PL W FA Premier League

Manchester United 1:0 Bournemouth

Post-match discussion

I didn't see the game. I take it we weren't very good?

It's a vital 3 points though. Especially with Liverpool and Arsenal fecking up.

I'm happy to take the win and move on.

Abysmal.

Bournemouth look better coached than Utd, with an actual attacking gameplan and structure. Utd rely on moments from individuals. Jones and Shaw were good, Mctominay had an excellent second half.

Embarrassing how Bournemouth bossed us towards the end like that at Old Trafford.

Away from home it is *maybe* forgivable (even then vs Bournemouth it's shambolic) but at home?!

That was a bag of shite, as per without Pogba. Shaw MOTM.

Didn’t watch this match and not Lukaku’s biggest fan but that’s exactly why we bought him. To net against the weaker teams when we’re playing shite. We could’ve easily did what Arse and Liverpool did today in dropping points against inferior teams - heck, we did against the same opposition last season for the very same reason in that we just couldn’t find the net. I’ll take the three points for now despite the shitfest performance.

Same pattern as last game. No connection between defence to midfield to forward! United has been a one man team now. One more game that no Pogba!

Great result, terrible football.

Defense was good apart from a few moments of bad concentration(from Smalling mostly). Jones and Shaw were fantastic.
McTominay was great, but got tired towards the end. Matic is solid and unsurprising but looks a bit tired. Herrera is a shadow of himself, and in my eyes a liability. Lukaku wasn't great, but he wasn't bad either. He looks exhausted though and could do with a rest. Rashford, apart from a good few moments was pretty neutral. Didn't really impact the game other than one or two attacks. Lingard was pretty decent and we looked far better as a unit with him.

Still, it's a win in a tight list of fixtures and we're without our best player. We'll take what we can get.

Smalling hoofing it unnecessarily and under no pressure. wtf.

confidence builders for Luk and Shaw. onto the next one.

A much needed three points. Poor performance though. Our inability to move the ball fast is maddening.

Every player seems to want three or four touches. So few of our squad have the composure to take a ball and knock it on first time.

You saw how effective it could be when Herrera clipped Rashford’s pass to Mata first time. Opened them up completely. Our players don’t do that enough.

Too much playing it safe.

3 points. is 3 points and it's especially nice when Liverpool and Arsenal both drop 2 points each on the same night.

7 points clear of 4th

Also someone said in the Match Day thread before the game that this Bournemouth side only lost by 1 goal to City, Spurs and Chelsea and those teams according to several on here are all better than us

Was always going to be a dead game. I cleaned up Utd to win under 2.5
It'll take a few games before we clear our heads from last Sunday.
On another note at least Alam McInally can now take off his Bournemouth shirt

3 points, Liverpool and Arsenal dropped points and one more game to go until Pogba is back.

Abysmal.

Yeah they look so fecking good coached that they're 2 points above relegation zone.

Really awful! Fine, Pogba's out but come on now, that's no excuse for our complete lack of control against fecking Bournemouth at home!

Happy to see Lukaku score - cheer up big man, things don't have to be so serious.

Another fairly abject display. We simply aren't that good and when Pogba is out the lack of quality shows. But, we have managed to get some breathing room in the race for a top 4 spot with both Arsenal and Pool dropping points so that can be seen as a positive.

I don’t give a feck if players are champions league cup tied, just bring in the fecking players we needs in January.

Without Pogba we look clueless.

In some ways I felt that was worse than the city game. Confidence took a pounding on the weekend by the looks of it because that was really really bad. Really expected a reaction but tonight says a lot about the mentality of this current crop.

Scrappy, but I don't expect more when Pogba isn't playing. I'll gladly take the 3 points until we get another world class outfield player. Pogba isn't enough, sadly.
Is it normal after three transfer windows that this side stands or falls by the in or exclusion of the one player he bought in his first windw?

They had more shots on target than United at OT(Pathetic). Despite a win this was not a good performance. We need to get at least 1 player in January who can improve our attack, relying too much on Pogba and with him missing United has become really average going forward.

Wow that last 20 minutes or so really got me angry and riled up.

Not an ounce of composure or quality to get the 2nd goal to kill the game. The conditions weren't great but fecking come on. Then on the defensive side Bournemouth had just tons of space and were gliding past our players like they weren't there. Guy jogs past Mata with the ball, Chris Smalling just switches off and his man gets in behind him from a 1-2. The left side of our defense was compromised multiple times. No one looked like they were fecking up for it or put up a fight at all. If Bournemouth would have scored we would have deserved it. Really hope the coaches rip into the players for that finish its just unacceptable

Points not the performance matters the most in mid of December when fixtures are coming thick and fast. Onwards and upwards.

Was always going to be a tough match today after the City result, with Pogba suspended and awful weather. Coming out with a win is all we can ask.

Jones and Shaw were good. Mata too but the lack of control of game without Pogba is worrying. Not bad night overall though with Arse and Pool dropping points.

Great win against a spirited Bournemouth team and a vital win at that. The players needed win more than a performance after having the confidence knocked out of them with the title race all but over.

We weren’t great. Playing in horrendous conditions, albeit the same for both teams. Some positives, though. Shaw played very well. Lukaku scored. Jones was excellent. This time of year results are often ground out. As we can all see from the Arsenal/Liverpool games. That won’t stop an insufferable amount of whining on here, mind you.

Highlights worth watching anyway, if only for an absolute thunder-bastard off the underside of the bar from Rashford. Not often you see a ball kicked that hard

We're very sloppy in transition. I lost count of the number of times the first pass forward missed its target or was played behind the player. Mata tonight was struggling as well, he's looking leggy, which is worrying given that he's barely played recently. Immediately chalked up a win following a defeat though, which is always good. Hopefully we build into another run of wins over the festive period.

Pogba can't come back soon enough. Absolutely clueless without him.

This was supposed to be our statement

Outplayed at HOME by not Barcelona in their pomp but fecking bournemouth.

It's infuriating that we play the MOST shit brand of football in the Top 6 and despite spending half a billion we still rely on 1 single player to uplift our attacking play.

Dire.
