around January.

In this squad there's no players who can score more than 10-15 goal a season (in all competitions).

Absolutely appalling performance. Shit result.

feckin furious with LVG! feckin ATTACK!!!!

We can dominate possession if we are 2 or 3-0 up and then will probably get more goals!!!

Drop Rooney!!!

How can he have a free pass simply because he is "captain"?! He's been awful and still plays 90minutes! Give him the hook after 60/70 minutes or bring him on after 70 minutes to try and win a game! It's just shit and pathetic and not feckin good enough Van Gaal!!!

Is that not an away game?
If you tell our players, "guys, we will be playing WBA soon, you need to score a goal". This may send our players into meltdown as they attempt to contemplate that they are required to actually score a goal.

IMO our main problem is passion. When we are losing/drawing, our players show no urgency and seem fine with the current score line. They keep side/back passing the ball around.
Today, I didnt even see hoofball, despite Fellaini being on the pitch and hoofball is usually the final step of desperation to score a goal.

1 goal in the last 4 games. I actually can't get my head around this. Vardy (who most people say is not good enough to play for MUFC) on his own, has a better scoring rate than our entire team put together. Am I the only one finding this shocking?

Are our players not embarrassed?

For sure I don't want rid of LvG now, in the summer if has not improved on last year I think he should go. Just what I mean is I know certain top managers have their own styles but just in general with the players we have any manager worth their coin should be able to turn a team consisting of the likes of Mata Martial Schweinsteiger and Herrera etc into a attacking force. Van Gaal has turned us into a limp dick useful for nothing and its all due to his philosophy. 15 goals in 11 games, 62 in 38 last year. Even Moyes had us scoring more. The game is not just about possession, yes if we are more cavalier our goal against tally will no doubt increase but I'd rather win 2-1 or 3-2 then watch this shit week in week out.

they didn't need a keeper did they? i mean he was surplus to their requirements.

Just before the game started I finally got around to hearing his pre match press conference. He seems to think just because we fill up the stadium week in and week out it means that we are happy with him. LvG doesn't understand that people are pissed off with the style of play. Its truly shocking and bizarre.

He does everything the wrong way round to me. Get your goals and then keep possession to kill the game off. In cups, put your best team out, get the goals and then take players off.

Exactly. It's because they support Manchester United, not you Louis. You are just an employee.

The result is okay, the performance is not.

I think he already has tbh.

The signs are there. A lot of players not performing to their level, no confidence and no fighting spirit to change the game.

I think he already has tbh.

Imagine being Mata and getting constantly subbed when you know that a player who is worse than you continues to play the full 90 just because he has special privileges.

Mata didn't seem thrilled when he was subbed off.

I hope our players are feeling like mugs but to be fair they will probably blame the manager and vice versa. As for passion you are right this team lacks it big time. Schweinsteiger is a winner and natural leader you can tell he has the respect of all the players already, he is always giving pats on the back and advice prior to kick offs etc but that's about it. I don't blame the newer players and surely if Rooney was not a dogs dinner he'd be showing passion and screaming at players. It's all very flat and the worst part is I think if we go on a run of poor results does this team have the balls to get itself going again. The derby last week epitomised our lack of desire and passion.

As for Vardy I have hated that fecker ever since the 5-3 last season but fair play he is flying right now.

Lol i dont get it either. It's not something we need to rush in to doing surely?

Mata didn't seem thrilled when he was subbed off.

To be fair he didn't do much either. Whether that's partly because of our tactics/position we choose to play him in or his own fault, he has been a passenger these last few matches.

Barely can remember him doing anything of a creative nature. That's highly unacceptable for someone who will always be a defensive liability.

to be frank, thats clearly what is the case. It seems obvious. Herrera had a poor game. I would of moved Mata into his position instead, bring Herrera off, and had Mata behind a central Martial

He has been the fall guy a lot recently. He has said he likes a tight dressing room while he is doing everything to rip it apart.

That's fine, but I don't like this move Wayne around where he can do the least damage. Except the bench or stands of course.

I was looking at the pictures of Rooney's party last weekend. Most of the foreign players were missing. Is there something in that or they had prior engagement. Mata was doing his blog at home an hour after the game.
I wondered about that as well.... believe me we're going to have a big problem in the dressing room - no way are the players going to be happy with this Rooney love in - no way. Another reason LVG needs to bloody grow a pair and get him out of the starting line up asap. He'll fecking destroy our season. And I'm glad the fans shouted 'attack, attack' so he could hear. Hopefully that opens his eyes about what else is expected of him.
I'm not going to go crazy and say feck LVG - it's still pretty early in the season - but he definitely needs to have a rethink on his approach attacking wise, and also the Rooney situation - it's gonna kill us.

Rooney can do a job on the left wing. Or maybe even drop Herrera and have Rooney play in that role behind Martial.

What LVG really needs to do though is just give him a break. Maybe sit him for a game or two. He is not the same energizer bunny of a player he once was. He is 30 years old FFS. He needs to be managed just like BFS and Carrick.
