FA W FA Cup Quarter Finals

Manchester United 2:0 Brighton & Hove Albion

Post-match discussion

Cup game, cold conditions, fine, I don't expect flowing football. Quite satisfied with the win even if it doesn't completely make up for the Sevilla loss.

Matic is a machine, should be our POTY considering how many minutes he's played and yet put in reliable performances. Lukaku a close second.

Got the job done. They were a bit dangerous in the 2nd but we made through it.

Wembley here we come.

Matić and Lukaku were immense. McT with another good game too.

Liverpool might be scoring a lot of goals, but they still haven't anything since 2012. And we might be playing the worst football, but we have won 3 trophies since Ferguson has left. Five points above them and still have a chance to win a trophy this season. What would you rather have, good football without trophies or boring football with trophies and better league position?
If you really want Manchester United to be capable of spending as much as we have been so far, the former matters a bit too. Ideally it should be combination of good football and trophies.

Mctominay wasn’t very effective tonight. Started off decent but gave the ball away lots and the 2nd half basically passed him by.

Really starting to like Lukaku, his whole attitude is so good. Just watching him pull Martial away from a potential booking and his general effort to track back give 100%. Great to see, anyone know his goals per appearance rate in all competitions this season?

Boredom Heritage

Very little creativity going forward. Scored 2 good goals from crosses but other than Chris Smalling's post there were no other shots on target that I can recall. I wish they took more chances from outside the box.

1.0

Quite enjoyed that, I think the intent was much better, we moved the ball about quicker and looked more aggressive when winning it back. It wasn't a vintage performance or anything and we still made too many individual mistakes and lacked quality in the final third/with the final ball but I thought it was a fair improvement over recent displays and felt more positive in my mind.

To be honest I hope the club is looking/sounding out candidates.

still a better chance of winning silverware this season than Liverpool, despite Salah's antics.

It's "job done" every time we win. I'm sick of "job done". That was awful.

Horrible, did anyone expect different?

We win because we have better individuals but the lack of structure, idea and ingenuity to our attacking play is painful to watch.

2nd half was dreadful.

We were never going to play well tonight, and I don't think we will for the rest of the season either. The same thing happened last season and it happened at Chelsea in Mourinho's last full season there. The football gets worse and worse as the season goes on. As the games become bigger and more crucial he reverts to his ultra negative system.

It's just about hopefully grinding out enough wins to finish in the top 4 and win a trophy now.

We held them off lads! Two good crosses, two basic headers and we've bundled our way through. Only one decent piece of football from us in the match and that was the little interchange between Mata and Martial, other than it was dire as usual, fortunaterly for us Brighton haven't got any real firepower of note and their top scorer spent 75 minutes on the bench.

Good result. Terrible game from everyone bar goal scorers and Romero.

Best thing was to see our shiny 2 big players watching the full game from bench after their continuous abysmal performance. Couldn't expect any different reaction from SAF if he was the manager currently.

Can't understand how its the best thing, that should be the worst thing, can't be happy to seem them being so abysmal.

Garbage. Reaction my arse.

No doubt there will be some “we won, why are you complaining?” types.

Absolute rubbish. Thought there would be a bit more urgency and a desire to put on a good performance considering how passinate the players supposedly felt after tuesdays woeful effort. Should of known better.

Just another game. Two goals from vanilla crosses, we created absolutely nothing otherwise. Is this really all we have to show for 18 months of 'progress'?

Pleased with the win, the two goals and Romero's clean sheet but dear God this is tumescent stuff.

When it's this boring, I'd prefer the alternative.

Watching our games is torture. No amount of trophies can make up for that.

It's not like it has to be either/or.

Honestly a few more years watching that football I doubt too many people could stay awake long enough to prefer that style of football. Since Fergie left we have been really brutal to watch all to often .

It's 3:15 am here and am awake, will do so after this as well, we are 2nd in the league, a game to play. Ok Jose messed up against Sevilla but we are having a good season. I avoided the caf after our defeat midweek but I shall avoid it until both City and Liverpool are out of the CL. feck's sake, too many negative posts.

The confidence completely sucked out of the players. Even Lingard doesn't look his usual happy self. They were just going through the motions imo.
Really sad actually.
Jose needed to have handled things better. I'm praying we win those 5 games we need to stay in the top four. There wasn't anything to inspire fans from that performance:(

At this point, I'm just excited about our pre-season tour.

Try and win the F.A Cup and in the remaining league games try and find some attacking semblence. Make some additions in the summer, move on the remaining deadwood and start again in August.

I'm a sucker for punishment.

I know I agree it's more important to win but we have had a good couple of weeks results wise bar Seville but it's still tough to watch us at times .

I'm starting to think Manchester United is some sort of dadaist performance art.

There were some real anti-burgeois passages of play being performed tonight, so yes, the players have a real problem with the capitalist system of the modern world.

When everything else fails there's always a back post cross to some tall cnut.

Our attacking play is abysmal. We need Sanchez and Pogba back in form quickly.

So you'd rather see your team play boring football for 4, 5 years or what then win trophies?
